ancestry.com question?

My great-grandfather, Ignazio Messina (b. approx. 1895), died in March 15th, 1925 in Michigan. I’ve searched and searched for his death records but ancestry.com has no record even close to his name. Does this happen often? Can anyone else find anything?
Wife: Nardina Dibella (b. approx. 1895)
Children:
Pauline Messina,
Bertha Messina,
and Anthony George Messina (b. 1931)

So…. how is it that Ignazio died in 1925 and….. Anthony George was born in 1931 !!!!!

Could this be them, listed as StepChildren, in the 1930 Michigan census?

The majority of information currently on Ancestry does not have much on Spain or Italy. As more information is digitized and more trees added that will change, but currently I would suggest that you check the death records in Michigan, if you cannot find it on-line write to the Michigan dept of vital statistics provide his name and birth/death dates and where in Michigan he died if possible and indicate it is for genealogical purposes. you should be able to obtain a copy of his death certificate.

Ancestry only has MI death records 1971 to 1996. Earlier records have yet to be scanned, transcribed, indexed and uploaded to the internet. Try USGenWeb site if you know the county he died in and will give you information if they had death certificates in 1925. Are you sure you have the right dates? You have Ignazio died in 1925 yet to added he has children, last one born in 1931.

Also early records like that were mostly hand written and allot of names transcribed from the written paper records into a computer database are transcribed incorrectly or misspelled in original record. They were not so precise in using full names either in old records so he could be listed as I. Messina in death record just by last name. Messina could be written or transcribed as Mesina, Missina, Messena, Massenia, etc.
