where’s an honest website that i can go to to find all public records?

birth cert, death records, back ground checks, adoption records, etc? I’m trying to locate my nationality and where my family originated from and also trying to find my husbands real father as he was adopted. please help..I’m afraid to pay for the sites on here because a lot of them are scams or have no information in them…thanks for all of your answers…

I would recommend http://www.crimcheck.com, they offer exactly what you’re looking for, an extensive public records database… for free! Good luck!

Ancestry.com is no scam and is one of the best ways to research census records, military records, immigration records and BMD records, and to find others who are also researching the same lines.

Genealogy nvolves a HUGE number of different records… and they are not going to be consolidated into any one location (nor will they all be online).

I do reccomend this as one place where you can start learning about the process of finding your ancestry.

Another site is cyndis.. but because she is a list of resources, and since that is all she claims to do, you can get a better idea of the thousands of sources that are out there. Ancestry.com IS an excellent site, which does offer many original records (such as the entire US census). Personally, I strongly suggest that you take a bit of time, knowing which are records, and which are sites that have submitted family trees. Many of those trees are good, but you absolutely need to know that they are NOT all based on good research.
HOW you look for something, is often the key to finding it. For example.. "I need birth records" is very wide open. The answer will depend on who/where/when. "I am looking for the birthdate for John Smith, who died in Alabama in 1973" is completely opposite. Now, a person can direct you to an exact place for the exact info you want.
I’m politically incorrect, in a place where most persons are looking solely to the internet (and one site) for doing genealogy research. My approach is that YOU benefit from as many sites as you might imagine, AND you will find that the internet is the tip of the iceberg.

There is not one really good place to find court records in one place. Ancestry.Com is pretty good but quite pricey. One must go from State to State, from county to county, and start pulling records. Nothings free but sometimes you can go cheap.

Also, I am adopted and had my adoption records opened. I highly recommend doing this. Get a lawyer and start the procedure for opening his adoption records in the county of his adoption finalization. That’s the only way I can think of for your husband to learn his birth family name(s), unless there is a family member who will talk and tell you more info. Someone in the family always knows who was involved.

Good luck! I hope you find all your genealogy answers soon but don’t get in too big a hurry. Remember: Genealogy is a journey, not a destination. ? ?

you cannot find all the info you need online. there are far TOO many records for people – dead and alive.

You really need to go to the various archive and records depositories for each country and state.

Ancestry is a legitimate source of records.

Origins Network is also a legitimate site (if you have british ancestry).

Familysearch.org is also a legitimate site for records – they just dont have all the records posted online yet. But they are posting more records every day. They have BLIIONS of records. This is the Mormon church site and it is FREE.
