Do You Think Television is Destroying the Country?

May 5th, 2010 8 comments

Ever read the book Amusing Ourselves to Death? Basically it puts forth an argument that says TV makes the population, well, dumber.

TV masks entertainment as fact. TV isnt a medium to inform the citizentry as much as it is a way to entertain the citizenry. TV commercials convince you that you can solve your problems in 30 seconds.

Throughout American history, print media has been a means of starting public discourse. Common Sense, for example. The New York Times was the paper of record. Now people only want entertainment via the TV or the Internet. They tune out listening to their Ipods and can take their TV shows with them wherever they go. People are more passive. They accept what they are told. Like Iraq.

In the 1800s people actually read the Lincoln Douglass debates. They were that interested. Now people barely care about the content of a political debate. How the candidate looks on TV is more important than what they say.

TV makes us "dumber".

No, there are a lot of ways to gain knowledge and an intelligent individual would know that TV is not a wise choice. It is for entertainment

I have already called the DNR In Liberty Co,Ga and THEY where of no help.It seems it is not there job to remove or even record the death of this endangered Bird.Nor are they worried that it might have died from the bird flu or killed by a poacher. So if some one knows what I’m to do with this Kite I would really like to know. And no I will not dump it on the door steps of the DNR.

I would suggest burying it before it starts to smell.

Protected species die of natural causes all the time. There is no need to contact anybody or have anybody record the death. They do not track endangered species by counting each individual animal. They use a method in which they conduct a survey to estimate the population of the species. As such, they really don’t need to be alerted every time one has died or is born. If there is no sign that it was killed deliberately, give the poor thing a little dignity and bury it.
