Where do I get death records?

My mom died when I was 8. I wasn’t told the truth about how she died. I’m 22 now, my older sister just died as well. She was 18 when my mom died, I found some journaling in her things that indicated my mother didnt die the way I was told. How do I get the records of her death? The state is Florida. I have no other family except a 21 yr old sister who knows just as much as I do.

Since you are a direct relative, you can probably buy a copy of her death certificate from the county clerk in the county she died in. It will have cause of death.

You can look in the newspaper, on microfilm in the county library (again, in the county she died in; or, if she lived in County "A" but died in county "B", probably in county "A". She may have had an obituary. If she died in a newsworthy event – car crash, bank robbery, mugging, suicide – she may have had a news article instead of or in addition to an obit.

In my experience news articles come out 0 – 2 days after the death, obits 0 – 7 days after.
