Where do I find a record store or a music store in New York City?

March 18th, 2011 2 comments

I want to buy some albums (Death Metal) and I have no clue where to buy such.

J&R Music World is the best shop that I know. They seem to have everything. Easy to find, they are at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, across the street from City Hall, near the Woolworth Building, quarter mile from Wall Street, two blocks from the WTC site and so on.

Old New York or New- New York?

Our records all show
You are filthy but fine

But they shuttered your stores
When you opened the doors
To the cops who were bored
Once they’d run out of crime

New York, you’re perfect
Don’t please don’t change a thing

Your mild billionaire mayor’s
Now convinced he’s a king

So the boring collect
I mean all disrespect

In the neighborhood bars
I’d once dreamt I would drink

New York, I Love You
But you’re freaking me out

There’s a ton of the twist
But we’re fresh out of shout

Like a death in the hall
That you hear through your wall

New York, I Love You
But you’re freaking me out

New York, I Love You
But you’re bringing me down

New York, I Love You
But you’re bringing me down

– i couldnt fit all the lyrics but i was just listening to this song by LCD Soundsytem.

And, now im only 15, so i never really got to experience this New York, that the song portrays. I love living here with all my heart, but did i miss out big time missing the "old" new york of the 70’s and 80’s?

Yeah you missed out big-time.

New York in the 80s was like living in Rome under Nero.

We had Queen Ed presiding from city hall, the East Village was Clubland, there were the Tompkins Square riots…

CBGBs was still open, you could eat Thai noodles, drink Russian vodka, listen to American punk on a Japanese stereo, and you didn’t have to be wealthy to live in Manhattan.
