[[Theodore Robert Bundy, prolific serial killer and rapist—one of the most notorious and despised murderers in U.S. history—has been posthumously baptized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Proxy rites for Bundy, consisting of a baptism and an “endowment” ceremony, were performed on May 28, 2008 in the Jordan River Utah Temple, a Mormon temple in South Jordan, a suburb 16 miles south of downtown Salt Lake City.

Theodore Bundy, who became better known as Ted Bundy, was born on November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont. He is currently listed in the LDS Church’s database of posthumous ordinances, the International Genealogical Index (IGI), under his birth name, Theodore Robert Cowell, to conceal his criminal identity.

Between 1974 and 1978, Ted Bundy raped and killed an untold number of young women in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, and Florida. Authorities believe his victims numbered well over 100. On January 24, 1989, after a ten-year stay of execution, Bundy was executed in the electric chair at Florida State Prison in Starke, Florida. Many spectators cheered and toasted his death with champagne.

In the fall of 1974, during the time he was murdering innocent women, Ted Bundy moved to Salt Lake City. The following year, he joined the LDS Church. Bundy’s involvement with the Mormon religion was apparently short-lived. His name may have been removed from Mormon membership rolls because of his criminal record.

Throwing justice to the wind, less than twenty years after Ted Bundy’s execution, and in the state of Utah—where Bundy once roamed and brutally killed young women without remorse—the LDS Church has secretly reclaimed its most cold-blooded killer.]]

Lots of people have identical names. When names are submitted for temple work, there is no criminal background check performed. It is supposed no faithful member who knew this particular Ted Bundy’s history would submit his name for temple work, because it would be blasphemous to do so. Nevertheless, suppose it did somehow happen, either by the submitting person’s ignorance or from extraction work using lists of names which were not "screened" for undesirables of such nature, and the temple did the work anyway. Such is the routine for people who lived hundreds of years ago, for example, and who knows what their lives were like? We do the work, the Lord judges the people for whom it is done. Regardless, the work done for Bundy would not count any more than if it had been done for some name which never existed.

    Doctrine and Covenants 42:18 states:

18 And now, behold, I speak unto
the church. Thou shalt not kill; and
he that kills shall not have forgive-
ness in this world, nor in the world
    to come.

D&C Section 132 notes that even those who have been to the temple will lose their celestial blessings if they later "commit…murder wherein they shed innocent blood" (verse 26).

If "the" Ted Bundy’s name went through the temple as you claim, it will only add to his tormented feelings of damnation to know that blessings which could have been his will be forever withheld from him because of his indescribable sins. Maybe that is exactly why such a mistake could happen.

LDS believe it’s their duty to baptize anyone whose name they can get…honestly. That’s why they have that awesome genealogy research library in Salt Lake. They promised to stop baptizing Holocaust survivors, but they have been ‘caught’ still doing it.

So what? Just because we performed the ordinance for him, only means that IF he chooses to accept the gospel, the baptism has been performed. We aren’t providing anything for him, other than a conditional service… and who are you to judge? He may have been an awful person and done awful things, but guess what – you aren’t his judge and you never know if he can be forgiven of anything.
MY guess is he won’t accept the gospel and won’t repent – BUT, again, we are doing what we are commanded to do. We believe in the redemption of the dead as well as the living.

"the LDS Church has secretly reclaimed its most cold-blooded killer.]]"
Are you kidding me?? That was lame. We perform ordinances for anyone and everyone – even yours will be performed when you die!
IT has to be that way to be fair. IF you truly knew anything about justice you would know that.
