Felony DUI in california? Whats going to happen to me?

I received a felony DUI in california last friday. I destroyed my car, and their car. I had full coverage, and It will be covering everything. They had "Minor injuries". And I was arrested on the spot for a DUI and was charged with a felony, I go to court on tuesday.

Im a 21 year old white male. I have been working full time since I was 17, I have a GREAT job now, and well, I had a clean, perfect life up until last friday. I have never been in trouble before in my life, I have never been arrested or anything of that nature, I have a perfectly clean record. What is going to happen to me? Its a felony, which is worse than a regular DUI. And well. I wont even lie, Im scared to death right now that I might have to go back to jail, Its the worst hellhole I have ever been in in my life, I wont even lie, the entire 24 hours I was in there I was crying like a little girl. Im out on bail right now, which cost me $4500, because it was a $45,000 bail. If I go back, I’ll lose my job. I wont be able to pay my bills, it will destroy my credit, and I will lose my entire life pretty much……. Does anyone know whats going to happen to me when I go to court? If you have any information please tell.

You’re going to probably be found guilty of felony DUI; worst case probably a few days in jail; suspended license, big fines, and maybe lose a job.

To the guy at the bottom; Judges are giving felony DUI drivers weekend jail time as a matter of course in a lot of states and stiuations.

I’d get a good lawyer and hope.

you’re looking at huge fines, probably a few days in jail, probably court ordered AA and community service. oh and i’m sure a few years of probation.

no offense, i feel NO pity for you. i’ve buried 2 people because of drunk drivers, you deserve more then the courts could ever give you. i hope you learned a lesson.

The booking charge means nothing. The DA will decide what charges to pursue. If they were only "minor injuries" then the charge will be a misdemeanor. If the injuries are "substantial" as that is defined by the law, then the charge will be a felony. In either event you will need a lawyer. If convicted of a felony, prison is automatic. If convicted of a misdemeanor, then the minimum sentence is a couple days in jail that you have already served. The insurance is irrelevant to the criminal charges.

To the above posters… After reading that kids story, seeing he has a job, and has no record, I would think he will get off without jail time. If in fact the judge sentences a hard working taxpayer with no past of criminal behavior to jail for getting in a crash while drunk which no one had serious injuries, then that will explain why the state of california and the entire nations in failing financially.

If jobless crackheads walking down the street smoking a joint gets a mistaminer, and this kid gets a felony. Then holy crap…..

Kid, if this country puts you away, and you lose everything. When you get out go to canada or mexico because this crap hole doesnt deserve people like you, and is about to self implode on its own stupidity.
