Insurers paying out on life insurance, proof of good health forms?

March 14th, 2011 3 comments

After a person with life insurance dies, I imagine that the ins. company has various things in place. Maybe a cursory check of the circumstances, maybe some information as to the cause of death – anything that might trigger a denial of payment for excluded scenarios.

And then probably if some red flags go up, the investigation gets deeper.

However I’m noticing that to pay a little bit of money for some extra term life insurance through my employer (actually through Minnesota Life ), I’m being asked questions that are virtually impossible to answer. Example, every doctor I’ve ever visited in the past 3 years, etc. etc. etc. Stuff that I just don’t keep records of and wouldn’t even come close to being able to answer accurately. So I’m just kind of breezing through it. Example, i put down that in 1/1/2007 I had the flu, even though it might be more like twice and certainly not on 1/1 of any year.

Anyway, the point being…….. (and I have nothing major to hide from them, this is just a question about just "how picky" ins. companies are, in trying to figure out excuses to deny payment.

If I die, are they going to refer to old forms that I filled out like this Proof of Good Health, and then demand – hey – we found a record of this guy going to the doctor once, but he claimed he hadn’t gone in that year, back on his POGH form, so denying payment.

Ya know something crazy like that.

Does anyone have any true insight as to just how bad it is, in terms of ins. companies denying pmt on life ins. policies, based on really minor stuff? I would think this kind of thing would apply to most applicants, since most people really aren’t going to remember or be able to include all this crap in perfect detail. Even tho technically, the form asks for it.

The proof of death, is the official death certificate. The official CAUSE of death, is noted, on that certificate.

Insurance companies don’t try very hard to deny a claim – unless there’s a likelihood of FRAUD on the part of the insured. Policies have a two year "contestable" period, where if you die in that two years, they can investigate the truthfulness and accuracy of what you stated on your life insurance application. If they find that you lied, then they do not pay out the death benefit. For instance, if you lied about being a smoker, or if you "forgot" to mention that you have cancer.

Also during this two year period, suicide is not covered.

If it turns out you died of cancer, and neglected to mention that you’ve had chemo twice a week for the last six months, on your application, there will be a problem.

If you forgot to mention that you had the flu four years ago, not a problem.

Swine Flu is a joke!!!!?

March 22nd, 2010 6 comments

ive been reading articles and this entire thing is rediculous. people are making a huge deal of this "deadly" and "new" disease. Ive googled and looked at articles and people are saying this is so much worse than the bird flu people are already actually dying. I dont think thats the case. To me, Swine flu is a joke. 159 people have died in mexico? yeah sure but if this flu gives you a fever and its hot down there, with no money for doctors and live in packed areas with roads of dirt, then yeah, theyll probly die from the fever and the added heat since the body needs to be a certain temperature in order to survive. The media is playing a big role in this to make everyone perceive that its a big deal. What is it, one death in the united states? oh everyones worried now! it was a baby, and if you were smart, youd know they dont have the best immune systems. From the articles and blogs ive read, people are freaking out about it, and its rediculous because the only thing they know about is whats shown on the news. Heres a fact, around 6000 people alone in the U.S die from a "regular" flu. So whats the big deal with swine flu huh? there is none. The media makes it bigger than it is, people only care when its on the news. Same thing with shark attacks a few years ago. People were making a huge deal about there being so many shark attacks, well turns out it was the lowest recording of shark attacks in a year ever. So everyone stop thinking this is some serious and special influenza. its nothing special. You should still try to be sanitary, cuz no one likes a flu.
ok no vaccines no cure, theres no cure for a regular flu either, go ahead get a flu shot, doesnt mean you arent going to get it.

Yeah, nothing says "I am an idiot who does not have critical thinking skills" better than walking around in a surgical mask in fear of a flu virus.

ALL flu virus’s kill some people.
39000 each year in the U.S. alone.
This particular strain has shown far less severe effects than the standard annual flu strains that we deal with every year.

When you see the brain dead, indoctrinated buffoons worry about this it is not hard to see how we got saddled with our current president.

What happened to the bodies of 1918 Influenza victims?

During some research for family genealogy, I came across a little confusion about the flu epidemic of 1918. My great grandfather was drafted to WWI and reported to Fort Riley, Kansas in sept of 1918, by Oct 15 he was dead. Now no one knows where his body is and there was no death certificate issued. His death just kind of become a common knowledge thing but with no actual proof. Where bodies just disposed of with no record of who had died, like in a big burn ditch? Where could I look to find some hard copy proof? I’ve been to Kansas dept of vitals with no luck either. Thanks in advance!

That is an interesting question. I gave a link that has lots of information regarding the epidemic. It was also postulated that the folks didn’t die of the flu, but the cytokine storm that was invoked by the virus, because generally healthy young adults were among the most that ended up dieing. The very young and very old were spared, mostly because their immune systems were slow to react as opposed to those healthy younger adults. Good luck with your search.

I Found a dead Mississippi Kite Hawk in my back yard, want to know what I should do with it.?

I have already called the DNR In Liberty Co,Ga and THEY where of no help.It seems it is not there job to remove or even record the death of this endangered Bird.Nor are they worried that it might have died from the bird flu or killed by a poacher. So if some one knows what I’m to do with this Kite I would really like to know. And no I will not dump it on the door steps of the DNR.

I would suggest burying it before it starts to smell.

Protected species die of natural causes all the time. There is no need to contact anybody or have anybody record the death. They do not track endangered species by counting each individual animal. They use a method in which they conduct a survey to estimate the population of the species. As such, they really don’t need to be alerted every time one has died or is born. If there is no sign that it was killed deliberately, give the poor thing a little dignity and bury it.
