Anyone mind reading and giving me feedback on my Admissions letter?

April 23rd, 2010 1 comment

The statement of purpose will provide an opportunity to explain any extenuating circumstances that you feel could add value to your application. You may also want to explain unique aspects of your academic background or valued experiences you may have had that relate to your academic discipline. The statement of purpose is not meant to be a listing of accomplishments in high school or a record of your participation in school-related activities. Rather, this is your opportunity to address the admissions committee directly and to let us know more about you as an individual, in a manner that your transcripts and other application information cannot convey.

.
I am originally from Southern California. After I graduated high school I moved around doing odd jobs. I remember spending my summer after graduation working in a hot air condition-less sporting goods warehouses. I remember spending 60 hours a week on my feet making bottle caps for Pepsi at a company called Bericap. I even spent time as a janitor for a company called DTP. Those were not found memories but they did help me get by. The first job I had once I moved here to San Antonio was for a temp Agency. My first assignment was a two day labor job at St. Mary’s University. I was one of the guys who were hired to move beds and such for the incoming freshmen. When I was there I marveled at every single thing on campus, everything from the guards walking around to the beautiful antique buildings. St. Mary’s was the first university campus I ever set foot on. I made a pledge to myself that I would do whatever I could to one day attend St. Mary’s University.

Once I decided to attend St. Mary’s I had to figure out my course of action. I decided to apply first to Northwest Vista because I felt my high school record was not strong enough to carry me into St. Mary’s. My high school record was not great, In fact it was terrible. I went to three different high schools. I dropped out of the second one for a year. Once I decided I needed to get my high school diploma I was held back for the year I missed. I didn’t bother to take the SAT; I don’t even know anyone from my high school that did take them. I did receive a $500 dollar scholarship to a community college, so that encouraged me to attend Chaffey Collage while I worked at Bericap. At first everything went great. I went to work at 7pm and my shift ended at 7am. I would then make it to class which started somewhere between 9am-11am, I can’t recall the exact time. At first things were great but after the first few weeks I was tired. My GPA suffered greatly. I dropped out of collage because I couldn’t work and attend school. It was one or the other for me.

Once I came to San Antonio and decided I wanted to go to Saint Mary’s things started to change. I first had to establish residency to be able to attend Northwest Vista. Once I established residency I tried going to school part time while I work part time. I figured the 12 hour shift I was doing before would be to much for me to handle, but I should be able to handle 30 hours a week. I enrolled at three classes at Northwest Vista. One class did not work out so I ended up with two classes and a part time job. For the first time things seemed to be going great. Towards the end of that semester a close friends passed away. I have known of people that passed away before, but this was the first time I lost someone close to me. I didn’t even think about school during that time, I just grabbed my things and flew to California to spent time with her family. I was taking intro to computers and national government at the time. It was too late for me to drop those two classes I was taking. Since I left without telling anyone at school I failed my computer class. I did all the assignments, but they were not due until the end of the semester. I didn’t turn anything in and I failed that class. My government class was different. I was doing great in that class but didn’t show up for the finals, which brought my grade down to a C.

After the death of my close friend I lost track of my goals. I came back to San Antonio and worked on a few more odd jobs. This time I was a janitor in a pharmaceutical bottling plant in downtown San Antonio. My next job was as a security guard at a bank’s call center. The last job I had was as door to door salesmen. None of those jobs really satisfied my, although I did learn a lot from them all. I eventually made my way back into Northwest Vista. I came back mentally prepared with my eye on the prize. The prize of course is my pledge to do what I can to attend St. Mary’s. As of today I have taken a total of 14 classes, including one remedial and a student development course. Out of the 12 normal course I have received 10 A’s, 2 B’s and nothing lower. It’s not the greatest GPA, but it is something I am proud of accomplishing. I am not including the bad semester I had when I dropped out and left for California. At Northwest Vista I wen
At Northwest Vista I went from academic probation to honors student.

I would be a great asset to your school. I am slightly older then your normal undergrads, but I am experienced. I have been in the workforce. I know what it is like to work 60 hours a week and still struggle to get by. I will go to St. Marys and do the best I can do because I want to be there, not because others expect me to graduate from there.

It’s pretty good i enjoyed the parts where you discussed the hardships of having to work so much and how if affected your school work. it does sound like you jump around a bit too much between events and details in your essay though so you might want to make it smoother so that it flows better. Also explain how certain events affected you instead of just what the event was. Maybe a couple sentences about your home life or parents if they have come from poor or difficult backgrounds or have little education as well and what you have learned from them.

DYING FETUS on CAPITAL CHAOS 2006

April 20th, 2010 25 comments

DYING FETUS interviewed by NICK YASBEK @ Slims – San Francisco, CA 2006, also on the bill were CANNIBAL CORPSE, UNMERCIFUL & NECROPHAGIST. 11/26/2006
Dying Fetus is an American death metal band, known for their outspoken political views, and for being one of the few death metal bands who follow a political nature. Earlier lyrics showcased graphically gory themes.

Constant line-up changes throughout the years have left John Gallagher the only remaining original member. The band’s sound is characterized by blast beats, complex riffing and hardcore-inspired breakdowns. The vocals range from very low death growls to more abrasive upper-throat screams.

Dying Fetus formed in late 1991 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, by John Gallagher (guitar, vocals) and Jason Netherton (bass, vocals).[1] The band began in earnest when the pair met up with guitarist/vocalist Nick Speleos in 1992. During a year of practicing it was decided that Gallagher would fill in on drums until a proper drummer was found. The writing of this period resulted in the 1993 demo Bathe In Entrails In late 1993, the band found drummer Rob Belton, as well as guitarist Brian Latta, who replaced the departed Nick Speleos, which also thrusted John Gallagher back into the role of guitarist and vocalist. Together the new four-piece lineup recorded the Infatuation with Malevolence demo in early 1994, later released together with the first demo in 1995 as a compilation on California Indie label Wild Rags Records. Songs included all tracks from both demos as one CD.

In 1996, the band released their first album, Purification through Violence, on short lived Illinois label Pulverizer Records. The album marked a further refinement of the band’s developing sound of death metal riffing, combined with hardcore inspired breakdowns/mosh riffs, over seven original songs, and one Napalm Death cover, “Scum”. Drummer Rob Belton left and the band was joined briefly in 1995 for a year by drummer Casey Buckler, with whom they performed live, yet never recorded with.

The Surfaris – Moon dawg ( USA instrumental surf guitar )

April 20th, 2010 3 comments

The original band members were Ron Wilson (drums), Jim Fuller (Lead guitar), Bob Berryhill (rhythm guitar) and Pat Connolly (bass). Saxophone player Jim Pash joined after their “Wipe Out” / “Surfer Joe” recording sessions at Pal Studios. Ken Forssi, later of Love, played bass with The Surfaris, as well as Jack Oldham, who performed with the group from 1966-1967, including a performance at the 1967 Grammy Awards.

Wilson’s energetic drum solo made “Wipe Out” one of the best-remembered instrumental song of the period. “Wipe Out” is also remembered particularly for its introduction before the music starts, a cracking sound (imitating a breaking surf board), and a maniacal laugh followed by the only two words of the song, “wipe out”. “Wipe Out” is often regarded as being the surfing anthem.[citation needed] “Wipe Out” was written in the studio by the four original members (Berryhill, Connolly, Fuller, Wilson), and was originally going to be titled “Switchblade”.

The band released a series of records, with two other singles, “Surfer Joe” and “Point Panic”, having an impact on the charts. Point Panic is a renowned surfing venue in Hawaii named after the song.

The Surfaris disbanded in 1966 but have periodically reunited and are still active as of 2008[update], performing and recording, often re-recording their old and new songs. They still perform as Bob Berryhill’s Surfaris and Jim Fuller’s Surfaris (two separate groups) all over United States and Europe with a large fan base.

Following the death of television personality Morton Downey, Jr., news reports and obituaries incorrectly credited him as the composer of “Wipe Out” (as well as The Chantays’ “Pipeline”).[1] As of 2006[update], Downey’s official website continues to make this claim.[2]

Drummer Ron Wilson died on 7 May 1989, one month short of his 44th birthday. Wilson had released an album of his songs, entitled Lost It In The Surf, on Bennet House Records of Grass Valley, California, which was recorded in June 1987. A very small number of cassettes of this album were produced. Lost It In The Surf included a cover of “Louie Louie”, complete with Scottish bagpipes.

“Wipe Out” featured in the film, Dirty Dancing.

Psych Drugging Foster Children Florida Senate Comm Pt1 – Gabriel Myers Bill

April 20th, 2010 No comments

Florida Senate Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs – Psychotropic Drug Use Among Foster Children. Oct 7, 2009. Senators committee to discuss SB2718 after death of Gabriel Myers. Children are not given traditional therapy but instead are subjected to extreme psychotropic drugging. Point made that psychiatry is not what it used to be and has resorted to drugging; the move away from psychiatry which should be replaced with more traditional use of psychologists for therapy if needed – attachment disorder, trauma therapy.

Florida Senate 2010 SB 2718. By Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs; and Senator Storms. A bill to be entitled An act relating to the provision of psychotropic medication to children in out-of-home placements.

In Memory of 7 Year Old Gabriel Myers: In wake of childs suicide, Legislature moves to limit foster cares reliance on psychiatric drugs. March 19, 2010. St. Petersburg Times, By Cristina Silva, Times Staff Writer.
TALLAHASSEE, Fl. – A year after a 7-year-old boy heavily medicated on powerful psychiatric drugs hanged himself in his Margate foster home, lawmakers are pushing to reform state medical requirements for foster children.
The Senates Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee unanimously approved a measure Thursday designed to curb the prescription of mental-health drugs to children in state care.
The proposed law would require the state Department of Children and Families to assign volunteer guardians to oversee each childs mental health care. It prohibits foster children from being the subject of clinical drug trials and raises the age at which children are allowed to take these drugs from 6 to 11 in many cases.
The measure (SB2718 and HB1567) would also give children some say in the drugs they take.
We are not just going to medicate them until they turn 18 and then dump them into adulthood, said sponsor Sen. Ronda Storms, R-Brandon, chairwoman of the Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee.
The states growing use of adult medication on emotionally and mentally troubled children has sparked debate for years.
Multiple state studies show child-welfare doctors and case managers routinely failed to follow legally required treatment plans or properly document when and why drugs were given to foster children, creating a network of youth sedated by chemical straitjackets, Storms said.
The death of Gabriel Myers in April further revealed the shortcomings of 2005 legislation that required more information sharing, parental involvement and second-party review of doctors prescriptions for the youngest children.
Because foster children are often cared for by multiple service contractors, communication lapses and fragmented mental health care are still rampant, a recent state report on Myers death determined.
Our response to him was to medicate him, and medicate him, and medicate him, Storms said.
Under the bill, proposed medical treatment plans must be explained to a child and the child must consent to the treatment in many cases before taking the drugs.
What this means is less medication and more behavior analysis so that they are not just sedated little zombies, said Jan Montgomery, president of the Florida Association for Behavior Analysis, which would train legal guardians to observe and treat behavioral problems.
Still, Montgomery said she did not expect a sudden culture shift, given failed past efforts to track foster childrens medical records.
Its going to be a slow slide toward what we are hoping is the right way, Montgomery said.

Do you find the timing of the death of Socks Rodham Clinton suspicious?

April 17th, 2010 3 comments

Was the sudden death of former First Feline Socks during Hillary’s visit to China a warning signal from the Chicoms to keep her yap shut about China’s dismal human rights record?

"(Hillary) noted that both sides already knew the other’s positions on the matter and said that human rights concerns "can’t interfere with the global economic crisis, the global climate change crisis and the security crises."

Her comments drew immediate fire from rights groups who said they sent the wrong message, undermined efforts to promote basic freedoms in China and squandered Washington’s leverage with Beijing. "

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090221/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/as_clinton_china

Some say that her careless statement about the possible abrupt premature death of a half white/half black "Cat" in the primaries cost her the presidential election. Oh you’re talking about the feline not the politician. As cold hearted as she is she will probably send poor Sock’s remains over to China to be served as a main course.

I need to get a copy of a death certificate?

April 17th, 2010 5 comments

I am in a dead end situation…I need to get a copy of a death certificate for a person that I bought a home from. Her family is not cooperating wiht me and I need to submit it to my home insurance. Are these records public? I live in Houston, Texas.

~~They are public records. You can go to your state’s website and if allowed order it online, just look for Hall of Records or County Recorders offices.

If they do not allow you to order via the internet, then you can order in person. Just call the county where the deceased was living and order it in person.~~
