Are conservatives disappointed that Republicans have already reneged on THREE promises?

Or will you start rationalizing their backsliding on budget-cutting, bipartisanship and transparency?

House Republicans dial back on promises

By: CNN’s Dana Bash and Deirdre Walsh

Washington (CNN) – Even before House Republicans took control of the chamber Wednesday, there were at least three areas where they appear to be backtracking on promises made: Cutting $100 billion in the first year, allowing opportunities for the minority party to offer amendments on bills, and making public attendance records for committee hearings.

The Republicans ran for office in 2010 on a platform they titled "The Pledge to America," which states they would reduce government spending to 2008 "pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels" and cut "at least $100 billion in the first year alone."

House GOP aides are now backing off that $100 billion figure. They insist they will still cut spending back to 2008 levels, but it won’t add up to $100 billion. They insist the reason is because they made the $100 billion calculation based on the budget that President Obama offered, and that budget was never enacted. Therefore, the government is currently running on lower, 2009 spending levels and that will make the dollar figure of the GOP cuts smaller.

Republican aides confirm the "back of the envelope" number they will now use is about HALF the original estimate – $50-60 billion in cuts.

"House Republicans remain committed to fulfilling their Pledge; this has not changed," said Conor Sweeney, spokesman for the House Budget Committee.

"House Republicans will continue to work to reduce spending for the final six months of this fiscal year – bringing non-security discretionary spending back to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels – yielding taxpayers significant savings and starting a new era of cost cutting in Washington," he said.
Being generous to those in the minority was always an objective of the new majority, as articulated by the incoming GOP Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy back before the election:

"Bills won’t be written in the back of the room, where the bills have to be laid out for 72 hours, where bills actually have an open rule, where people can bring amendments up on the floor, which any freshman congressman that’s sitting there today has never even seen that happen under the rule of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats," McCarthy said on CNN "State of the Union" on October 10, 2010.
BUT – the health care repeal legislation, the first major bill that will move through Congress, will be a closed rule – meaning no one will be able to offer an amendment.

When asked about the this contradiction Tuesday night, Boehner said, "it’s not like we haven’t litigated this for years."

And, finally, the initial rules package that House Republicans will pass Wednesday had a provision to make committee attendance public. But the House GOP conference voted last night to strip that out (a move by Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas). The goal had been transparency – who is at these hearings? But making that public will no longer be a requirement.

The reason? Some GOP lawmakers say they were concerned about getting slammed for missing hearings when they may have extenuating circumstances, like a death in the family.

What is happening to this country?

April 28th, 2011 2 comments

Right now, something is happening in America that, try as they might, the liberal media can’t stop simply by distorting or ignoring it.

I’m talking about the surging opposition to President Obama’s plans to "remake" America (his word) from an independent republic of freedom-loving, self-reliant citizens into a Euro-socialist nanny state.

Call it a backlash. Call it a counter-revolution. Call it a conservative comeback. Call it what you will — but it’s real, it’s massive, and it’s about to boil over into something the liberals can’t deny any longer.

IN THE POLLS showing a sudden and dramatic erosion in President Obama’s approval ratings — and an even steeper, faster decline in support for his neo-socialist policies

ON THE STREETS of mainstream America where "tea party" tax protests and other expressions of populist outrage are spreading like wildfire from town to town, city to city nationwide

IN STATEHOUSES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS where voters are forcing legislators — by popular referendum if necessary — to roll back the tax-and-spend policies that have brought so many states and localities to the brink of bankruptcy

ON THE AIRWAVES where conservative TV and radio personalities such as Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity are soaring to new heights of popularity — while the ratings for liberals like Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman are plummeting

ON THE BESTSELLER LISTS where books like Mark Levin’s " Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto" and "Glenn Beck’s Common Sense" have dominated for months, outselling liberal tomes by hundreds of thousands

AND EVEN, AT LONG LAST, IN CONGRESS where, after years of selling out conservative principles, a small but growing number of Republicans are loudly voicing and voting those principles once again — despite the loud complaints of the liberal media.
What’s driving this extraordinary phenomenon? In a word — outrage.

After trusting Barack Obama’s soothing promises, and the media’s constant reassurances, that once in office he would "transcend" partisan politics, Americans quickly realized they had elected the most radical leftist ever to serve as President of the United States.

They also realized that for all Obama’s talk of "transparency" and "accountability," his administration was creating the conditions for a level of political sleaze, corruption and back-room wheeling-and-dealing far worse than anything Washington has seen in a very long time.

And now that the gap between Obama’s smooth-talking rhetoric and his actual performance has finally become plain to anyone but the most besotted of his admirers, Americans have had enough.
They have had enough of the out-of-control spending on bailouts and "stimulus" that have sent the federal deficit soaring to $1.8 trillion for 2009 alone — and even higher down the road — threatening to bankrupt our nation, destroy our currency, and impoverish our descendents for generations to come

They have had enough of Obama’s crusade to replace private healthcare with a government-run system that will empower federal bureaucrats to make life-and-death decisions about your medical care — and that will put all your private medical records in a government database (don’t worry, they promise never to use them to harm you)

They have had enough of Obama’s proposed tax hikes and tax "surcharges" to pay for all his spending programs that will drive U.S. tax rates higher even than the welfare-state economies of Europe (New Yorkers, for instance, could face a combined federal-state income tax rate of nearly 60 percent)

They have had enough of the appalling rogue’s gallery of crooks, cronies, tax cheats, and political big-spending leftists that Obama has appointed to the highest levels of our government — while firing or abruptly "retiring" official government watchdogs who have blown the whistle on his cronies and their schemes

They have had enough of the outrageous threats to investigate and prosecute Bush-era anti-terrorist agents and officials for the heroic work they did in keeping our country safe

They have had enough of the endless procession of unelected "czars" President Obama has appointed — 32 at last count! — to bring one sector after another of our economy and government under his direct control (come to think of it, why don’t we just call him "Czar Obama"?)

They have had enough, in short, of how President Obama and his allies are rapidly destroying so much of what has made our country prosperous and free — while arrogating to themselves a degree of power that would make Hugo Chavez blush.
And what about you, my friend? Have you had enough? Are you ready to join the swelling ranks of Americans who are determined to put a stop to this madness? Are you ready to add your voice to theirs in demanding an end to this assault on our liberties… an end to this era of fiscal insanity… an end to this government "of the cronies, by the croni

Todays mayhem began in schools classrooms in 1962?

April 25th, 2011 2 comments

It is clearly seen the results of removing prayer and God from the public schools, from a nation of respect, liberty to a nation of crime , fear and violence. Take a read on todays news , so much killing, violent crimes against children, drugs, –america to pray or not to pray in 1988, by David Barton a reseracher a statistical look ,at what happened since .39 million students were ordered to stop praying in public schools. It records from 1962 to 1980,sat scores , divorces , teen pregnancies ,sexually transmitted diseases,, in 1962 violent crime was at a 138 per 100,000inhabitants to 583 per 100,000 inhabitants! In 1962 birth per unmarried women 15 to 19 yrs old ,were 15 % by 1983 it doubled to 28.5%.One can see the rapid escalation of all that is ngative in our world , since prayer was stopped. This is th deadly result of the removal of school prayer, producing the death spiral pervading our towns , no matter the size. In his farewell address ,Washington said "Of all the depositions and habits that leads to political prosperty ,religion and morality are indispensable supports…..and let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion ….reason and experience both forbid us to expect national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle’.And as this country plunges into madness , mayhem dragging the rest of the world , consider what it would be like had that tiny crowd of atheists not prevailed in 1962.

No. Ask any teacher, prayer has no effect on classroom management. However, the minimum wage began losing its value in 1969 and has never reached real dollar value since the 1968 minimum wage. So if parents didn’t have to work 2 and half jobs they’d probably have time to be the parent that helps a child succeed in school.

Long question but important. Please answer. Decisions about the next Presidential White House?

A former Democrat I no longer belong to a "Party" & will never again. I am changing my voters registration. The Person(s) their life/history/political record/present is what will decide my votes.
So many people of all ages amazingly have been saying no more Parties also. I’m stunned how often its being said. People changed Parties even flipped a couple of times (hard but eye opening years)but seem to be saying no parties anymore.
Have you heard a lot of this too?
I want & hope John McCain will run for us as President, Jessie Ventura possible VP. I do think Colin Powell could help a lot in a leading role too.
I think these men are solid Americans. "Parties" mean nothing anymore in truth we need persons of Honor from all walks of life poor blue collar who worked their way up. Washington must become real they are nothing of reality there but also we need people who know the ropes so to speak.
Although just recently becoming familiar with J.Ventura he is impressive.
McCain & Powell both know what the Hell of War is. Screams of men including your own friends won’t stop sometimes their in your head even when you are finally get back home. Heard men say at night when its quite whether awake or asleep they hear them.
McCain was POW he lived that Hell. Our troops & their families NEED & MUST have someone who understands what war is. We all need someone in the White House like that ASAP. McCain has health problems yes so he needs a solid team & if God Forbid he falls ill temporarily. Many may remember when Regan was hurt, hospitalized, & also underwent surgery from the assassination attempt VP Bush took temp. run of the White House. VP Bush also took temporary control again after the terrible head injury Reagan endured falling from the horse & underwent was it 2 brain surgeries? Bush Sr took office temp again.

So a solid team in place to back McCain if need be. A VP who can take on whatever is left a the 4 yrs.
You may ask about why I mention Powell? He lied he even said so & apologized. Apologized admitted to lying about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Yes he lied. Keep in mind though since forever all of us have said if just once a people would tell the actual truth if they did wrong. Take responsibility. We’d say It would be so nice if people did that & if it was a politician we’d all pass out in shock. Well Powell did do just exactly what we said we would actually appreciate. He actually meant it too.
To be honest the rumors that he did not want to lie however he was told basically "accidents happen & people get sick so terrible if it were to happen to your loved ones Cor. Powell"
Powell would know if they were serious he’d been through it before when he once thought of I Remember Powell considered a possible Pres. run after I think after Clinton left office. He received threats a lot of death threats mainly at his family so he decided not worth it. I understand that.
McCain for President if we can get him to run again. Ventura for VP & Powell in one of the other most important roles.
One day it would be nice if more than one party could work together in the White House. Someday?

Two things I’d like to add even know this is so long.
1.Please no Palin if not for her McCain may have made it to the White House. Not a bad lady but running a country is not easy & not for unqualified we’ve seen that.
2. Not all Democrats even Liberals (although it’s the people & records/histories for me NO more Party loyalty) have problems with the lack of gun rights in fact a lot of Dem’s want our gun rights back & left alone in fact the right to carry even concealed. California is such a nightmare! The rules are nuts. Law Enforcement is not to blame. Regular people cannot get permits in CA (or in other states) hardly ever even with a completely clean record but the endless illegal guns leave people helpless.
Most gun crimes are not by legally bought guns or by legal gun owners. Most are all bought illegally.
I heard from one man former military also former FBI 20 years in fact now works as an investigator he has a permit to carry concealed in 40 or 43 states he works in but not CA.
So not all Dem’s are out to ban stuff. Just seems most people think that maybe it helps somebody to know we’re not all like that ok I’m a no party.
Please give your thoughts about how & who you believe can help us create a Great Country.
Thank you so much!!

I would appreciate what you think about these men and what or who would make a difference what should happen??

You have a lot to learn. Don’t get it here. & it would take to long to elaborate on why I think you’re so misguided

First thing? Read:

And go to ALL the party websites. Read ALL the platform statements. Keep trak of what you agree with & don’t…..and take a look at candidates trak records. A lepoard cant change it’s spots, no matter what they say to get elected.

As a Republican do you believe a Democratic administration would deny health care to Republicans?

GOP hints Dems would deny Republicans health care
From Associated Press
August 28, 2009 1:42 PM EDT
WASHINGTON – The Republican national party has mailed a fundraising appeal suggesting Democrats might use an overhaul of the health care system to deny medical treatment to Republicans.

A questionnaire accompanying the appeal says the government could check voting registration records, "prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system."

It asks, "Does this possibility concern you?"

Katie Wright, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said the question was "inartfully worded."

But she said people should worry because government officials would have access to personal financial and medical data.

"The RNC doesn’t try to scare people," said Wright. "We’re just trying to get the facts out on health care. And that’s what we do every day."

Jon Vogel, executive director of the Democratic House campaign organization, called the GOP letter "shameless fear-mongering."

In a fundraising e-mail of his own seeking to raise $100,000 by Aug. 31, Vogel wrote the Republican accusation was "just a preview of the falsehoods, fabrications and outright lies Republicans will be pushing when Congress returns in September."

The allegation is the latest instance in which some critics of the health care effort have made inflammatory unfounded claims – such as conservatives who claimed the legislation would create "death panels" that they said could lead to euthanizing elderly people.

The suggestion that Republicans might not receive care is included in a "Future of American Health Care Survey" containing 13 questions, most of which are critical of the Democratic health care effort. The technique, referred to as a "push poll," is used often in political campaigns by both parties and is designed to spread negative information, not to sample public opinion.

Another question asks, "Do you believe it is justified to ration health care regardless of whether an individual has contributed to the cost of the treatment?"

The survey is accompanied by a two-page letter signed by Michael Steele, chairman of the national Republican party. The letter accuses Democrats of "moving swiftly to bring European-style socialized medicine here," but makes no mention of the possibility that Republicans might be denied coverage.

Wright did not immediately respond when asked who had crafted the wording of the survey questions, and which GOP officials had signed off on it.

The questionnaire was first reported by The Washington Independent, a progressive-leaning nonprofit news and politics Web site based in Washington.

No I do not but however it is an intriguing idea not without merit. Its obvious appeal would be that self-professed sturdy REAL AMERICANS
could put into practice values of self-reliance which they so cherish.Unless these exponents of LIBERTY have not noticed medical care is already rationed by INSURANCE COMPANIES whose only allegiance is to profit realized by denying health care and treatment.

Are there historical errors in the Bible?

April 14th, 2011 15 comments

-The Gospels tell the story of a herd of possessed pigs in the town of Gedara, who run off a cliff and into the sea. Gedara is thirty miles from any sea.

-The Gospel of Mark gets the geography of Israel totally wrong. It mentions travelling from from Tyre by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilea, which would be like travelling from New York to Washington by way of Los Angeles. He mentions a town called Dalmanutha which does not exist.

-When was Jesus born? According to Luke, it was during the reign of the Roman governor Quirinius, during a census ordered by Augustus throughout the whole world.According to both Luke and Matthew it was also during the reign of king Herod "the Great."The problem is that Herod died in 4 B.C.E., and this was fully ten years before Quirinius’ census. Furthermore, during Herod’s reign, no Roman census could have been held in his territory, which included both Judaea and Galilee, the locations of both Bethlehem and Nazareth. Herod would have collected his own taxes, and given tribute to the Romans. Lastly, the existence of a census throughout the whole empire is contrary to the practice of the Romans, who collected taxes province by province, often subcontracting the process to "publicans."

-Though Luke 1:5 dates the birth of Jesus in the "days of Herod, King of Judea," who died in 4 B.C., he wants the journey from Galilee to Bethlehem to have occurred in response to a census called when "Quirinius was governor of Syria." As historians know, "the one and only census conducted while Quirinius was legate in Syria affected only Judaea, not Galilee, and took place in A.D. 6-7, a good ten years after the death of Herod the Great." In his anxiety to relate the Galilean upbringing with the supposed Bethlehem birth, Luke confused his facts. Indeed, Luke’s anxiety has involved him in some real absurdities, like the needless ninety mile journey of a woman in her last days of pregnancy – for it was the Davidic Joseph who supposedly had to be registered in the ancestral village, not the Levitical Mary. Worse yet, Luke has been forced to contrive a universal dislocation for a simple tax registration: who could imagine the efficient Romans requiring millions in the empire to journey scores of hundreds of miles to the villages of millennium-old ancestors merely to sign a tax from! Needless to say, no such event ever happened in the history of the Roman empire, but Micah 5:2 must be fulfilled.

-In the nineteenth century an eminent scholar, Rabbi Wise, searched the records of Pilate’s court, still extant, for evidence of this trial. He found nothing.

-There are many similarities between stories about Jesus and contemporary myths of Pagan godmen such as Mithras, Apollo, Attis, Horus and Osiris-Dionysus, leading to conjectures that the Pagan myths were adopted by some authors of early accounts of Jesus to form a syncretism with Christianity. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus cache version)

-Crucifixion was a slow death. It usually lasted several days. Death followed from exhaustion, inability to respire property as a result of being in an upright position or attacks by wild animals. Why did Jesus, who was a fit and healthy man used to walking the countryside for long distances, die so quickly in only a matter of a few hours?

-Vinegar is often considered to have a stimulating effect, rather similar to smelling salts. Why, in Jesus’s case, did it suddenly lead to his death? (John 19:29)

-The three Synoptic Gospels have Jesus being arrested and condemned by the Sanhedrin on the night of the Passover. This could not be real history because the Sanhedrin, by Judaic law, were forbidden to meet over Passover. The Gospels state that the arrest and trial occurred at night, but the Sanhedrin “were forbidden to meet at night, in private houses, or anywhere outside of the precincts of the temple

-Another historical impossibility in the crucifixion story is the removal of the body of Jesus from the cross. According to Roman law at the time, a crucified man/woman was denied burial. The person was left to the elements, birds, and animals, which completed the humiliation of this form of execution.

Yes, a few. But more often there are completely fabricated pseudohistorical accounts, like most of the history of the Jewish people.

why are women in military not as appreciated as the men by some people?

April 11th, 2011 8 comments

Record Number of Injuries, Fatalities
According to U.S. military records, 33 female soldiers–three in Afghanistan and 30 in Iraq–have been killed since operations started in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003.

In addition, 240 women have sustained combat-related wounds in Iraq and Afghanistan. Left with permanent injuries that have sometimes required amputation, most of these women–like those killed–were struck by bombs that hit transport units or camps with no warning.

"We don’t track the number of women soldiers wounded by U.S. forces in friendly fire," said Army spokesperson Lt. Colonel Bryan Hilferty. "But these accidents don’t happen often."

The death and injury toll for female soldiers in the current conflicts shatters previous records for women serving in positions that are also shared by men. In the Gulf War–the first major conflict where women soldiers served alongside male soldiers–216,000 women were enlisted and 16 were killed. In Iraq and Afghanistan, only 17,000 female soldiers are enlisted. But their deaths account for 33 of the 1,000 estimated fatalities among servicewomen in U.S. history. To date, nearly all of these fatalities have been among female nurses and support staff.

"Having this many female casualties in uniform is certainly new," said Michael O’Hanlon, a military analyst for The Brookings Institution in Washington. "It has made this policy debate more visible and more visceral."

Women More Active in Military
Historians estimate that only 20,000 American women have fought in battle since Margaret Corbin hoisted her petticoats and took charge of a canon after her husband fell in the Revolutionary War.

Since the creation of the Army Nurse Corps in 1901, women have been employed directly by the military. But until recent decades, most have served as nurses and support staff. That started to change in the Korean War during the early 1950s, when the military began accepting women for active duty.

In 1992 the Air Force began allowing female pilots to fly in some combat missions. In 1993 the Navy started allowing women to serve on combat ships. In 1994 the Army dropped a rule prohibiting women from filling positions with a "substantial risk of capture." These changes opened up 90 percent of military jobs to women for the first time.

"From this point onward, women were not only trained to use arms, but could also fire them on the job," said retired Air Force Capt. Barbara Wilson, founder of Military Women Veterans in St. Augustine, Fla.

Today, female soldiers take infantry training alongside their male companions, learning how to fire assault weapons and move under direct and indirect fire. Accounting for 15 percent of all service people and 10 percent of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, women work as engineers, truck drivers, pilots and weapons experts.

Two prohibitions hold female troops back from full parity. They are barred from positions that involve direct combat (such as serving on submarines, in the Special Forces and in infantry, armor and artillery positions). They are also barred from "collocated units" that support combat troops. A woman can serve as a medic, for instance, but not as a medic in a unit that "collocates" or supports a unit on the front line.

Sounds to me like they pay just as important of a role over there and deserve recognition by the public…… Some of them too have paid the ultimate sacrifice in combat….. THANK YOU WOMEN IN THE ARMED SERVICES!!!
But they point out men much more often in everything and at times forget bout the women, not exactly right…..

I appreciate THESE women in the military — THEY’RE SMOKIN HOT (even if they are jew).

can you summerize this? about the war in afghanistan?

KABUL – Roadside bombs — the biggest killer of U.S. soldiers — claimed eight more American lives Tuesday, driving the U.S. death toll to a record level for the third time in four months as President Barack Obama nears a decision on a new strategy for the troubled war.

The homemade bombs, also called improvised explosive devices or IEDs, are responsible for between 70 percent and 80 percent of the casualties among U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan and have become a weapon of "strategic influence," said Lt. Gen. Thomas Metz in Washington.

The attacks Tuesday followed one of the deadliest days for the U.S. military operation in Afghanistan — grim milestones likely to fuel the debate in the United States over whether the conflict is worth the sacrifice.

Obama has nearly finished gathering information on whether to send tens of thousands more American forces to quell the deepening insurgency, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said. A meeting Friday with the Joint Chiefs of Staff will be among the last events in the decision-making process, Gibbs said.

Both attacks Tuesday took place in the southern province of Kandahar, said Capt. Adam Weece, a spokesman for American forces in the south. The region bordering the Pakistan frontier has long been an insurgent stronghold and was the birthplace of the Taliban in the 1990s.

The Americans were patrolling in armored vehicles when a bomb ripped through one of them, killing seven service members and an Afghan civilian, U.S. forces spokesman Lt. Col. Todd Vician said.

The eighth American died in a separate bombing elsewhere in the south, also while patrolling in a military vehicle, Vician said.

The number of effective IED attacks in Afghanistan has grown from 19 in September 2007 to 106 last month.

"It’s a weapon system that the enemy has figured out has strategic impact," said Metz, who leads the U.S. military organization tasked with defeating improvised explosive devices. "It really hampers our ability to execute a counterinsurgency doctrine. And it’s a weapon system that has to be fought, and I don’t think we can back off or shy away from fighting it."

Nine coalition forces were killed and 37 were wounded by IEDs in Afghanistan in September 2007. In September 2009, 37 coalition forces were killed and 285 were wounded by IEDs, according to the figures.

Several other Americans were wounded in the Tuesday blasts. The military said the deaths occurred during "multiple, complex" bomb strikes, but gave no details.

"Complex" attacks usually refer to simultaneous assaults from multiple sides with various weapons — including bombs, machine guns and grenades or rockets.

In Washington, a U.S. defense official said at least one of the attacks was followed by an intense firefight with insurgents after an initial bomb went off. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to release the information.

The casualties bring to 55 the total number of Americans killed in October in Afghanistan. The next highest toll was in August, when 51 U.S. soldiers died and the troubled nation held the first round of its presidential election amid a wave of violence.

By comparison, the deadliest month of the Iraq conflict for U.S. forces was November 2004, when 137 Americans died during a major assault to clear insurgents from the city of Fallujah.

"A loss like this is extremely difficult for the families as well as for those who served alongside these brave service members," said Navy Capt. Jane Campbell, a military spokeswoman. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends who mourn their loss."

The deaths came one day after 11 American soldiers were killed in separate helicopter crashes, marking the biggest loss of American life on a single day in four years.

One chopper went down in western Afghanistan as it left the scene of a gunbattle with insurgents. Seven soldiers were killed along with three Drug Enforcement Administration agents — the agency’s first deaths since it began operations here in 2005. Afghanistan is the world’s largest producer of opium and the trade is a major source of funding for insurgent groups.

Two other U.S. choppers collided while in flight in the south Monday, killing four Americans.

Casualties swelled at the start of the month when eight U.S. soldiers were killed Oct. 3. Several hundred militants had launched a coordinated attack on a pair of remote U.S. outposts in mountainous Nuristan province’s Kamdesh district. U.S. troops pulled out days later as part a new strategy by the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, to shut down difficult-to-defend posts and redirect forces toward larger population areas to protect more civilians.

Also Tuesday, NATO-led forces announced they had recovered the remains of three American military contractors from the wreckage of a U.S. Army reconnaissance plane that crashed two weeks ago in Nuristan.
