The Grand Rapids LipDub (NEW WORLD RECORD)

The debut project by STATUS CREATIVE

The international sensation that Roger Ebert calls “The Greatest Music Video Ever Made.” |

“The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a “dying city.” We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean’s “American Pie,” a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope.” – Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer

Issues With Future Mother-in-law and Home Situation?

September 9th, 2011 5 comments

My future mother-in-law has proven herself to be a serious problem in the past two months. She currently lives with my fiance and myself and has claimed she will be selling a few electronics we own (including a relatively large TV, an Xbox 360, and possibly our computer) using false bills of sale she obtained from my fiance’s sister, a known thief (she’s headed to court on theft charges next week). His sister’s boyfriend is a local police officer, which is the only reason why I’m worried about these "bills of sale" actually being verified.. Somehow. I’m assuming her background will work against her anyway, though.

The TV was obtained free of charge from a man/woman (the story always changes) who was going to throw it out and was my fiance’s birthday gift last year. His mother now claims she never gave it to him and is hers, and that she can "ask (insert name she thinks she "bought" the TV from here) on the phone!" The Xbox 360 I am willing to part with, as it’s difficult to determine who is the legal "owner" of it – my fiance’s friend sold it to HIM, but I’m not sure whose money he used to purchase it..

We currently live in a tiny home that his grandmother rents out and, for some reason, she will not do anything about his mother or his sister. Along with claiming everything is hers, his mother frequently complains that nobody likes her and screams at us that we hate her when we ask her to do something for herself, lives on the computer (she’s a FarmVille addict – to the extreme), insists that she never has money yet supports her smokes-like-a-chimney cigarette habit (her "only income" is food stamps!!), and blames my fiance for "everything that is wrong in her life." She also tells us to do absolutely everything for her, and my fiance complies.. Because anything else would start World War III. She is allowed to stay regardless of her behavior because she is the sole owner of a car that shouldn’t even be running – the only way for us to get to work (my fiance and I are currently at the "we have interviews" stage, however – his grandmother is currently the only one who is working). She is also chummy with the landlord, which I’m guessing is another reason why nothing is being done about her.

My fiance’s sister is a lost cause. She steals all the time, including from us. She finally got caught by an ex-boyfriend’s grandmother and has a blemish on her record. She used to beat me on a regular basis to "toughen me up" – my fiance lives in the south, and I am from Michigan. At first I simply went with it, but the "beating" escalated. A week ago, she punched me in the back and side of the head as hard as she could for saying her insults were getting repetitive, then hopped on Facebook and the phone to gab to her friends about how I deserved to die and saying I was "talking s*** about the family," using it as her excuse to her friends to have punched me. I was going to file a report, but my fiance told me they wouldn’t do anything but record that it happened. I decided it wasn’t worth it, and saved the Facebook messages just in case as well as reporting the messages to Facebook as hate speech. As far as I know, Facebook deleted the messages.

Long story short: My fiance’s mother and sister are insane, nobody will do anything about it, and I desperately want to know what my options are. I have a small amount of cash that may be enough to rent out a room from a family friend for a month, but that’s it (if it’s even agreed to). I want to ask one family friend in particular for help, but I feel it’s too much to be asking for myself AND my fiance to have a place to stay. My fiance also insists that he refuses to go to my home state because he despises my family and thinks his family will let his dogs starve to death. He’s also worried about his grandmother’s health..

Sorry about the long description..

Any help is sincerely appreciated!!
I’ve been able to convince my fiance on a few occasions to get away from their madness and go to Michigan with me, but I haven’t gathered up the courage to actually ASK someone about it. Is my situation bad enough to be able to ask without feeling like a mooch..?

I recommend that you re-read your question to yourself, and knowing all of the other background that goes along with it, ask yourself if this is really what you want for a future life?
The only thing that might have some value here would be the love, support, and commitment from your fiance. But he clearly doesn’t have your interests at heart. A man who truly loves and respects you, will also love and respect all who love you, but this guy despises your family.

I can only guess that you are holding on to some faint hope that things will somehow get better. That your fiance will one day treat you with the love and respect you deserve, and his family will suddenly stop their criminal ways. But you don’t control that.

The only thing you control is you, where you choose to live, and who you choose to spend the rest of your life with. If your fiance’s life doesn’t mesh with what you believe to be right for you, then he isn’t a good choice for a husband, or any kind of a life partner for that matter.

This man has more concern for his dogs, and his grandmother than he does for you.

I hope from that you can figure out a way to permanently separate yourself from all of this trouble. You deserve better.

Marriage records in Michigan.?

August 15th, 2011 5 comments

So I located the marriage record on-line for my great grandparents, born in the mid 1800s.The information about their parents names and where they came from, wasn`t there. So, I need to either travel to the town where the record is,or send them $15.00 by mail. Will I get a copy of the actual record?I need brakes on my car and with gas prices so high,I thought I would write for it,but then I worry,I will get the wrong record,or the information I need won`t be there.Mich has not released all the death records and a person has to be dead for 150 years before you can obtain a birth certificate.Anyone that has been dead that long, likely was not even born here. The reason I couldn`t find it before,my great grandmother`s last name was misspelled on-line,but not on the actual record.I have gotten more information from family search, than my worthless subscription.
You were all very helpfull.Hard to pick a best answer.

Having read your other question, I’m going to answer parts of both in one place.

I have pretty good experience with Michigan marriage records. First, you need to know that there are different types of "marriage records". This is a generic term for anything that documents a marriage, whether it be a marriage license or certificate issued to the couple, a return book, record book, marriage bond, or register book. Each of these will have different information about the couple. In Michigan each county determines what records they keep and what information will be on them. Some counties have made frequent changes. If you get information from the record about the parents is hit and miss. In Michigan they often have place of residence, but usually do not have place of birth or places associated with the parents.

Since you are looking for a copy, I suspect you have not located the record online, but rather an index or transcription of the record. This source should give you the precise information you need to find the copy they indexed or transcribed from. If it was from Family Search you might be able to take the source code information to a Family History Center and request the microfilm. If it’s from a published genealogy book you can sometimes request an inter-library loan from your local branch library, request a photocopy of the page of interest, or check Google Books.

A few tips about ordering records from public agencies: they will not do research and they will not guess, no matter how logical or obvious. They will look for exactly what you ask them to look for. If the date range you ask for is 1 day off, if a name is spelled 1 letter off, or if your information gives them more than 1 possible record you may get a note back saying the record could not be found. This is why the indexes online are helpful. They *should* be exactly as they appear in the record. In both cases this requires that someone is able to read the handwritten record (i.e. Elmira and Elvira can get confused). When you send away to the agency they will either photocopy the information from their books, or they will transfer the information to a form and this form is considered a copy (although not always certified).

GenWebs do not provide records, they provide a place where people can post information and links to helpful resources. What the GenWeb itself provides is free, but not all of the resources they list will be.

Are these the same people?

July 20th, 2011 5 comments

I know that my great grandmother’s name was Kathryn Lescher and that lived in Ohio as a child. I found her in the 1910 census living with her mother whose name is listed as Mary King. I then proceeded to find a death record for a Mary Lescher who was also born in Germany, buried in Ohio and died in Michigan, which is where she was living towards the end of her life. On this death record, her father is listed as having the last name Stein. I then found a marriage record in 1902 for a Mary Stein and a Joseph Lescher in the same area of Ohio. Finally, I found a death record for a Joseph Lescher in 1907 and a marriage record for a Mrs. Mary Lescher and a John King in 1908. Given all of these records, does this all seem to fit together well enough to conclude that these are the same people and in fact my ancestors?
Sorry. John King was also in the home in 1910. I was able to find Mary in the 1900 census but she was living with her sister who she must have come to America with while her parents stayed back in Germany.
Also, her burial was in the same place as where she lived for a large portion of her life growing up.
And the 1910 census says she’s married twice to further back up the two different marriages. The only weird thing is that with the dates she would have married at about 17 years old to a man about 13-14 years older. On the other hand, John King is 13 years older than her as well, so I guess that makes it seem more believable.

Almost all of it is real clear that Mary was married 1st to Joseph, married 2nd as widow to John King, and thus her name is correct in the 1910 census.
My question might be what happened to John King? he wasn’t in the home in 1910? did she divorce him and resume using the prior Lescher name?
Whether or not the death record is your Mary is open to question, even with the last name of Stein. You would need to match up the dates to determine if it is close enough. WHERE is the Ohio burial? is it in the same location as she was raised?
I would still work to find Mary in the 1900 census, and define who the parents were. If they are buried in the same locality as the Mary whose death record you have.. it would be more evidence.

How can I be named executor of my fathers’ estate if we don’t know what his assets are?

May 2nd, 2011 2 comments

My father died 2 weeks ago in the State of Michigan. We have been estranged for 20 years and know nothing about his life in recent years. (I live 500 miles away from where he did) We have found out that he has an IRA and a savings account with Chase Bank. However; the state will not give me control of his estate unless I can be specific about his financial situation. i.e dollar amounts in the accounts and most importantly account numbers. Now here’s the source of my problem: He had an on again-off again girlfriend who has been living with him in recent months prior to his death. She conveniently cannot locate any of his mail, bank statements, IRA statements, tax records or anything that would help me determine the actual assets of his estate. We believe in total his estates worth to be less than $15,000 dollars. I’ve been told about a Letter of Authority which will cost me $150.00 do get. This supposedly will give me access to this information directly from the financial institution. Supposedly. And then I can proceed with declaring his assets for probate. Can any one advise me in this area? What should I do? Am I doing the right thing? Oh, and one more thing to note: the ‘girlfriend’ is not a legal tenant in my fathers’ apartment and is not on the lease. Can I assume that everything in his apartment is his and do I have the legal right to search it to get the information that I need? Thank you for any help you can give me.
Also, there was no will.

You would hire someone to do an accounting of the assets. There are people who you can hire to do that if the estate is large.

Help leaving an abusive husband?

March 27th, 2011 7 comments

First let me say that Ive created this account in case someone out there has an idea I havent thought of. Its humbling to put my story out there, but I need help, so Im asking. The short version is as follows: Im 30 years old, well educated, and a very sweet woman. I lost both of my parents before I was 18 and they were really my only family to speak of. I lived alone, independently for many years until I met my husband, who was a good man, in the beginning. I wouldnt mention this if it was pertinent to the story but he is foreign, it doesnt matter from where, but his nationality has a strong history of treating women poorly. I didnt know a lot about it before I married him and certainly didnt think he would ever treat me badly. I married him 5 years ago and welcomed a baby into the world just over a year ago. Since Ive been married things have gotten worse and worse. He only speaks in his native tongue when his family is over, no one speaks to me at all, all phone calls are private. They make my daughter participate in their cultural traditions(ie: cutting her hair and feeding her food items not approved for infants) against my objection. When I say anything, Im yelled at, pushed out of the way, ignored for days on end, not invited to holidays. Ive been thrown to the ground, pushed and slapped across the face once (breaking my glasses), but never full on hit. Most of my abuse has been verbal – threats, general mistreatment, name calling, yelling, slamming doors, etc. The largest problem is, I feel stuck in a situation I cannot escape from. I lost my job 2 years ago and then suffered a difficult pregnancy (no doubt due to the stress). I began seeking employment after my daughter was 3 months old, but to no avail. I used to hold a high level professional position (I have a college degree), however, in this economy (Michigan)…no one is calling me back. My husbands bad decisions created a situation where we had to file for bankruptcy together (recently), so now I no longer have credit available to me, combined with the failure to find work opportunities, and I have no where to go. If my parents were alive they would certainly help me escape this situation. But I have no one. Regardless, I MUST figure something out for me and my daughter. I need the following (as far as I can tell): a job, a place to live that I can afford, child care (right now shes always with me or my husbands mother), a court order granting me primary custody of our daughter (Id be scared to death to let him take her even on weekends, but Im sure I cannot prevent it). I dont know how to get any of these things without a job. Id divorce him tomorrow if I could (can I hire a lawyer with his money b/c we have a joint bank accnt? what can I do for safety after he finds out I filed? Where would I live? Do I get custody until its all figured out?). He constantly threatens that without a job no judge will grant me any kind of custody of a child because I have nothing to offer her (which I dont, but with me shes safe!) He has had his criminal record wiped clean (all "I know a guy who took care of me" kinda thing) except a drunk driving charge; everyone knows how he is, but no one would dare say anything. Hes a bad man. This situation is getting worse every day. Iam terrified more every day as my daughter gains recognition of daily life, that she will see our life and think this is an acceptable way to be treated. Ive lost my ability to teach her well and offer her a childhood free of stress, yelling and tears. Im in an awful, and as far as I can tell inescapable, situation. Does anyone out there have any real ideas for me? Something has to change and soon…Im was a good person but Im breaking, even my health has suffered terribly. Im nearing 100lbs, Im 5’6", I cant eat b/c Im so nervous all the time. Every day once he goes to work my beautiful daughter and I laugh and play, and as the clock creeps to when he’ll come home I feel my stomach tighten and my nerves are so bad my hands start to shake. I dont have anyone I can tell, everyone I know is a family member or friend of his and they wouldnt think anything of it. This is just how people live in their culture. Plus, Im scared of him, and my home is laced with weapons (not where my girl could reach). My spirit is so broken at this point that I wouldn’t even care if he killed me, but my daughter needs me, Im all she has. She has NO IDEA what an insane life Ive brought her into, and if I can help it, shell never have to know to its full extent. And if I could get away, I could get my life back. I dont deserve this, I have the biggest heart and Ive been taking care of others all my life, but I cant even take care of my own child. What can I do, anyone? Plz do not say call the police . Understand what Ive written, I cant do something radical, and I wont do anything to jeopardize being with my baby, or place us in danger. I need a plan and one I can actua

You could easily get up early tomorrow a.m. & go to your local Family Court. They WILL take care of you by telling you what to do etc. If needs be, there also is a Judge who presides over this court all day every day. This is rite where I’d head as early as I could to make sure you get taken care of tomorrow. I have resorted to using my own local Family Court due to domestic violence so I KNOW they do care, they WILL help you the best they can. You can trust them to take your well being in total concern. I KNOW that’s what I’d do & feel it’s the best for you too….I SO wish you the best, honey. Things will work out for the best for you & the baby. Give them a chance to help you. BTW, I would take a bit of money out of your joint act. Don’t take too much, but DO take some just in case!..:)

How sad& tragic was this? Your thoughts & some of the story inside->?

Prep star hits game-winning shot for perfect season, falls and dies

Tragedy struck Western Michigan on Thursday night when Fennville (Mich.) High basketball star Wes Leonard hit a game-winning shot in a 57-55, overtime victory over Bridgman (Mich.) High, then collapsed on the court while celebrating the victory and was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly thereafter.

According to the Associated Press, Leonard, who you can see making the game-winning shot above, was celebrating his game-winning layup with the rest of his teammates when he collapsed to the ground. Paramedics tried CPR on the star at the site and in the ambulance, but he was pronounced dead upon reaching nearby Holland Hospital.

The star’s death was due to an enlarged heart, Ottawa County medical examiner David A. Smart told ABC News after concluding an autopsy on the player’s body on Friday.

"Obviously, in the midst of celebration, I think shocking is exactly the word," Fennville Superintendent Dirk Weeldreyer told The Holland Sentinel about Leonard’s collapse.

Making matters even more disorienting for Fennville fans were the events that transpired just before Leonard’s death. The junior — who was also the quarterback of the school’s football team last fall — not only hit the winning shot in the team’s final regular-season game, but by doing so he also ensured that the Blackhawks would finish with a perfect, 20-0 record.

"It’s tough to take in," Leonard’s teammate Shane Bale told The Sentinel. "It’s like somebody from your family, you know?"

Rest of this sad story is on this link.->

What a devastating tragedy.. it really makes you think. I knew a kid who loved the game and died while playing it. He was my age (16) and he finally got into the school that he had been dreaming to attend. His passion, talent, skills and love for the game got him a spot on the team. He wanted to lead his team to the championship, but he passed away during practice due to cardiac arrest. To honor him, his team set their goal to win the championship for him and they did!

I need some Genealogy help.?

March 21st, 2011 2 comments

With some help from this site I was able to find my Great Grandfather William P Jones in the 1920 Census (thanks Ted Pack). And using free sites recomended from another site I was able to find them in the 1910 Census. And also found a possible death Certificate for him!! But now I am stuck and have a few more questions.

Below is the Death Cetificate I found. Acording to my aunt he lived in Puyallup when he died wich was before she was born so she is not 100% sure but is sure my Grandmother jane died in Puyallup in the 40’s. So this looks like it may be him. I wrote to the Puyallop library and they could not find a Obit for him. I also wrote to the Pierce county library and am awaiting a responce. So my Question is am I on the right track here? Is there another way to verify this record? My hope was that a Obit would contain more info and hopefully confirm that this is my G Grandfather and maybe give some more information as to my family history.

I also have noticed that the ages given in the 1910 and 1920 census do not match up. However in 1910 a Dosha Jones is listed along with a Martha Jones. My aunt verified that Dosha is her aunts name (my great aunt). I will copy the 2 census pages below could these be the same family even though the ages don’t mach up?

I know this is a long winded question. And also that it has multiple questions in it. I just don’t know much as far as how to look stuff up and how to verify things that i do find.

Ages in census records are frequently incorrect. I’d say you have the correct family. Since it says Dosha and Martha were born in Kansas, I would look for the family there in around 1900. Actually you did well to find the information you did. I just wasted 15 minutes with Ancestry’s "great new" search engine and couldn’t get the 1920 census at all.

A few other things I noticed that might help, his parents were from Wales and he and Jane were married in about 1896.

What do you think of MY picks for the next few WrestleManias?

March 18th, 2011 1 comment

WrestleMania XXVII is confirmed for Atlanta, but later on down the road, I am considering the following locations for upcoming WrestleManias:

WrestleMania XXVIII (28)- April 2, 2012; BC Place in Vancouver, Canada (the same city that hosted the 2010 Winter Games last Feb.) Seating capacity: 64,000-69,000.
WrestleMania 2X9 (29)- March 25, 2013; The Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Seating capacity: 72,000.
WrestleMania 30- March 31, 2014; New Meadowlands Stadium in New York. Seating Capacity: about 68,500.
WrestleMania XXXI (31)- April 6, 2015; Tiger Stadium in Death Valley, California. Seating Capacity: 85,000.
WrestleMania XXXII (32)- March 29, 2016; Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Seating Capacity: 66,600.
WrestleMania 33- April 4, 2017; The Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Seating Capacity: 107,000. (the previous record of 93,000+ for WMIII, set in ’87, will be broken. This will also be the first WrestleMania with a seating capacity of at least 100,000.)
WrestleMania 34- April 3, 2018; The Staples Center in Los Angeles. Seating Capacity: 25,000.
WrestleMania XXXV (35)- April 2, 2019; Wembley Stadium in London, England. Seating Capacity: 99,000. (This also marks the First WrestleMania to take place outside of North America.)
WrestleMania 2020 (36)- April 1, 2020; Univ. Of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. (a decade in the making) Seating Capacity: 75,000.

I’m not a Nostradamus, but I’m not no Edgar Cayce, neither; however, this is merely a prediction. Tell me what you think and give me some feedback, if necessary. Try not to mistake this question for a planetarium this time, okay?

Number 30 would be at the MSG that’s where numbers 1,10,20 were held so i think thats where 30 would be held but apart from that everything else sounds fine
