Bennie Motens Kansas City Orchestra – Boot It (1929)

October 12th, 2011 2 comments

Bennie Moten (Nov.13,1894 – April 2,1935) was a noted American jazz pianist and band leader born in Kansas City, Missouri.

He led the Kansas City Orchestra, the most important of the itinerant, blues-based orchestras active in the Midwest in the 1920s, and helped to develop the riffing style that would come to define many of the 1930s Big Bands.

His first recordings were made (for OKeh Records) in 1923, and were rather stiff interpretations of the New Orleans style of King Oliver and others. They also showed the influence of the Ragtime that was still popular in the area. His OKeh sides (recorded 1923-1925) are some of the more valuable acoustic jazz 78’s of the era and continue to be treasured records in many serious jazz collections.

They next recorded in 1926 for Victor Records in New Jersey, and were influenced by the more sophisticate style of Fletcher Henderson, but more often than not featured a hard stomp beat that was extremely popular. Moten remained one of Victor’s most popular orchestras through 1930.

By 1928 Moten’s piano was showing some Boogie Woogie influences, but the real revolution came in 1929 when he recruited Count Basie, Walter Page and Oran ‘Hot Lips’ Page. Walter Page’s walking bass lines gave the music an entirely new feel compared to the 2/4 tuba of his predecessor Vernon Page, coloured by Basie’s understated, syncopated piano fills.

Some recordings made December 13, 1932, during a time of significant hard-ship for the band, show the early stages of what would become know as the “Basie sound”; four years before Basie would record under his own name. By this time Ben Webster and Jimmy Rushing had joined Moten’s band, but Moten himself does not play on these sessions.

After Moten’s death in 1935 after an unsuccessful tonsillectomy, Basie took many of the leading musicians from the band to form his own orchestra.

Moten’s popular 1928 recording of “South” stayed in Victor’s catalog over the years and became a big jukebox hit in the late 1940s.

Can someone help me find my bisabuelos parents names?

September 9th, 2011 3 comments

My great grandfather was Florencio Bribiesca. He was born in Penjamo, Mexico on October 28 1896. Apparently he came to America in 1917 through Texas. He had a wife whose name I dont know and a son named Antonio. Aparently she died in a car crash in Oklahoma. He lived in Texas for the most part untill the mid 1930s. He worked on the Rail Road. He married my bisabuela Cyrilla Parra in Taylor, Texas in 1929 I believe. (I dont have it right in front of me.) They had several sons: Johnny, Jose, and Gregory. Towards the end of the 1930’s he moved to Finney County, Kansas. He died there on his birthday October 28, 1991. If I can get any help Death Records or Obits I would be very thankful.

This looks like great grandfather in 1930. A bisabuela a grandparent?

Hound Dog Taylor – Kansas City.wmv

September 3rd, 2011 2 comments

Taylor was born in Natchez, Mississippi in 1915 (although some sources say 1917). He originally played piano, but began playing guitar when he was 20 and moved to Chicago in 1942.

He became a full-time musician around 1957 but remained unknown outside of the Chicago area where he played small clubs in the black neighborhoods and also at the open-air Maxwell Street Market. He was known for his electrified slide guitar playing roughly styled after that of Elmore James, his cheap Japanese guitars, and his raucous boogie beats. He was also famed among guitar players for having six fingers on his left hand.[2]

After hearing Taylor with his band, the HouseRockers (Brewer Phillips on second guitar and Ted Harvey on drums) in 1970 at Florence’s Lounge on Chicago’s South Side, Bruce Iglauer – at the time a shipping clerk for Delmark Records – tried to get him signed by his employer.[1] Having no success getting Delmark to sign Taylor, Iglauer formed a small record label with a $2500 inheritance and recorded Taylor’s debut album, Hound Dog Taylor and the HouseRockers, on his fledgling Alligator Records in 1971.[1] It was the first release on Alligator records, now a major blues label. It was recorded in a studio in just two nights. Iglauer began managing and booking the band, which toured nationwide and performed with Muddy Waters and Big Mama Thornton.[citation needed] The band became particularly popular in the Boston area, where Taylor inspired a young protege named George Thorogood.

Their second release, Natural Boogie, was recorded in late 1973, and led to greater acclaim and touring. In 1975, Taylor and his band toured Australia and New Zealand with Freddie King and Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. His third Alligator album, Beware of the Dog, was recorded live in 1974 but was only released after his death. More posthumous releases occurred as well, including Genuine Houserocking Music and Release the Hound, on the Alligator label as well as some bootleg live recordings.

Taylor died of lung cancer in 1975, and was buried in Restvale Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.[3][4]

Taylor was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1984.

For those of you naysayers who claim that these signs have always been around, this in itself is a last day Bible prophesy that has been fulfilled (2 Peter 3:3-4)

Just to add to my point, here are other end time Bible prophecies that have been or are being fulfilled:

The Christian gospel would be preached in all nations (Matthew 24:14; Mark 13:10; Revelation 14:6) This has been fulfilled through television, radio and global communication

Global communications foreseen (Revelation 11:9-10; 17:8) TV and global satellite networks allow news to travel the world at the speed of light for the first time ever. Remember that in the apostle John’s day, news traveled at the speed of horseback.

Mankind would be capable of destroying all life (Matthew 24:21-22) When Jesus made this prophecy the armaments of His day were swords and spears. But today, with nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons, it is possible to wipe out all flesh on planet earth.

Deadly diseases (which the Bible calls pe

wow thats long. but yea the end times are coming, especially since half of the worlds civilazation doesnt believe in god and continues to ridicule him
