Are peoples wills public records in all states?

April 22nd, 2011 1 comment

I am not sure if anyone knows the answer to this. My father died in the state of California in 2004, and my sister and live in Pennsylvania. He hadn’t been in contact with us for years, before he got sick very quickly and died. My sister and I had no relationship with the controlling woman he was married to. Any questions asked her were not answered, and we let it go. We have since learned the wife has dementia. Not sure where she is. My sister and I are trying to find out if my father had a will or whats happening to the property out there? We have heard just recently through friends of my fathers out there, that the property is deteriorating and no ones been around the house for awhile. I would like to know what is public record out there and can I find it online? Such as property tax. if the house is paid off. Up for sheriff sale? Or if he had a will. Our father was cremated and my sister I know his ashes are there somewhere in the house. If nothing else we would like to at least get his ashes, and bring them home, but before we would go out there, we want to make sure the house isn’t getting sold for back taxes. We don’t know who his lawyer was and we are basically stuck trying to find out information. Any help someone could give me as to guide me in the right direction would be appreciated. I was able to at least get his death certificate, but that’s about all.

If your father had a will and it was probated then it is public record. Call the probate court in the county in which your dad lives and ask if there was an estate opened under his name. Also, if you have the address of the property you can get a title company to check for a nominal fee to see if the property is in your dad’s name still. If it is, and there has been no estate opened, and you cannot find a will, then his next of kin are entitled to the property.

California Hardcore roundup?

What I have here is a short list of some of my favorite hardcore bands from my home-state of California. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, nor should it be taken as an accurate depiction of the scene as a whole.

Killing the Dream:
Killing the Dream is a melodic hardcore band from Sacramento who are known for their breed of emotive, intense hardcore music. Sporting album artwork from Converge’s Jacob Bannon, and being signed to Bannon’s label, Deathwish inc., I think that despite differences in style, there is a lot of crossover appeal between the bands.

Loma Prieta:
Featuring members of Punch, this San Francisco trio continues the tradition of chaotic, scream-laden music, but this time with a more melodic approach, and more mellow instrumental breaks, conjuring Orchid, or the original 90’s emo bands.

Nails
Fast, heavy, intense. A recent arrival on the Southern California scene, Nails are very quickly gathering a very strong following based on their no messing-around, hard hitting sound with a tone that screams "grindcore" and an old-school vibe. A year after the release of their 14-minute debut "full-length" album, ‘Unsilent Death’, and they are already signed to Southern Lord Records, one of the leading labels for doom and sludge, who have recently expanded more into hardcore "Entombed-alikes" with signings of bands like Black Breath or Trap Them.

Touché Amoré
Another newer band on the Socal scene, Touché Amoré have one full-length album, and a handful of 7" releases: splits with Make Do and Mend and La Dispute, a self-titled EP, and a live studio recording that never saw it’s intended airplay. Having toured with the likes of Converge and Envy, and recently signing with Deathwish, they are quickly making a name for themselves, and their breed of angsty old-school hardcore with a decidedly modern twist.

Sorry, I got a little caught up in the writing, and forgot the original question.

Of these bands, which is your favorite?

What are your other favorite hardcore or non-hardcore bands from California?

where’s the question. this isn’t a promotional site. do you mean newer bands only or can we list old school bands as well? and who gave us thumbs down for trying to clarify what the question was? some people are seriously juvenile.

Where can I find information about dead relatives?

July 29th, 2010 3 comments

My dad committed suicide almost 12 years ago and I wanted to know if there is a website or place where I can get information about his death. Does the US and/or state of California even record everyone’s death???

Thanks for your help =)

In the United States, deaths are recorded by death certificates.

There are many websites online where you can search legal documents for a price.
