2Pac ft.Dr. Dre – California Love

April 12th, 2011 No comments

“California Love” is a hip hop song by 2Pac featuring Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman. The song was released as 2Pac’s comeback single upon his release from prison in 1995. A popular remix version of the song appeared on his 1996 double album All Eyez on Me. This is perhaps 2Pac’s best-known song and his most successful, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks (as a Double-A side single with “How Do U Want It”). The song was nominated for a posthumous Grammy Award as a Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (with Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman) in 1997. The song was actually written and performed by Roger Troutman in the Original Version of California Love, Tupac and Dr. Dre made a modern day version of the song.

The original version of the track was not available on any of Shakur’s studio albums, but it can now be found on Shakur’s compilation of Greatest Hits.

The tune was adapted from Joe Cocker’s song “Woman to Woman”, and “California knows how to party” lines listing Los Angeles County neighborhoods are sung by Roger Troutman. The vocals “In the City of Compton” and the other cities and “California knows how to party” is adapted from Ronnie Hudson and the Street People’s “West Coast Poplock”. The remix features sample from the song “Intimate Connection” by Kleeer written by Norman Durham and Woody Cunningham.

“California Love” was Shakur’s only entry on Rolling Stone’s 2004 list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, ranked #346 and #51 on VH1’s countdown of the 100 Greatest songs of the 90s.

2Pac – Wanted Dead or Alive – (OG) – (feat. Snoop Dogg)

May 5th, 2010 10 comments

2Pac – ‘Wanted Dead or Alive – (OG)
Featuring: Snoop Dogg
Written by: 2Pac & Snoop Dogg
Song Producer: Daz Dillinger
Album: “Gridlock’d” Soundtrack
Date of Release: 1/28/97
Record Label: Death Row / Interscope
Genre: West Coast Rap
“Wanted Dead or Alive” is a collaboration song by Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, & Daz Dillinger, released as a single from the Gridlock’d (Original Soundtrack). It was made into a video. The video showed the cops trying to catch Snoop Dogg and clips of the deceased rapper Tupac Shakur. The storyline is similar to “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted”. The video is directed by Scott Kalvert.

Gridlock’d Facts:
Gridlock’d is a 1997 film starring Tupac Shakur, Tim Roth, and Thandie Newton. It was the directorial debut of Vondie Curtis-Hall, who also wrote the story and screenplay. The film’s opening was relatively low, despite critical acclaim for its powerful and gritty substance. Its opening weekend netted $3,603,049 and it finished finally at only $5.5 million. The film paid tribute to star Tupac Shakur who had been murdered several months before the film’s release.

Plot:
Set in Detroit, Heroin addicts Spoon (Tupac Shakur) and Stretch (Tim Roth) decide to kick their habit after their best friend and bandmate, Cookie (Thandie Newton), overdoses on her first hit. Throughout a disastrous day, the two addicts dodge police and local criminals while struggling with an apathetic government bureaucracy that bars their entrance into a rehabilitation program.

— In her review for The New York Times, Janet Maslin praised Shakur’s performance: “He played this part with an appealing mix of presence, confidence and humor”. Desson Howe, in his review for the Washington Post, wrote, “Shakur and Roth, who seem born for these roles, are allowed to take charge – and have fun doing it”. USA Today gave the film three out of four stars and felt that Hall had not “latched onto a particularly original notion of city blight. But he knows how to mine the humor in such desperation”. Entertainment Weekly gave the film “B” rating and Owen Gleiberman wrote, “Gridlock’d doesn’t have the imaginative vision of a movie like Trainspotting, yet it’s more literally true to the haphazard torpor of the junkie life than anything we’ve seen on screen since Drugstore Cowboy … Curtis Hall has caught the bottom-feeder enervation of heroin addiction”.[ —

Could it be my destiny to be lonely?
And checkin for these hoochies that be on me cause they phony
But you was different — I got no need to be suspicious
Cause I can tell — my life with you would be delicious
The way you lick your lips and shake your hips got me addicted
I’m sittin here hoping that we can find some way to kick it
Even though I got your digits gotta struggle to resist it
Slowly advance when its my chance not to miss it
You blow me kisses

Ehtart ashky wala ahky wala abky men farhety
Men shoay leek ya habeebi bady tekoon fi youm men esmety(x2)

Ya ahla donya eshtaha fey el kon be halo
Fey ainaik layaly asheataha awal ma malo(x2)

Kelmet ya omry oltaha lahzet loana
Marafsh alby lama shafak aih garalo

I see you remiscin and I hope you listenin
In the position to pressure and offer competition
Me and you — was meant to be my destiny, no longer lonely
Cause now it’s on for you and me, all I can see
A happy home, that’s my fantasy
But my reality is problems with your man and me
What can I do? Don’t wanna lose you to the sucker
Cause if he touch ya, I got some drama for that busta
Don’t wanna rush ya

Tol omry khayfa aheb waeshaq zay kol enas
Leany mamloksh fi hayati ghair habet el ehsas(x2)

Shoftak malakt kol shee feya be sawany
alemt alby ezay yeheb w yaaraf el ekhlas

Ehtart ashky wala ahky wala abky men farhety
Men shoay leek ya habeebi bady tekoon fi youm men esmety (x2)

You ain’t got to go through all this drama and this stress
with this old half a man, yaknowhat I’m sayin?
I ain’t tryin to put you in a position
where you gotta give up your lifestyle for everything
you need but now.. he ain’t even takin care of you
He beatin on you and shit; look how you look
She wanna be with that nigga, ya know what I’m sayin?
Shake that sucker to the left
Let me show you what this life is really about
YaknowhatI’msayin? You need to be on first class
Need to be goin to Hawaii, seein the world
Seein what this world got to offer you
Not goin to, yaknowhatI’msayin?
The emergency room, gettin stitches
cause this nigga done got jealous
Don’t cry, it’s all good

Mopreme Shakur PTBTV Interview Pt. 4 (HYPHY baby LIL WAYNE bay EAST & WEST COAST WAR?)

April 1st, 2010 20 comments

PART 4 of 4. PTBTV aka Pushin’ The Bay EXCLUSIVE! In this exclusive / raw video, Emcee T speaks with Mopreme Shakur of THUG LIFE & Ray Luv. Emcee T asks the tough questions… YOU get to hear/see ’em!!!

Mopreme Shakur, (born 1969 in New York as Maurice Harding) originally known as Wycked, is a West Coast rapper and was born in South Jamaica, Queens, New York. As a child Mopreme lived with his father, Mutulu Shakur, his fathers wife, Afeni Shakur and his younger brother Tupac Shakur.

He is the older step-brother of slain rapper Tupac Shakur and son of Mutulu Shakur. In 1982, while Maurice was still a pre-teen, his father Mutulu became a fugitive wanted by the FBI, charged in part with having aided Maurice’s aunt, Assata Shakur, to escape from prison in New Jersey, where she had been incarcerated for the murder and wounding of two state troopers. As a result, Mutulu was imprisoned in 1986 after spending four years at large on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

His talent and love for music began to manifest itself in early childhood, where he could be found rapping on the streets of Queens. Mopreme knew early on in his life that he wanted to pursue a career in the music industry.

As a young adult, Mopreme served in the military for a brief period before moving to Oakland, CA. It was in Oakland that Mopreme hooked up with Tony! Toni! Tone! and recorded the hit song “Feels Good” off their multi-platinum album The Revival.

Mopreme’s first appearance on wax, under the alias Mocedes, was on Tony Toni Toné’s hit single “Feel’s Good” in the year 1990. His first collaboration with his brother was on the single and video “Papaz Song”, from the 1993 album Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. He was an original member of both his Thug Life group, as well as a premier member of Outlawz. Mopreme dropped out of the group, but contrary to rumors, was never signed to Death Row Records; he also claimed that Suge Knight prevented him from seeing his brother.

In 1993, Mopreme joined his brother Tupac on the single “Papaz Song”, off Tupac’s second album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. It was also around this time the Thug Code was developed by Tupac, Mutulu and Mopreme. The Thug Code ultimately led to the development of the group Thug Life.

The group consisted of Tupac, Mopreme, Big Syke, Macadoshis and Rated R. In 1994, they released the album, Thug Life Volume 1. Mopreme was featured on 6 of the 10 songs including the hits “Bury Me A G” and “Cradle To The Grave”.

Next on Mopreme’s rap resume was an appearance on Tupac’s multi-platinum All Eyez On Me album. Mopreme showcased his lyrical skills on the song “When We Ride”. Mopreme continued to perform and record with his brother until Tupac’s untimely death in 1996.

Mopreme has recently dropped the mixtape “Assassin & Mopreme Shakur Present: Black & Brown Pride”.

Mopreme was recently featured on the soundtrack for the feature film “Intoxicating” starring Kirk Harris, John Savage and Eric Roberts.

In June 2008, Mopreme revealed that he had signed on as a consulting producer for the upcoming episode of BET’s series, “American Gangster,” titled “Mutulu Shakur and The Republic of New Afrika.” The show will feature his incarcerated father Dr. Mutulu Shakur, an important leader the Republic of New Afrika in the 60s and 70s.
