Five illegal immigrants armed with at least two AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifles were hunting for U.S. Border Patrol agents near a desert watering hole known as Mesquite Seep just north of the Arizona-Mexico border when a firefight erupted and one U.S. agent was killed, records show.

A now-sealed federal grand jury indictmentin the death of Border Patrol agent Brian A. Terrysays the Mexican nationals were “patrolling” the rugged desert area of Peck Canyon at about 11:15 p.m. on Dec. 14 with the intent to “intentionally and forcibly assault” Border Patrol agents.

At least two of the Mexicans carried their assault rifles “at the ready position,” one of several details about the attack showing that Mexican smugglers are becoming more aggressive on the U.S. side of the border.

According to the indictment, the Mexicans were “patrolling the area in single-file formation” a dozen miles northwest of the border town of Nogales and — in the darkness of the Arizona night — opened fire on four Border Patrol agents after the agents identified themselves in Spanish as police officers.

Two AK-47 assault rifles found at the scene came from the failed Fast and Furious operation.

Using thermal binoculars, one of the agents determined that at least two of the Mexicans were carrying rifles, but according to an affidavit in the case by FBI agent Scott Hunter, when the Mexicans did not drop their weapons as ordered, two agents used their shotguns to fire “less than lethal” beanbags at them.

At least one of the Mexicans opened fire and, according to the affidavit, Terry, a 40-year-old former U.S. Marine, was shot in the back. A Border Patrol shooting-incident report said that Terry called out, “I’m hit,” and then fell to the ground, a bullet having pierced his aorta. “I can’t feel my legs,” Terry told one of the agents who cradled him. “I think I’m paralyzed.”

Bleeding profusely, he died at the scene.

After the initial shots, two agents returned fire, hitting Manuel Osorio-Arellanes, 33, in the abdomen and leg. The others fled. The FBI affidavit said Osorio-Arellanes admitted during an interview that all five of the Mexicans were armed.

Peck Canyon is a notorious drug-smuggling corridor.

Osorio-Arellanes initially was charged with illegal entry, but that case was dismissed when the indictment was handed up. It named Osorio-Arellanes on a charge of second-degree murder, but did not identify him as the likely shooter, saying only that Osorio-Arellanes and others whose names were blacked out “did unlawfully kill with malice aforethought United States Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry while Agent Terry was engaged in … his official duties.”

The indictment also noted that Osorio-Arellanes had been convicted in Phoenix in 2006 of felony aggravated assault, had been detained twice in 2010 as an illegal immigrant, and had been returned to Mexico repeatedly.

Bill Brooks, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s acting southwest border field branch chief, referred inquiries to the FBI, which is conducting the investigation. The FBI declined to comment.

The case against Osorio-Arellanes and others involved in the shooting has since been sealed, meaning that neither the public nor the media has access to any evidence, filings, rulings or arguments.

The suspected drunken driver accused of killing a Houston Police officer on Sunday is an illegal immigrant from Mexico who twice tried to lie his way into the United States by claiming to be a U.S. citizen, records show.

Johoan Rodriguez, 26, is accused of driving through police blockages on the 610 North Loop freeway where officers were investigating an accident and striking HPD Officer Kevin Will. Prosecutors said Will, 38, was killed instantly, and his body was dragged along the freeway. Police found a small bag containing of cocaine in Rodriguez’s pocket and preliminary blood tests showed his blood alcohol content was .238 — nearly three times the legal limit, officials said.

When Rodriguez was questioned by police, he seemed disoriented and intoxicated, Harris County Assistant District Attorney Beth Shipley said at Rodriguez’s probable cause hearing.

"He could not tell the officer anything about the crash, and claimed he did not remember being in a crash," Shipley said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Gregory Palmore said today that Rodriguez is an illegal immigrant from Mexico who was deported in 2005 and 2006.

Federal court records show that Rodriguez tried to enter the U.S. through the Brownsville Port of Entry by falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen on Dec. 29, 2005. Just days after he was deported back to Mexico, he tried again to get in, this time through the Hidalgo Port of Entry, records show. He again claimed to be a U.S. citizen, born in Houston, and showed a Texas driver’s license to support his claim, according to records.

Rodriguez is being held without bail on three felony counts of intoxication manslaughter, evading arrest and drug possession. Immigration officials have filed paperwork to detain Rodriguez if he is released from local custody.

Will’s death is the latest in a string of incidents involving illegal immigrants that have resulted in serious injury or death for Houston police officers. Gary Blankinship, president of the Houston Police Officer’s Association, said rank-and-file union members were "outraged" by Will’s death at the hands of an immigrant who had been previously deported.

"Well, it’s dejavu," he said. "…I’m not too sure what the answer is, but it’s certainly disheartening when you keep seeing police officers killed in the line of duty by illegal aliens.“

In September 2006, Houston Police Officer Rodney Johnson was shot and killed by Juan Leonardo Quintero, an illegal immigrant from Mexico he had arrested during a traffic stop. Quintero had been deported once before after charges of indecency with a child and said he shot Johnson because he was "scared" after he was arrested. Quintero was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison.

His death and a personal crusade by his widow, HPD Sgt. Joslyn Johnson, fueled calls for greater local police involvement in immigration enforcement.

"I just wish our government would take the initiative and do something about this," Joslyn Johnson said on Tuesday.

On March 5, 2009, Wilfredo Alfaro, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, shot Houston Police Officer Rick Salter with a Glock pistol as officers broke through the door at his home on East Avenue O. Alfaro was ordered out of the U.S. by an immigration judge in March 2001, returned illegally and was arrested three times before the shooting.

The child was discovered Sunday morning by Dave Marshall, who went to clean the toilet for C.B.’s Portable Restrooms, near Hermiston. Marshall pushed a black plastic wand into the hole beneath the toilet seat to vacuum waste and felt something odd, said C.B. Kreutz, the company’s 62-year-old owner.
"He looked a little bit closer and he saw what he thought was like a doll," Kreutz said. "And of course, it felt kinda heavy. … He looked closer and saw that it had an umbilical cord."
Marshall and a co-worker summoned police.
Araceli Velasquez-Espain was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated murder, which potentially carries the death penalty; murder; first-degree manslaughter; second-degree corpse abuse; and criminal mistreatment. She is being held in the Umatilla County Jail on a federal immigration hold.
"She’s been a seasonal employee for us for some time," said Nina Pyle, the human resources director for Atkinson Staffing Inc., which provides farm labor in Oregon and Washington. In recent weeks, Velasquez-Espain had weeded peas or carrots at a farm near Boardman, she said.
No one at Atkinson was aware Velasquez-Espain was pregnant, and the company would have required a doctor’s note saying she was capable of working in that condition, Pyle said.
Government records show no legal resident of the United States with Velasquez-Espain’s name and date of birth. But she presented a Social Security card when applying for work at Atkinson three years ago, Pyle said.

REGION: Woman acquitted after baby found in toilet

Heppner A Mexican woman has been acquitted of a murder charge after her baby was found dead in a portable toilet near a field where she was working in Eastern Oregon.

The East Oregonian reported that doctors testified 22-year-old Araceli Velasquez-Espain did not realize she was pregnant or had given birth.

The doctors testified about a number of factors that contributed to her unawareness about the pregnancy, including her weight and unusually quick delivery.

An autopsy revealed the baby was alive when he was born last year.

Circuit Judge Jeffrey Wallace also acquitted Velasquez-Espain of all other charges in the case.

A woman is in intense pain during labor, and immediately afterward! The baby would have made a cry or something, and the mother would have had heavy bleeding. Yeah, they literally get away with MURDER!

The Mexican government reported a rise in incidents in which U.S. immigration authorities harmed Mexican migrants. Agents hurt or killed five Mexicans in 2008, 12 in 2009 and 17 this year, according to data from the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

In a statement, the FBI said the El Paso incident began around 6:30 p.m. Monday. A U.S. Border Patrol agent arrived to help colleagues responding to a report of suspected illegal immigrants being smuggled into the USA.

The statement says the agent detained one of the suspects while others ran to the Mexican side of the border and threw rocks at the agent.

"This agent … gave verbal commands to the remaining subjects to stop and retreat," the statement said. "However, the subjects surrounded the agent and continued to throw rocks at him. The agent then fired his service weapon several times, striking one subject who later died."

The Mexican Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday that the use of firearms to "repel attacks with stones represents a disproportionate use of force."

T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, the union representing about 17,000 agents and support staffers, said frequent rock attacks have the "capacity to inflict serious damage, if not death." He said the agent, a seven-year veteran, appears to have acted properly.

Bonner said U.S. records show the Mexican boy had been arrested six times on charges related to human smuggling or illegal entry.

In Mexico, some citizens were outraged. "They’re acting in a very aggressive way against Mexicans and even their own Hispanics," Alejandro López, 27, said Thursday in Mexico City. "The (Border Patrol) is going to do whatever they can to excuse it, but in the end, he was just a kid, and he didn’t deserve to die."

I can understand their frustration and ignorance of the real issue behind this but I am getting tired of their stupidity. I am so tired of the double standards they impose. Mexicans are aggressive with Central American migrants yet they don’t get called out for it. It was unfortunate for that boy to lose his life but he was no saint. War- Withdraw all forces from all countries we are in. Put them at our borders and in our airports to protect us.

Christian Ramirez of American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization that tracks border violence, said the blame lies on both sides of the border. Ramirez said smuggling cartels trying to push their goods into the U.S. are clashing with an ever-expanding collection of law enforcement officers on the U.S. side, leaving illegal immigrants simply looking for work caught in the crossfire.

"Border Patrol responds with more arms, more personnel, and drug cartels respond in kind. It’s a cycle of violence that we need to figure out how to stop," he said.

A total of 260 agents fired their weapons in 213 instances from 2006 to 2010, wounding an additional 37 people, according to a database obtained from Customs and Border Protection through the Freedom of Information Act. The records reflect all Border Patrol encounters around the country, but Customs spokesman Lloyd Easterling said most of those occurred along the U.S.-Mexican border.

Fourteen Border Patrol agents died in the line of duty during that time period, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page, which tracks the death of law enforcement officers. Two died from gunshot wounds, the rest of various causes ranging from heat exhaustion to being intentionally struck by a car.

Jennifer Allen, executive director of the Border Action Network, a Tucson-based civil rights group that helps immigrants, said the numbers show that agents are being reckless when responding to illegal immigrants crossing the border. She said she understands that drug cartels and human smugglers can be violent, but she said agents are approaching any illegal immigrant crossing into the U.S. with a "heavy-handed" approach that leads to so many deaths and injuries.

Hipolito Acosta, who patrolled the border for several federal agencies before retiring in 2005, said the number of immigrants killed or wounded was low considering the dangers and activity levels along the border. He said they encounter so many dangerous situations with smugglers that they must approach every encounter expecting the worse.

"If you look at the narcotics interdictions along the border, if you look at the number of weapons that are found, that’s not a high number," Acosta said.

Allen said she has long complained to Border Patrol officials that they need a more comprehensive training program so agents know how to better distinguish between armed smugglers and people looking to enter the country to live and work.

A 2007 report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office found that the Border Patrol "exhibits attributes of an effective training program." But it found that the ratio of young, inexperienced agents to experienced supervisors was often too high.

Easterling said they have focused on hiring more experienced supervisors and trainers to show the new agents how and when to use deadly force. He said agents are frequently outmanned by smuggling operations.

"We don’t want any of this going on, clearly," he said. "But we realize that these organizations are not giving up without a fight. In defense of themselves, their partners and innocent third parties, our agents will respond."

As far as I’m concerned our Border Patrol isn’t being heavy handed enough. It’s a terrible tragedy for one of our officers to die. We need military troops on the border with orders to shoot to kill. Believe me that would cause the drug, human smugglers to think twice before attempting to cross into the USA. It would also lower the numbers of illegal aliens crossing the desert to sneak into our country. A win/win solution.

Like some shambling undead Thing from a horror movie, the amnesty bill we all thought buried with a stake in its heart has been resurrected. Once again it’s headed to the senate floor to wreak havoc. But this is the kind of summer sequel most people don’t want to see. Neither Democrats nor Republicans in Washington seem to understand — or care — how unhappy the American people are about this bill.
And we are unhappy about it… Many Americans are outraged by the idea of rewarding criminals by allowing them to keep what they took. While hundreds of thousands of people around the world patiently await permission to come to this country, or go home when their visas expire, illegals decided the rules didn’t apply to them. Allowing them to become permanent residents violates our sense of fair play almost as much as it violates our laws. We’re assured that they will be at the "back of the line" for citizenship… but that line is supposed to form on the other side of the border.
We’re unhappy about rewarding criminal behavior. We’re told that these illegals should be honored because they wanted to become Americans so badly that many of them risked death to come here. (We’ll just ignore the fact that money was probably the real motivation for most of them.) But becoming American must include showing some regard for American sovereignty, and American laws. Those who deliberately crossed our borders illegally or overstayed their visas did not show that respect. Many ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS falsify records and documents on a daily basis, supply false Social Security numbers to employers, and lie to obtain drivers’ licenses, credit cards and other documents. Moreover, those hundreds of thousands who marched protesting law enforcement waving mexican flags and holding signs saying "This is our continent not yours" didn’t appear to want to become Americans, did they? Why should we reward them for that?
We don’t like the idea of creating a huge permanent underclass of low-level workers, either. Once granted legal status, all those people doing "jobs Americans won’t do" won’t want to do them either — not at the low wages they’re currently paid. They’ll want better jobs, with better pay. Prices for agricultural products and construction will rise as employers are forced to pay minimum wage, but that’s not the worst effect of a mass legalisation. Competition for available jobs in other areas will rise sharply. Competition for many blue-collar jobs will force wages to dip towards minimum wage level, creating a sharper division between blue-collar and white-collar workers, or lower class and middle class. Unemployment and entitlements will rise, and taxes will follow. Class warfare and envy politics fueled by racial divisions — the staples of Democratic campaigns — will escalate, granting the Democrats a huge vote windfall for many years to come. The fact that so many Republicans (including the President himself) are willing to sign the death warrant of their own party is amazing.
Many people are unhappy about this bill because of the way members of Congress and the President tried to shove it through the Senate quickly, without time for the bill to be amended before debate. The Bill was introduced on Thursday 17 May, and a vote to open debate on the final version was scheduled for Monday 21 June. The bill was not even written in final form until that Sunday, and most Senators hadn’t even seen it by the time they were expected to vote, much less had time to draft amendments. Public outcry pushed back the vote to give Senators time to propose amendments and gauge public opinion. After the move for cloture — an attempt to bring the bill up for a vote — failed, the bill was removed from the floor. But President Bush, when attacking opponents of the bill didn’t work, pushed his supporters in the Senate to bring it back after adding some money for border security — the security that was mandated in a bill last year, and about which nothing much was done.
But it’s still the same terrible bill, which grants a de facto amnesty to millions of criminal trespassers (no matter what its proponents want to call it), allowing them to stay as permanent residents and bring tens of millions of new immigrants into the country. Thanks to Liberal "multiculturalism," many of those people will never integrate into American society. It’s like a home invasion on a massive scale, while the government’s response is to tell us we just have to live with our new housemates. And the border fence that was mandated in the Secure Fence Act of 2006 is still not built, which means that in another decade or so, we’ll have to go through all of this again. Before we decide what to do about the estimated 12-20 million illegal immigrants in this country, we have got to ensure that it’s the last time we have to deal with the problem.
Back in 1986, we were told that we would have real border security, in exchange for a one-time amnesty. Well, the politicians got their one-time amnesty. Now, we want our security.

HANNIBAL, Mo. – A Hannibal police officer was finishing up mundane paperwork on a quiet Saturday morning when Manuel Cazares walked into the station, blood splattered on his hands and shoes.

Cazares put his hands out, crossed them, and told the officer to arrest him.

"I killed two people," he allegedly said.

Details surrounding the allegations are far too common: an abusive relationship, a jilted lover, a sudden attack.

But some in this Mississippi River community of 17,000 best known as Mark Twain’s hometown aren’t just outraged by the violence. They also question why Cazares was in Hannibal at all.

Cazares admitted after his arrest that he is an illegal immigrant from the Mexican state of Michoacan. The 32-year-old had several run-ins with law enforcement before the homicides, but officials had never questioned his legal status.

Now he is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Feb. 28 deaths of his ex-girlfriend, 27-year-old Amanda Thomas, and 25-year-old Carl Patrick Epley.

"I don’t know how this happens," said Tina White-Masengill, Thomas’ sister. "My stepdad told police many times, ‘I don’t even think the guy’s a legal citizen.’"

During his three years in Hannibal, Cazares managed to avoid detection, despite a few traffic violations and a property damage conviction after an arrest for allegedly beating up Thomas and tearing up her home. Thomas had a restraining order against Cazares, who got probation in the property-damage case.

Police say his name wasn’t in a database maintained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Police and Cazares’ boss also say he had authentic-looking identification, including a Social Security card. And police noted that Cazares speaks fluent English.

Cazares’ attorney did not return phone messages seeking comment. Cazares is being held in lieu of $1 million bond.

Hannibal police declined several interview requests from The Associated Press, but said soon after the killing that they had received several angry calls, some with racial overtones.

Days after the killings, rocks were thrown through plate-glass windows at the Mexican restaurant where Cazares worked. The FBI decided against opening a hate-crime investigation after concluding that it was vandalism, not retaliation.

Hundreds of messages related to the case were posted on the Hannibal Courier-Post Web site, with several questioning why authorities hadn’t been able to determine Cazares’ legal status before. One suggested police should conduct raids to seek out other illegal immigrants.

"Of course we have folks who say that’s unconstitutional and racial profiling so we have to ignore the problem until this sort of terrible tragedy takes place," the posting read. The newspaper eventually took down the postings.

At a news conference, police Capt. James Hark told reporters that tracking illegal immigrants is a federal responsibility. He said the department is sympathetic to the victims’ families, "but, in retrospect, there’s nothing in the system that would have prevented this from happening."

ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok said the agency seeks to work closely with local police to uncover illegal immigrants.

"When local law enforcement suspect that they have arrested an illegal alien on criminal charges, we encourage them to forward those suspicions to ICE, where we will make the appropriate determination whether that person is in the country legally or illegally, and whether he is deportable," Rusnok said.

The relationship between Cazares and Thomas had long been rocky, with Thomas seeking restraining orders in 2007 and again early last year. Marion County prosecutor Tom Redington said the first order was dismissed when Thomas failed to appear at a court hearing; the second was dismissed at her request.

Thomas made a third attempt around Thanksgiving and obtained a restraining order that was supposed to keep Cazares away from the small brick duplex where she lived with their 20-month-old son and a 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Yet neighbors said they often saw Cazares in the area.

"We pulled up one night and he drives up the street with his car lights off and just sits there watching her house," said neighbor Charles Thomas, who is not related to the victim.

HANNIBAL, Mo. – A Hannibal police officer was finishing up mundane paperwork on a quiet Saturday morning when Manuel Cazares walked into the station, blood splattered on his hands and shoes.

Cazares put his hands out, crossed them, and told the officer to arrest him.

"I killed two people," he allegedly said.

Details surrounding the allegations are far too common: an abusive relationship, a jilted lover, a sudden attack.

But some in this Mississippi River community of 17,000 best known as Mark Twain’s hometown aren’t just outraged by the violence. They also question why Cazares was in Hannibal at all.

Cazares admitted after his arrest that he is an illegal immigrant from the Mexican state of Michoacan. The 32-year-old had several run-ins with law enforcement before the homicides, but officials had never questioned his legal status.

Now he is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Feb. 28 deaths of his ex-girlfriend, 27-year-old Amanda Thomas, and 25-year-old Carl Patrick Epley.

"I don’t know how this happens," said Tina White-Masengill, Thomas’ sister. "My stepdad told police many times, ‘I don’t even think the guy’s a legal citizen.’"

During his three years in Hannibal, Cazares managed to avoid detection, despite a few traffic violations and a property damage conviction after an arrest for allegedly beating up Thomas and tearing up her home. Thomas had a restraining order against Cazares, who got probation in the property-damage case.

Police say his name wasn’t in a database maintained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Police and Cazares’ boss also say he had authentic-looking identification, including a Social Security card. And police noted that Cazares speaks fluent English.

Cazares’ attorney did not return phone messages seeking comment. Cazares is being held in lieu of $1 million bond.

Hannibal police declined several interview requests from The Associated Press, but said soon after the killing that they had received several angry calls, some with racial overtones.

Days after the killings, rocks were thrown through plate-glass windows at the Mexican restaurant where Cazares worked. The FBI decided against opening a hate-crime investigation after concluding that it was vandalism, not retaliation.

Hundreds of messages related to the case were posted on the Hannibal Courier-Post Web site, with several questioning why authorities hadn’t been able to determine Cazares’ legal status before. One suggested police should conduct raids to seek out other illegal immigrants.

"Of course we have folks who say that’s unconstitutional and racial profiling so we have to ignore the problem until this sort of terrible tragedy takes place," the posting read. The newspaper eventually took down the postings.

At a news conference, police Capt. James Hark told reporters that tracking illegal immigrants is a federal responsibility. He said the department is sympathetic to the victims’ families, "but, in retrospect, there’s nothing in the system that would have prevented this from happening."

ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok said the agency seeks to work closely with local police to uncover illegal immigrants.

"When local law enforcement suspect that they have arrested an illegal alien on criminal charges, we encourage them to forward those suspicions to ICE, where we will make the appropriate determination whether that person is in the country legally or illegally, and whether he is deportable," Rusnok said.

The relationship between Cazares and Thomas had long been rocky, with Thomas seeking restraining orders in 2007 and again early last year. Marion County prosecutor Tom Redington said the first order was dismissed when Thomas failed to appear at a court hearing; the second was dismissed at her request.

Thomas made a third attempt around Thanksgiving and obtained a restraining order that was supposed to keep Cazares away from the small brick duplex where she lived with their 20-month-old son and a 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Yet neighbors said they often saw Cazares in the area.

"We pulled up one night and he drives up the street with his car lights off and just sits there watching her house," said neighbor Charles Thomas, who is not related to the victim.

Fifty-one people — nearly all illegal immigrants — are facing a "life-or-death limbo" after a cash-strapped Atlanta charity hospital decided it must stop providing them free kidney dialysis treatments that were costing the hospital (or rather taxpayers) $50,000 per year.

That’s according to a heart-rending article in Saturday’s New York Times about the “excruciating choices” faced by Atlanta’s Grady hospital upon closing its outpatient dialysis unit. Over the years, the unit has been overrun by illegal immigrants, and it has thus become a major financial drain on the “taxpayer-supported safety-net hospital,” the Times explained in its lengthy article: "The Breaking Point: Hospital Falters as Refuge for Illegal Immigrants."

Who is to blame for this heart breaking situation?

Not surprisingly, the Times blames America’s heartless polices on health care and immigration. Or as the paper explains, the moral dilemma Grady has faced is “a stark reflection of what happens when the country’s inadequate health care system confronts its defective immigration policy.”

Interestingly, though, the Times’ mentions nothing about the responsibility of Mexico’s government toward its own citizens, whom it all but encourages to immigrate illegally to this country. (Most of the illegal immigrants at Grady appear to have been from Mexico.)

Nor is there any suggestion that Mexico’s richest taxpayers, men like Carlos Slim – the world’s richest man and a major Times shareholder) — ought to part with a tiny fraction of their fortunes (Slim’s worth $59 billion) to help with the dialysis treatments of their fellow Mexicans. Couldn’t some of Mexico’s vast oil revenues also help pay for the dialysis treatments?

Grady, for its part, has been in quite a moral quandary over its responsibility to the illegal immigrants. Upon closing its dialysis unit, it has gone onto spend tens of thousands of dollars per patient to pay for their dialysis elsewhere — and to even cover travel expenses to Mexico. However, hospital spokesmen all but acknowledge that at some point in the near future the funds will not be available to pay for dialysis. What’s more, it seems unlikely that these patients will be getting free dialysis back in Mexico.

That Mexico’s own government (and its richest citizens) are apparently unwilling to chip in to provide such care is interesting in one respect. In the past, Mexican officials have been full of outrage when one of their citizens in America has been sentenced to death — following a murder trial in which local authorities failed to notify Mexico’s consular officials that a Mexican citizen was arrested for murder.

In fact, Mexico appears to have used all its resources available — even going to international courts — to obtain justice for these criminals. Yet when it comes to poor Mexicans needing health care, neither Mexico’s government – nor its richest citizens – are anywhere to be found. The Times makes no effort to find them for comment, either.

Could it all be a reflection of Carlo Slim’s influence at the self-described “paper of record”? While an intriguing possibility, these omissions probably have more to do with the particular worldview embraced by the Times — one that blames America for the world’s problems, including a lack of free dialysis clinics for illegal immigrants.http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/11/whose_responsibility_is_the_he.html
