Okay so when I was 18 years old(I am 20 now) I used to live by myself in Michigan. I was running out of money so I went to Meijer (almost like Ralphs) and I stole a graphic calculator (lol) and a car ipod wire totaling the amount of more than $300. It was the first time I actually stole something and at the time I was shaking to death. So i got caught because obviously I am not an expert in shoplifting and got in probation for two years. After two years I called my probation officer and they said everything was over and I was clean. I know that the military have access to that record.I have never had a problem with the authorities in my life and I have gotten a few parking tickets and one speeding ticket. I researched the internet about this topic and I am still insecure and scared. Anyone with experience mind telling me if my kind of felony will have a shot for a waiver ?Is my felony that bad?I mean I dont see any problem of my felony in the AF since it is not related to drugs or violence right ? someone please answer me as I am worried to death.
Thank you for taking your time in reading all this.

It’s a low-value theft, and a one-time offense, you *might* be able to garner a waiver, depending on the rest of your profile, your test scores, and the needs of the Nav. You’re not going to get a high-security billet, though, if you do manage a waiver!

I think I read somewhere that if it’s less then 500$ then you have a shot for a waiver.

You will never qualify as a high tech guy, officer or nuke, but there is still career options. Get with a recruiter and see what’s available.

If you have a felony its very VERY unlikely you’ll get in, especially right now because all the the branches have the luxury of being choosy because the military is being overloaded with people.

Air Force is the MOST choosy right now, followed by the Marines. AF has the smartest people in it, and they don’t have room for people who are commit crimes.

Are you sure you have a felony? It sounds like you have a misdemeanor, but even that might DQ you.

Your best bet is Army, but I would talk to a recruiter.

It depends have all your debts been paid is your probation over.If your debts have been paid then you most likely can you have to talk to the recruiter sometimes they offer waivers for some charges but if its a felony drug charge then most likely no they would not but its still possible if not the navy the army is more lenient with there requirements so try that one.

The Army will take you in a heartbeat, though some jobs you might not qualify for, you most definitly will be able to enlist.

are you sure it was a felonny, sounds like a minor misdemenor?
What you have to do first is get all the information of your convinction? Read what article you violated, Call your local recruting ofiice, you don’t have to walk in, just give them a call, and be 1000000% honest. Any medical problems, broken leg, surguries, etc? At meps they run your fingerprints trhough FBI computers to see your record, anything comes up bad, BOOM back home just like that!. You sound like me right before joining, the last thing you want to do is worry trust me dude.
If your record says your clean then you’ll be fine but your recruiter does ask you if you had any speeding tickets as well, so tell him/her also.
The last thing you want to do in joining any branch is going in not revealing your history then getting discharged while in boot with some fradulent enlistment code. Take it easy, if this doesn’t work out, then don’t sweat it military is not for everyone,

I am a high school teacher. I am also a retired senior sgt( Viet Nam Vet) I really think you should talk to a Navy Recruiter. Some crimes are over looked. It is a case by case situation. If they have to have so many cooks, etc, it is a good chance that you might be considered. I really think you need to be face to face with the recruiter. In some cases, he/she might be able to talk to their superior and the matter might be over turned. What do you have to lose? Try. You do not know what the outcome will be until you are faced with the situation.
