Death Records Now

This person died in Oakland, Ca, in 2005. I have date of birth, death and full name and want to find the details of his death (by natural causes) and particularly the location of his ashes. I want to use public records and not a paid service.

"Public" doesn’t mean "free"; it just means "Available". By contrast, most adoption records and the details of some civil suits are "sealed". That means you cannot buy copies no matter what.

Even then the death certificate may not reveal where his ashes are; they may have given them to the family, and the family may have scattered them somewhere illegally.

It is illegal to walk through a wilderness area, for instance, a place the deceased spent many a happy hour backpacking, and scatter his ashes here and there, paying particular attention to patches of lupine. My son has promised to do that for me, and fiddle dee dee to the USFS.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to find someones death record or can someone search it for me ? Someone recently died but the thing is im not sure if that person is really dead because they live in another state (Its my aunts boyfriend) The person who ”died” lies alot so it is very hard to believe 🙁 someone please answer asap thank you!!!!!!

It is way too early for this individual to be showing up in any death index. It takes about a month for the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) to be updated, for example, and, even then, some individuals never show up in an index for one reason or another. We could look for an obituary, but California is a BIG state with a LOT of major newspapers… an impossible search without knowing the general place of death. Also, in some cases, the deceased does not get an obituary or death notice.

You will just have to wait until the next SSDI update. In the meantime, you and your aunt might try learning more about Osvaldo’s alleged place of death. Does he have family members that you can ask?

I am in a dead end situation…I need to get a copy of a death certificate for a person that I bought a home from. Her family is not cooperating wiht me and I need to submit it to my home insurance. Are these records public? I live in Houston, Texas.

~~They are public records. You can go to your state’s website and if allowed order it online, just look for Hall of Records or County Recorders offices.

If they do not allow you to order via the internet, then you can order in person. Just call the county where the deceased was living and order it in person.~~

I had a friend kill himself and I was wondering how much of the information regarding his death is public record, and where and how do I get a hold of the info that is avalible to the public.

Deaths and certificates and are matter of pubic record; much would depend on the pubic interest of the deceased, wherein a reporter might delve into as many specifics as they could to get a good story, or just the cause of death on the certificate itself as listed by the Corner’s office, which would typically indicate "Suicide" and what organ(s) that were damaged that initially or what there examination shows caused the death.

Whatever local entity houses death certificates would be the best start, but it would not be limited to that depending upon public interest.
