Clarifying a previously asked question about my great-great-grandfather?

April 5th, 2010 6 comments

I had asked this question a few days ago:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap_TSB9DpPUGSXtoVGoyo3_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080111174052AAWAZYi

I have since noted a few mistakes in what I had said.

1) I can’t figure out who he was because I can’t figure out what his last name was. I ca find his wife without a problem because she died later and everyone had her death information.
2) I can’t seem to find anyone on the Ellis Island record site, and I’m not familiar with any research libraries locally (though I’m sure there must be one. I live in Los Angeles. It’s more an issue of being able to get to one that isn’t an hour away).
3) Nobody remembers him because the oldest members of the family were too young when he died to remember (and the eldest had moved to California shortly before the death and remembers very little).

My question is this: how can I find what his last name was with the little information that I have?

Thank you all so much. You have been so helpful already
I know exactly when and where she died, but I have no record of her death, other than the fact that my grandmother wrote it down in a book.

Drop me a note through my profile and I’ll do my best to help you find his name. There are a lot of questions to ask you that are hard to fit on this one screen, but it has to do with where they lived before he moved and what everyone else’s names were. We can narrow it down with census, voter registration, land records, etc. Then we can refine it with marriage, death and birth records, and especially with church records if they were Christian. The good news is that our ancestors never go anywhere. The bad news is that some did a better job and hiding themselves than did others. But as long as he didn’t live between 1800-1868, we should be able to find him pretty quickly.

Why is my life a living hell/?

March 14th, 2010 9 comments

First before answering, I want to assure you that I am completely sane when I make reference to this story. I have seen a lot of answers to my situation, that continuakky indulge upon my mental well being. For the record, with proof, I am a sane individual. There should be NO ANSWERS ABOUT MY SANITY. My goal is to tell as many people as possible of the injustices that happened at the University of Michigan. Here is my story:

My story begins back in September of 2007. I was going to college where I was viewed as a loner or a person that stayed to himself. What happened next, followed harrassment by my dorm room of college kids my own age(Eventually a guard would be put below my window). I left the college, but it was in regards to a desicion in career opportunities not met while at that college. Three months later(January of 2008), I decided to return(stupid) only to find harrassment and stalking becoming ever more commonplace. In campus I was followed around, made fun of and harrassed. Eventually, things that I would do in my apartment, people would know/repeat what would happen there. In fact everytime I would move in my apartment, a car alarm would go off; deployed by the students that stayed in my building. Eventually it got so bad that there was a protest that happened below my apartment. I decided that I would move to another apartment that was offered by student housing. This was worse, being that this place was bugged, and a man inside a vehicle outside my apartment would yell degrading comments everytime I would move in the apartment. Now through this experience comes a question as to how would you know your apartment was bugged? Well, I would here people talk about my apartment on the street, or hear the exact same songs being played in parties that would play in my apartment. Eventually it got so bad that people outside my apartment would yell I going to kill you!!! as well as kick the apartment wall outside my apartment. It was from this point that I decided to talk to the police. When I talked to them nothing got solved except the harassment being more intensified. Men outside my apartment were yelling degrading comments, students were demanding I "talk to someone" due to my loner behavior, and I began to become an outcast on the college’s campus. Eventually being refered as a weirdo, psychopath and other degrading terms. When I decided to leave to go home, men came oustide my dorm room demanded I stay at the college, and began to make death threats. It got so bad that I could see them outside the window making these threats. That is when I decided to call the cops a second time. When the cops came, they said there was no foot prints outside my window, and requested that I go to the hosptial. While there I see the exact same guys that were there outside my window were there in the hospital(same guys that bugged me). Fearing for my life, I told the doctors that I was hearing voices and was put in a hospital. Thinking that everything would be alright, the people in the hospital said, that you should go back to the college and they began wearing the college’s emblems(From one nightmare to the next). Eventually I got out of the hospital and went home to my parent’s house. When I was there I found the wire’s in my basement messed up, and my house, and phone conversations "bugged". When I would go and walk on the street things that happened in my house, people would know about. In fact joke and talk about the ailments that happened in college. On top of that. While driving on the road, a phone company truck, and/or hospital van would show every single day. To top this off, everytime I move in my own house, a car passes by with a person yelling out that you messed up and/or electrical pulses are sent through my house. On top of that they cause havoc in the world. For example, everytime "I would mess up"(as said by people who yell past my house everyday) I would see problems within my community and the world even though it sounds crazy . Because of my hospitalization, if I bring this information up with my parents, they think I going nuts and think a higher dosage of medication will work……but I am not nuts. For crying outloud I faked the illness to escape that havoc. So my life has been a living hell ever since I decided to go back to that college in January. Since that time, my life has been of harrassment, stalking, and my house and phone calls being bugged. It’s as if there is nothing you can do anything about. I want to mention that most of the people in my home town changed their license plates to the license plates of the college I went to. Plus on top of that each neighbor I would wave hi too, guys in pick up trucks would go to their houses and install bugging equipment within their residences. I witnessed this happening. The last thing I want to add is that now everytime I go past a cell phone, a third party participant yells degrading information over the phone. And everyone in my home town considers me a pychopath for leaving the college. To add further woe, when I left the country to visit a relative, these same things would happen there. The only difference was that when I would "mess up"(as said by the drivers), they would honk their horn. For example, if I would get up too fast, or start moving around a car would beep it’s horn. All these events that occured are real though it sounds crazy. My illness was faked, but my experiences real. The college I went to: the University of Michigan. In terms of who is stalking/harassing me/electronic harassment or who bugged my parents house, cars, and my car: possibly a rogue law enforcement agency.
This is factual with evidence.

Hate crimes are never fun. You need to move away ffrom the situation. Staying is not going to help you at all. You know every person from time to time has a "season" of "bad luck". It seems like everything is going wrong and nothing is going to get better. But later on in life, this time will be your greatest moment. From this time, you will learn how strong you are and will be a better person. You will see these type of situations later on in life and know how to prevent them and possib save someone else from it. You grow from your hard times. You can’t really say that you learn a valuable lesson from celebrating all the time. Hang in there. I had a five year run. I know other people who have had longer. Take these life lesson punches and try to learn from them and hang in there. It doesn’t last forever. I know easier said than done but when you have been there, you know. Good luck!

HELP! WORRIED ABOUT MY SON…?

March 10th, 2010 5 comments

Im a little worried about my son. We live in Compton California which is notorious for gang activites and homicides, and I have been suspecting that he is affiliated with a Blood gang. He is friends with a kid whose father worked with Suge Knight (Im assuming you know who that is) back in the 90’s when Death Row Records was big. So this alone has alarmed me. I know my son isnt a bad person and I doubt he would do anything as far as taking someone’s life, but I have noticed something else that alarmed me.

He has always been good in school, particulary on assignments about history. He really enjoys reading and researching about people like Al Capone and people like that. So I know he is into reading history of this sort of thing.

But for the last couple of weeks I have been seeing that he is reading a lot about murderers. Jack the Ripper is someone he reads a lot about. And more recently he has really been reading a lot about the Columbine Massacre.

If my son was going to be involved in any type of criminal activity, Im positive in would be gang activity (not saying I condone it) and I am 100% sure he would never think of doing anything like what he is reading about.

But I am just wondering if living in a city where there is so many murders, multiple murders just about ever week, is that something that is increasing his interest on this type of thing? And could there be any type of connection at all as to why is he reading so much about these things?

Your son is heading for trouble if he is with any gang. I did a google search on average age of gange members. Only approx 13% of gang members are 24 or over. The rest are essentially children. Be aware that this doens’t mean they all grow up and get out of it. The majority of them just don’t live beyond 24.

The best thing you can do is take your son and move far away from the gang he is active in. You will probably need to get some professionals to talk to him so he doesn’t seek out more of the same kind of people to hang with.

One word of caution, he can’t just disengage himself and stay in the same community. It doesn’t work like that. I lived in a small town, My 15 year old son was telling me they were forming a neighborhood gang… As we discussed it further he told me they named themselves WSC. Well I knew that was a major gang and told my son about it. He decided he didn’t want to participate afterall. 3 days later I was having to make funeral arrangements for my son.

Please act as quickly and as safely for your son as possible. This isn’t something to play with.

Felony DUI in california? Whats going to happen to me?

March 8th, 2010 5 comments

I received a felony DUI in california last friday. I destroyed my car, and their car. I had full coverage, and It will be covering everything. They had "Minor injuries". And I was arrested on the spot for a DUI and was charged with a felony, I go to court on tuesday.

Im a 21 year old white male. I have been working full time since I was 17, I have a GREAT job now, and well, I had a clean, perfect life up until last friday. I have never been in trouble before in my life, I have never been arrested or anything of that nature, I have a perfectly clean record. What is going to happen to me? Its a felony, which is worse than a regular DUI. And well. I wont even lie, Im scared to death right now that I might have to go back to jail, Its the worst hellhole I have ever been in in my life, I wont even lie, the entire 24 hours I was in there I was crying like a little girl. Im out on bail right now, which cost me $4500, because it was a $45,000 bail. If I go back, I’ll lose my job. I wont be able to pay my bills, it will destroy my credit, and I will lose my entire life pretty much……. Does anyone know whats going to happen to me when I go to court? If you have any information please tell.

You’re going to probably be found guilty of felony DUI; worst case probably a few days in jail; suspended license, big fines, and maybe lose a job.

To the guy at the bottom; Judges are giving felony DUI drivers weekend jail time as a matter of course in a lot of states and stiuations.

I’d get a good lawyer and hope.

Are death records public?? And if so, is there a website where you can find them?

February 20th, 2010 3 comments

I have spent a lot of time researching how to obtain public records on people and discovered there are essentially two ways to do it.

The Free Way –

You will first need some basic information on the person such as their full name and different counties they have lived in. Once you get this data, check out a list of the court houses in the areas the person has lived. The court houses will never give you any information on the phone so you need to go down and request the information in person.

Hopefully you have selected the correct court house which is storing the records you would like to view (sometimes this can be a crapshoot). Some places will only let you look at the records at the court while others will make a copy for free or for a minor fee.

The Other Way –

For folks who do not have the time to act like a private investigator, for a small fee you can access an online data base of public records which stores information on all citizens in all 50 states. While it’s not free, for the amount of time it can actually save you the service is quite a bargain.

The results can be obtained within minutes. The service also offers a full 60 day guarantee, so if you are unhappy you have two months to get a refund.

The service I have used with the most success is Spyspace – http://spyspace.org/

Simply enter their first and last name and get a free instant preview of the results.

Should Texas Repeal/Review its Death Penalty because of the new wave of people freed due to DNA?

January 20th, 2010 4 comments

Texas killed 78 inmates last year, that is more than one a week. They refused to honor the Supreme Court suggestion on a moratorium on killing the mentally impaired. Most of the other states have either repealed or put a moratorium on the death penalty while they review all cases that hinged on DNA and a record number of people have been freed after being wrongfully convicted. Texas is not actively looking at reviewing cases where DNA or circumstantial evidence could free a inmate. Is this fair? I am not advocating freeing those who are guilty and believe that in most cases Life without the possibilityof parole is sufficient. BUT should we take the chance of killing innoncent people rather than admitting there maybe a mistake? The justice system is not set up to kill the innoncent, but instead protect them.

The death penalty is there for a reason and I support it. I do think that with new evidence-DNA-you should have a right to appeal your sentence. And I do believe that a lot of poor people don’t get the same treatment as those with $ for a good lawyer. On the other hand I have known people that are so evil they do not deserve to live among other humans and when they commit "that" crime they need to know that if they are caught and proven guilty, they are going to die. You don’t do a simple murder and get the death sentence, you have to do something heinous. Look at it from the victim’s viewpoint instead of the criminals. . .it will give you a whole new viewpoint about who really has the rights and who doesn’t.

(Yes or no) Is the University of Michigan complacent in harassment?

THIS IS A FACTUAL EVENT WITH PROOF!

If you feel that the University of Michigan did not do enough you should seek legal advice. If, as a student, or former student you cannot afford an attorney, you should seek out Legal Aid from the county in which you live, which provides pro bono representation for cases which are of merit.

Carlsbad Bicycle Accident Lawyer’s Top Ten Worst Excuses for Causing a Bicycle Accident

January 8th, 2010 No comments

1. Bike lanes are for cars too.

2. Cars pay a lot more in registration and license fees.

3. I wasn’t looking for bikes, I was looking for cars.

4. At least I didn’t hit a pedestrian.

5. Everyone’s always against me.

6. I’m not feeling so well today.

7. I’m in a hurry.

8. My brakes went out.

9. I honked.

10. I’m having a really bad day.

Here are ten actual tips of advice from a bicycle accident lawyer to follow if you have been in an accident. You can also learn more about how to handle a personal injury in Carlsbad, or any city, by calling the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson at any of the numbers which can be found on our website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com  and learning how we can assist you.

Obviously, if you have had an accident, and you are reading all of this advice, it may have been a few hours since the accident. However, if you ever have another accident, or if it’s only been a few hours since you were hurt, here’s what you should do from the start.

First, take a look around and determine if you or anyone, are hurt. If so, taking steps like trying to prevent further injury or loss of blood are the most important thing you can do. Even if some other driver caused you to be injured, it’s just good manners to help the other driver if they are hurt. They may even be so thankful that they admit their fault to you. The worst thing you can do is get angry or start a fight.

Second, make sure everyone is safe from being injured further. If you are in the middle of traffic, and you are dizzy, sit down away from traffic. If your vehicle is a traffic hazard and you have accident warning devices like flares or triangles, put them out on the road to warn other drivers and get away from the car. Let the police an other emergency personnel investigate the scene with the vehicles in place and move them more safely at a later point.

Third, call the police. Accident reports are extremely helpful if the police will do such a report. Let the police know you are injured immediately. Answer the police questions honestly. But if you are dazed or confused, let them know you need medical treatment and answer only what you feel sure about. Remember, your statements can and will be used against you if you admit fault, and it will be too late and too fishy to later say you didn’t know what you were saying at the scene. Police know that your best recollection is immediately after an accident.

Fourth, get the other driver’s information including their names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, make and model of their vehicles, license plate numbers, and their insurance company name and policy number. If there are witnesses, get their names, addresses and telephone numbers as well. If the other driver makes any admissions of fault, write those down as well.

Fifth, if you have a camera on your cell phone or in the car and you aren’t too injured, take some photos of the vehicles and the scene. If you can’t do it right away, do it after you are released from the hospital.

Sixth, if you are hurt, obtain medical treatment. Don’t decline the ambulance or hospital examination to save your insurance company money or to be stoic. Take your valuables out of your car if you can and get checked out at the hospital. If you are not hurt, don’t get treatment you don’t need. However, remember, after an accident, you may feel a rush of adrenaline that causes you to only start feeling symptoms of pain a few hours later. If you have a health plan that requires you to obtain permission first, call them and find out where you are allowed to seek treatment.

Seventh, call a good bicycle accident attorney as soon as you have had your initial treatment, so the lawyer can gather other important evidence and prevent the insurance company from taking advantage of you and obtaining such things as recorded statements that you feel fine, when many of your symptoms have yet to manifest themselves. A good bicycle accident lawyer can save you from making a great deal of mistakes and can shoulder much of the hassle of knowing what to do about car repairs, car rentals, medical treatment, witness statements and the like. If you think you will save money by not having an attorney, think again. A good bicycle accident lawyer can almost always obtain much higher settlements, obtain reductions of medical bills and insurance liens and prevent you from making costly mistakes. Also, most bicycle accident attorneys advance costs of obtaining police reports, medical records and the like and are paid and reimbursed for these costs only out of any settlement.

Eight, you will need to report the accident to your insurance company, but since they will want to take a recorded statement from you, just like any other driver’s insurance company, it’s good advice to retain an attorney first. And if the other driver did not have insurance, remember that it is your own insurance company that will be your adversary. You will also need to report the accident to the Department of Motor Vehicles and your lawyer can give you the form for this.

Ninth, do not agree to settle your claim privately with the person at fault for the accident. This almost never works out to your advantage. Don’t agree not to call the police. Police reports that determine the fault for an accident are golden. Your agreement to not involve the police only affords an opportunity for the other driver to change his story and blame you when the police will no longer investigate the accident.

Tenth, don’t pay a traffic ticket without a fight if you weren’t at fault or agree to accept a small payment for your vehicle repairs without knowing that the amount will in fact cover the cost of all the repairs.
