Clarifying a previously asked question about my great-great-grandfather?

April 5th, 2010 6 comments

I had asked this question a few days ago:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap_TSB9DpPUGSXtoVGoyo3_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080111174052AAWAZYi

I have since noted a few mistakes in what I had said.

1) I can’t figure out who he was because I can’t figure out what his last name was. I ca find his wife without a problem because she died later and everyone had her death information.
2) I can’t seem to find anyone on the Ellis Island record site, and I’m not familiar with any research libraries locally (though I’m sure there must be one. I live in Los Angeles. It’s more an issue of being able to get to one that isn’t an hour away).
3) Nobody remembers him because the oldest members of the family were too young when he died to remember (and the eldest had moved to California shortly before the death and remembers very little).

My question is this: how can I find what his last name was with the little information that I have?

Thank you all so much. You have been so helpful already
I know exactly when and where she died, but I have no record of her death, other than the fact that my grandmother wrote it down in a book.

Drop me a note through my profile and I’ll do my best to help you find his name. There are a lot of questions to ask you that are hard to fit on this one screen, but it has to do with where they lived before he moved and what everyone else’s names were. We can narrow it down with census, voter registration, land records, etc. Then we can refine it with marriage, death and birth records, and especially with church records if they were Christian. The good news is that our ancestors never go anywhere. The bad news is that some did a better job and hiding themselves than did others. But as long as he didn’t live between 1800-1868, we should be able to find him pretty quickly.

Getting seriously screwed in child support?

April 3rd, 2010 3 comments

My roommate was divorced from his wife a year and a half ago. She left the state with his two children, without telling him, before the official divorce. So he remained in Pennsylvania and started the divorce all the way in Colorado. The only way he could go to the court hearing, was by phone. The day of the court hearing, their phone lines were shot out by a hunter. So he ‘didn’t appear to court’, so the judge agreed to everything …which was to pay exactly 60 of his net. This leaves him with 300 dollars a month to support himself. She refuses to tell him where exactly she is living, or even a phone number to call the kids. According to the documents he has to pay so much because she is claiming she needs child care. But we know she keeps quitting her job and now just works for Avon…obviously doesn’t need that. If he could prove that, which he sorta can, it would drop from 900-1000 a month to around 530. The problem is, he obviously can’t pay a lawyer to revisit this as he is now well below the poverty line. He would normally make 25,000 a year. Instead he gets 7800.
She doesn’t provide him with any of the documents the law requires her to do, such as address, school and medical records, ect and so forth. Not to mention she doesn’t send him appropriate tax records, as ordered. She has full custody, and he can only visit with 30 days written notice to have SUPERVISED visits. There is no reason for this…I know the both of them very well and she is just being spiteful. He hasn’t seen his kids and it’s been several years since he’s seen them. She’s claiming she works full time, but she doesn’t, he even has the records to prove it.

Now the question, what can one do in this situation? It’s obviously outrageous and should be re-looked at, especially the court orders she is breaking. Is he doomed to starve to death, pay thousands of dollars to children and never see them? Is there someone he can report this too? What can be done?

Contact the agency that he pays child support too, ask if they know of any local contacts that he can utilize at a low cost. Tell him to set up an app’t with a court employee who deals with custody issues. This is ridiculous! If he can contact the courthouse where the hearing was, they might let him reschedule the original hearing if he has proof as to why he was unable to call. There are options out there, he needs to be very pro-active and resourceful. I don’t understand why a father would go years without seeing their child(ren) and not do anything about it.

My job failed to follow through with a change of beneficiary.?

My husband passed away on 1-31-06 from sickle Cell Disease. We would have been married 3 years a week before his death. We both work for the Chicago Transit Authority in Illinois. We have Life Insurance through our company. One year and prior to his death, we went down to the company headquarters (Merchdise Mart) to do a change of beneficiary making each other our beneficiary. We submited the forms and that was it. After his death I found CTA had never made his changes. They made him my beneficiary but did not make me his beneficiary. I was told the only record of beneficiary they had in his folder was his ex-wife, from 1998. My in-laws encourage me to continue to fight this and not give up. The young lady that received the document we submited no longer works for the company. The insurace money is still there. I’ve lost my home and I’m in a real financial bind. Please! Can someone help?
I was given a copy of the change form making him by beneficiary. I was told his folder was completely empty.

see a lawyer. you need professional help.

Felony DUI in california? Whats going to happen to me?

March 8th, 2010 5 comments

I received a felony DUI in california last friday. I destroyed my car, and their car. I had full coverage, and It will be covering everything. They had "Minor injuries". And I was arrested on the spot for a DUI and was charged with a felony, I go to court on tuesday.

Im a 21 year old white male. I have been working full time since I was 17, I have a GREAT job now, and well, I had a clean, perfect life up until last friday. I have never been in trouble before in my life, I have never been arrested or anything of that nature, I have a perfectly clean record. What is going to happen to me? Its a felony, which is worse than a regular DUI. And well. I wont even lie, Im scared to death right now that I might have to go back to jail, Its the worst hellhole I have ever been in in my life, I wont even lie, the entire 24 hours I was in there I was crying like a little girl. Im out on bail right now, which cost me $4500, because it was a $45,000 bail. If I go back, I’ll lose my job. I wont be able to pay my bills, it will destroy my credit, and I will lose my entire life pretty much……. Does anyone know whats going to happen to me when I go to court? If you have any information please tell.

You’re going to probably be found guilty of felony DUI; worst case probably a few days in jail; suspended license, big fines, and maybe lose a job.

To the guy at the bottom; Judges are giving felony DUI drivers weekend jail time as a matter of course in a lot of states and stiuations.

I’d get a good lawyer and hope.

Do you think Obama, US IL State Senator, is doing enough to make change in Chicago?

February 28th, 2010 12 comments

Just yesterday there were 26 gang related shootings in Chicago. Obama has a voting record on this issue and it has been reported that he voted "NO" in Illinois on making gang members elgible for the death penalty if they kill someone to help their gang, and opposed legislation aimed at cracking down on gangs (HB1812, 2001). So, if he can’t or won’t help change Chicago, how will he help/change America? It seems like Chicago people need their leader at a time like this and he is no where to be found. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/21/us/21chicago.html
Some of you think it is the Mayors job – the mayor didn’t vote against legislation on tougher penalties against gang killings; Obama did.

Well – I have a friend who currently is living in Chicago and has reported seeing him getting his hair cut. So I guess Obama is making change in Chicago in terms of his hair.

Can anybody help me find info on my great father in-law, Hermann Hemesath, immigrated to US from Germany?

February 20th, 2010 4 comments

He either owned or worked in a brewery in St Paul, Minnessota. I live in Austria now and have no job and no credit card so I am finding it very difficult to research. I know from the few pictures I have found that he worked in St Paul in 1955. I have only been able to find his New York entrance records. It is very important to my mother in law. Her mother told her he abandoned her but apon the mothers death, she found a box full of letters from him saying how much he loved her and pleading for her to write him. My mother in law lived a horrable life and if I could shed just a little bit of light on her past, I hope it will bring her some closure. I believe he died in 1965 and was born in 1911. Ihope someone can help.

If this is the same man, then I’m afraid he did die in 1965.

Herman Hemesath died in Santa Cruz, California on 28 March 1965. It lists his date of birth as 30 May 1911 in Germany.

Ironically, I found 2 other men with the same name living in Iowa. One was born in 1908 and died in 2000, the other is still living. I have no idea if there was any relationship between them all.

I did find several telephone listings and addresses for people with this last name (which I’ve organized by state for you) at this site: http://www.whitepages.com/10001/log_feature/sort/search/Replay/?search_id=50191321541355727642&sort=state

I Found a dead Mississippi Kite Hawk in my back yard, want to know what I should do with it.?

December 9th, 2009 1 comment

I have already called the DNR In Liberty Co,Ga and THEY where of no help.It seems it is not there job to remove or even record the death of this endangered Bird.Nor are they worried that it might have died from the bird flu or killed by a poacher. So if some one knows what I’m to do with this Kite I would really like to know. And no I will not dump it on the door steps of the DNR.

I would suggest burying it before it starts to smell.

Protected species die of natural causes all the time. There is no need to contact anybody or have anybody record the death. They do not track endangered species by counting each individual animal. They use a method in which they conduct a survey to estimate the population of the species. As such, they really don’t need to be alerted every time one has died or is born. If there is no sign that it was killed deliberately, give the poor thing a little dignity and bury it.
