November 23rd, 2011 2 comments

Born sidney marshall. In geogia maybe stewart county and worth county around 1860 to 70 I believe one of her children was my great grandmother. Was married to george jackson. Family Tree question!?

November 9th, 2011 5 comments

I’m stuck on my great-great grandfather on my family tree. i have his birth year, his death year, his social security number, and I know he was in world war one. Ohio (his birthplace) didn’t start keeping birth records until 1908 though. is there anyway I can find out the name of his father? He was born in Ohio, but lived & died in Wisconsin. I just want to be able to find his father’s name. I don’t really care about anything else.

His SSN application, $27, should have his father’s name and his mother’s maiden name. His death certificate might have them. His marriage record might have them. The article about his wedding in the local paper’s society pages, on microfilm in the library, may have them.

You could post his name, DOB and the places he was born in and lived in (town, COUNTY, state) here and someone might find him on the census. That isn’t as good as the SSN app, but it is free. It isn’t as good because if he lived with an uncle and called him "Dad" because his parents died when he was young, he might be on the census with relation "son" instead of "nephew".

Can someone help me find my bisabuelos parents names?

My great grandfather was Florencio Bribiesca. He was born in Penjamo, Mexico on October 28 1896. Apparently he came to America in 1917 through Texas. He had a wife whose name I dont know and a son named Antonio. Aparently she died in a car crash in Oklahoma. He lived in Texas for the most part untill the mid 1930s. He worked on the Rail Road. He married my bisabuela Cyrilla Parra in Taylor, Texas in 1929 I believe. (I dont have it right in front of me.) They had several sons: Johnny, Jose, and Gregory. Towards the end of the 1930’s he moved to Finney County, Kansas. He died there on his birthday October 28, 1991. If I can get any help Death Records or Obits I would be very thankful.

This looks like great grandfather in 1930. A bisabuela a grandparent?

The name in the census is scribbled over.

Quebec, Canada Ancestry?

May 27th, 2011 3 comments

I saw one of my old questions and one anwser said i should put information on my Quebec ancestry because it was well researched and see if anyone could find anything. So here it is.
My GGGgrandfather Alfred Blondin was born in Quebec Canada Circa 1840, his brother was Stanislas. Alfred’s son was Joseph Blondin. Joseph Blondin moved to cook county Illinois and appeared on the 1880 census in the U.S. In Alfred’s death record it say’s his father was Jos, probably Joseph and born in Canada.
Thanks!

I believe I found the birth record in the Drouin collection for Quebec vital records, using Ancestry.com (Canadian database.)

Since the record is in French and in a script that is rather hard to read without actually looking at the original paper record, this is what I can translate for you . . .

Religion: Catholique (Catholic)
Place: Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire, St-Hyacinthe (the name of the county), Quebec –
Birth year: 1840
Birth date: may be 24 July; The record is on a page dated "Vingt Cinquieme" (25th) and the month looks like Juillet (July.) Part of the written record is: "né hier soir" (born last evening/night), which would make the birth date 24 July.
Full given name: Narcisse Alfred Désiré Blondin
Father: Joseph Blondin, boulanger (baker – his occupation)
Mother: Hélène Robert (Robert probably was her maiden name. This was legal to do, even though she and Joseph were married. It was the custom in Quebec for a long time.)
Both were members of the parish "de cette paroisse," translates as "of this parish."
Godfather/Sponsor (the word in the document is "le parrain"): Antoine Robert
Godmother/Sponsor (the phrase in the document is "la marraine"): Rose Benoit tante de l’enfant (aunt of the baby)

That’s the best I can do.

If you wish to ask someone look up the actual/real record and send you an image of it, if they can, here is a link to a web page of a genealogy help list for Quebec province:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canghl/pqmar.html
Be sure to read the info in the link: Guidelines For Requesting Help
The person on the list who covers St. Hyacinthe County is listed.

In case you are interested, this is the mailing/street address for the church:
Paroisse (Parish) Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire
2200, rue Girouard Ouest, C.P. 128
Saint-Hyacinthe, Qc, J2S 7B4
Canada

Unsolicited advice . . .

If you will be conducting more Quebec ancestor research, you may wish subscribe to the International databases of Ancestry.com for just 1 month, do "a heck of a lot of research" in one month’s time, and then cancel the monthly subscription. There are some free resources for Canadian research, but research in Quebec online is very "tricky," (including "creative" spellings of surnames and what are called "dit" surnames.) A lot of those databases are just not available for free. The Drouin records are not available for free anywhere, as far as I can tell, unless you cross the Canadian border and use the Canadian databases of Ancestry.com at a Canadian public library. 🙂

Whew! This is probably all more than you want to know.

Where can I find free downloadable death records for pennsylvania 1923?

May 15th, 2011 2 comments

I’m trying to locate my great aunt -Margaret Dougherty – whom I knew nothing about until yesterday when I found a letter from a Mrs. Weston informing my great grandmother that she had died (1923) and was to be buried in the local church, the funeral was to be paid for out of the $300 she had in her bank account. With it I found a letter from margaret dated a year previous, begging her family to take her home so she could die in Ireland. I cannot seem to be able to access any online databases…i know she had been in a hospital

Where should I start?

You don’t say if Dougherty is your aunts birth name or married name.
I have done a search on ancestry.com and the only record I could find was a 1920 census listing a Margaret Dougherty aged 66,born in Ireland and living as a lodger at no.6 Bells Court, possibly flat or room 55. She was single and unemployed and unable to read or write. This was in enumeration district 122.Area5,Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. If this was her and she died in 1923 she would have been about 69/70 (1854–1923)
This seems to have been quite a large boarding house and there were quite a number of other Irish boarders there. If it was her,she may have got someone else to write a letter for her.
Cannot find a death record for her. Hope this helps.
edit: Just found some passenger lists but need a probable birth year to try to match up margaret as there are a number of people with the same name.

Anyone kind enough to search something for me on ancestry.com?

April 28th, 2011 1 comment

Could anyone with an ancestry.com account please help me with my family search? There are 3 people that have records that I need to see to make sure it’s them and to learn more about where my family came from, it would be greatly appreciated!
The first one is 1930 United States Federal Census Record for Stana Radoman, and it says the residence is in St. Louis, Minnesota.
The second person is Milo Radoman. There are 2 records for him-New York Passenger Lists 1820-1957, and Minnesota Death Index 1908-2002.
The last person is Andrija (Andria) Radoman. There’s 1 record for him. 1910 United States Federal Census Record.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, this will help me so much with my search!
Thank you! 🙂

I need some Genealogy help.?

March 21st, 2011 2 comments

With some help from this site I was able to find my Great Grandfather William P Jones in the 1920 Census (thanks Ted Pack). And using free sites recomended from another site I was able to find them in the 1910 Census. And also found a possible death Certificate for him!! But now I am stuck and have a few more questions.

Below is the Death Cetificate I found. Acording to my aunt he lived in Puyallup when he died wich was before she was born so she is not 100% sure but is sure my Grandmother jane died in Puyallup in the 40’s. So this looks like it may be him. I wrote to the Puyallop library and they could not find a Obit for him. I also wrote to the Pierce county library and am awaiting a responce. So my Question is am I on the right track here? Is there another way to verify this record? My hope was that a Obit would contain more info and hopefully confirm that this is my G Grandfather and maybe give some more information as to my family history.

I also have noticed that the ages given in the 1910 and 1920 census do not match up. However in 1910 a Dosha Jones is listed along with a Martha Jones. My aunt verified that Dosha is her aunts name (my great aunt). I will copy the 2 census pages below could these be the same family even though the ages don’t mach up?

I know this is a long winded question. And also that it has multiple questions in it. I just don’t know much as far as how to look stuff up and how to verify things that i do find.

Thanks
Ian

Ages in census records are frequently incorrect. I’d say you have the correct family. Since it says Dosha and Martha were born in Kansas, I would look for the family there in around 1900. Actually you did well to find the information you did. I just wasted 15 minutes with Ancestry’s "great new" search engine and couldn’t get the 1920 census at all.

A few other things I noticed that might help, his parents were from Wales and he and Jane were married in about 1896.

how can i look up death records in michigan 1965 for free?

March 14th, 2011 3 comments

I’m trying to find out information on my grandmother.she was born in michigan and also died in michigan.in 1965.i’m doing a family tree with ancestry.com and i’m stuck.i need some where to look up free vital record.

Yo could try www.findagrave.com
too. The best entries have a copy of the obit, a couple of memories by family members and links to spouses, children and parents. Not all of the entries have them, of course.

If she died in 1965, she was probably born before 1930. She could have been married with 3 kids in 1930. If you post a new question with her name, birth year and children alive before 1930, one of us may look her up on the census for you. There is a 10% chance one of the people living with her family will be an aged parent.

If I need to know where someone is buried in the states where can i find records or help?

March 2nd, 2010 4 comments

I know the name and birth year and death year…im not sure whether they are buried in New York or in New Jersey…but i might visit so i need to know where to pay my respects….how can i find out where some1 is buried, and which cemetary?who would i need to get in contact with?

They might be on www.findagrave.com

http://www.tedpack.org/obit.html has four ways to find an obituary, with links. Obits almost always say where the person is buried.

If you find him on
http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi
you may get the exact death date.

It would be slow and costly to get a death certificate, but you may have to.

If you post what you know, here or in a new post, someone may be able to help. Ancestry has digitized millions of newspaper pages, including obits.

Looking for information on a Dulcinia Brawner.?

February 24th, 2010 1 comment

We’ve done extensive research on our home and have come up against a road block. Dulcinia Brawner owned our property in Pittsburgh, PA from 1837 until her death in 1876. She was born in NC but we cannot find any records on her. She had no children, and was listed in the 1850 census as single, musician. She left her estate to a Nancy Twomey and seven children in Michigan. I find it fascinating that a single woman built our home, and the one next to us during that time, and would love to discover more.
The census, from what I can tell, has her name misspelled (I read the actual deed books when I looked up my home’s history). The predominant Brawner that I’ve found is "Brawner’s Farm" which was significant of a Civil War battle in Manassas, but I’m not sure if she was born a Brawner or if she married into the family. Thanks for searching!

I have just done a very quick search to see if I can find anything without having to get really stuck in, it’s 2:50 am here in the UK. I wonder if she inherited her wealth. Have you any idea how old she was when she died. I will continue to search using ancestry.com. If I find anything at all I will edit my answer.
Is this the same lady do you think! .Although there is no reference as to her employment., and I couldn’t make out the value of her estate it looks like 14:000 which if I’ve read it right is a massive amount for those days.
