What’s the best record store you’ve ever been to on the east coast?

July 18th, 2010 2 comments

Does anyone know of any awesome music stores on the American east coast? Somewhere near New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Rhode Island, Boston, Maine, and even southern Quebec/Ontario. Please mention the kind of music they sell (I’m into anything except hardcore rap and death metal).

There’s Turn it Up in Vermont, New Hampshire and Mass. They sell a lot of independent music.

Which tribe are more peaceful, the Chicago tribe or the Zulu tribe?

Shaka Zulu

Shaka became King in 1816 and died in 1828. In the twelve years that he was King the Zulu nation became the mightiest military force in Southern Africa. Shaka was killed by his half bother Dingane kaSenzangakhona who stabbed him to death. He took the body and threw it in an empty tomb.

It was a tradition in Zululand that when a King dies, before he can be put in a tomb, people are executed (these people volunteered to die for the king or were forced) and put inside before him, but this went overboard later when Nandi died over 7,000 were executed "in grief",the Zulu clan.

http://www.zulu-culture-history.com/

But in comparison with other major cities, Chicago has an elevated murder total. For instance, in 2009, Chicago recorded 458 homicides and New York City 471 – when New York’s population is nearly three times as large as Chicago’s.

I will go with the Zulu tribe, they were savages, unlike the "highly educated" Obama supporters in Chicago

I think they are one and the same

The Universal Zulu Nation was a gang which I’m sure still has the remnants of a chapter in Chicago

Do you think Diddy arranged Big’s death?

June 17th, 2010 11 comments

Do you think P. Diddy arranged to pay hitmen to kill Notorious B.I.G.?

Most people know Diddy has an obsession with money. He also seems to have an obsession with fame – he’s known as being an elite New York socialite, he’s known for Bad Boy Records, he’s known for his music, several movie roles, & MTV’s Making the Band.

My question is this: would Diddy have achieved this fame & fortune had Biggie not been killed? Did Biggie’s death sky-rocket Diddy, the former behind-the-scenes man, into the front-row seat?

I personally feel like Diddy, who was Biggie’s supposed best friend, would have arranged to have Biggie killed in order to take his spot in the mainstream spotlight, to become the famous artist that Biggie was (assuming Diddy was jealous, since he’s a p*ssy & all), & to gain the wealth. Let’s face it, Diddy’s record company is called BAD BOY RECORDS – he loves appearing as a bad apple to the public. He was also involved in a shooting incident at a nightclub w/ Jennifer Lopez, in which he supposedly was the shooter & he made his artist, Shyne, take the blame.

Anyone with eyes can see that Diddy has a massive ego – he loves being the center of attention. After watching Biggie get all the attention, it seems like he would have gotten jealous. In my opinion, Diddy not only smoked a n*gga up in the club, he also had his "best friend" smoked.

What are your thoughts?
1. Also, he made "Missin’ You" RIGHT after Big’s death. To me, it seems like he was simply cashing in on the whole ordeal and boosting himself into stardom.

2. Diddy is known as being a little b*tch who WISHES he was as cool as his portrayed persona.

Genetic Tracing to my 2nd Great Grandfather?

June 14th, 2010 2 comments

I’ve been doing genealogy for quite a while now, and I have the use of ancestry.com and have a lot of my genealogy listed out on Family Tree Maker. Well a certain part of my genealogy has had me stumped for a long while. My great, great grandfather, Sylvester Rufus Allen, I can find nothing on except that he married Faith Wilbur Ostrander in 1901 in Portsmouth, VA. She was born July 25, 1883 in Rensselaer County, New York and died June 01, 1960 in Portsmouth, VA. They had four kids. Ruth Louise Allen, my great grandmother (born October 30, 1903 in South Norfolk, VA (?)), Luther L. Allen (b. Abt. 1904 in Virginia), Richard Cline Allen (b. Abt. 1906 in Virginia) and Teresa Mae Allen (b. May 17, 1909 in Portsmouth, VA). I’ve looked at Ruth’s death certificate (she lived and died in Beaufort Co, NC) and it does confirm that her father was Rufus Allen (but it does not list where he was born). Aunt Tessie Roberts (Teresa Mae Allen) died in February 1997 in Troy, Rensselaer County, NY. My hope is that someday I can go to NY and find her death certificate and see if it tells something new about Rufus. (ancestry.com doesn’t have some death certificates on there, especially not new ones).

I have a hunch though, that there’s a possibility that Rufus Allen immigrated from either Ireland or England (or is the son or grandson of immigrants). I have no other relatively close ancestors that immigrated (closest would be like 7th great grandparents), so my question is, would a DNA blood test confirm that I have close Irish or English blood in me and kind of give me a hint as to where the Allen’s come from? I can find no records of a Rufus Allen in Virginia, North Carolina or New York and he died around 1916 or so (so I’m told) and he married in 1901 so the only census that I’d be able to find both Rufus and his wife, Faith in would be the 1910 census; which I conveniently can find no record of with them in it.

DNA tests themselves with not tell you from what countries your ancestors immigrated. They can be helpful in many cases in allowing you to match yourself with others’ family trees.

Y DNA is passed from father to son. In other words you get Y from your father, his father, his father and so on. If Sylvester Rufus Allen is in your direct paternal line you have a chance of making a match with other family trees that can help you discover his origins.

Mitochondrial DNA is passed from mother to both sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to their children. You got your Mitochondrial from your mother, her mother, her mother and so on.

Autosomal which you get 50-50 from both parents. However, when you get back to your grandparents it will not be 25-25-25-25. You got 50% from your paternal grandparents and 50% from your maternal grandparents but what you inherited will not be an even breakdown between grandmother and grandfather on both sides of your family. How you inherited this bias will not be how your siblings inherited it unless you have an identical twin.

Y & Mitochondrial are used in genealogy for people to match themselves to other family trees. However, they represent a very tiny part of your DNA and a very tiny part of your total ancestry. You have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great grandparents, 16 great great grandparents and it doubles up each generation you go back. For instance if you get back to your 16 great great grandparents, having both Y & Mitochondrial tested would leave out 14 of them.

It is a more complicated to use Autosomal for genealogy purposes. Now, there is one company that will take your Autosomal DNA and match you with population groups throughout the world. But this will not prove the origin of your great great grandfather. The same DNA crosses racial, national and ethnic boundaries. There are no pure races, nationalities or ethnicities. DNATribes will give you your top 20 matches in descending order.

Now another option for you is a copy of a social security number application for one of his children. The 2 I had ordered for someone had the names of both parents, including mother’s maiden name and their places of birth. Social Security didn’t start until January 1, 1935. The index begins for deaths around the mid 1950s. Now I have been told and I have found it to be true that if a person was not drawing social security at time of death and on their own social security number that they will not be on the index.
Two I found that this did not apply to were a couple of elderly people who had to get Medicaid. They had never put into Social Security or drew Social Security benefits but they had to get a Social Security number in order to get Medicaid. The dates of death on both were about a week off.

Rootsweb(free site) has the Social Security Death Index. Even though there is a space for the social security number, you don’t necessarily need it as long as you put the name in as they were on social security. Once you find a person if you click on SS-5 letter to the right it will pull up a letter that all you need to do is put your return address on it and attach a $27 check.

I believe a copy of a social security number application is more reliable. The applicant himself/herself gave the information on his/her parents. A death certificate often relies upon a widow or widower giving that info on their inlaws or one of the children giving the information on their grandparents under very stressful conditions.

I was wondering if I had a case or lawsuit against nyc or something?

June 3rd, 2010 11 comments

I was wondering if I had a case or lawsuit against the Bronx District or new york city for the death of my father. Approximately two years ago, someone attacked my father and the trauma to his head resulted in his death. This person was on parole and had killed three people prior to my father and I was shock to know that someone with such a record was out in society. He should have not been out of jail. Do you think I have a case against Bronx County for having this guy out on parole?against the Bronx District County or newyork city for the death of my father. You should consider bringing legal action against either the state (it’s not the city that is at fault, it’s the state) or the parole board, in order to bring attention to the case. This definitely shouldn’t have happened, considering the inmate’s history. Your family may be entitled to money to compensate you for lost income and hospital bills. Yours is one of the few cases where a lawsuit is definitely justified. Go speak with a reputable lawyer to find out which options you have. If you can, try to avoid settling in exchange for keeping quiet — you want to get your story told, to let the public know what happened in order to pressure the system into changing.

I’m sorry for your loss. I hope that you’ll be able to take action against the parole board and/or state, and hopefully help to prevent something like this from happening to another family.

Do I have to be a Democrat to vote after I’m dead?

May 31st, 2010 8 comments

An analysis of state-wide records by the Poughkeepsie Journal reveals that 77,000 dead people remain on election rolls in New York State, and some 2,600 may have managed to vote after they had died. The study also found that Democrats are more successful at voting after death than Republicans, by a margin of four-to-one, largely because so many dead people seem to vote in Democrat-dominated New York City.

Answer these questions about John Lennon.?

May 26th, 2010 2 comments

John Lennon was a member of The Beatles, one of the world’s most famous bands. The other band members were Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Lennon was born in Liverpool, England, on October 9, 1940. His first band was called The Quarrymen. Lennon played the guitar and the keyboard and sang vocals. In 1957, Paul McCartney joined Lennon’s band as a guitarist and singer. Later that year, George Harrison, another guitarist, joined. In 1960, Pete Best became the band’s drummer. The band changed its name two more times before it was called The Beatles.

In 1962, The Beatles got a record contract with a British recording company. Lennon and McCartney wrote the songs that the band recorded. Just before they made their first record, Ringo Starr replaced Pete Best on the drums. The Beatles’ records and albums were instant best-sellers in Britain and Europe, and the group became a sensation. In 1964, they performed on U.S. television and were a huge hit. After that, they were followed everywhere by screaming fans. It was known as Beatlemania.

The Beatles performed together for the last time in San Francisco on August 29, 1966. The band later broke up. John Lennon married Cynthia Powell, an art student, in 1962. They had a son, John Julian, in 1963 and divorced in 1968. In 1969, Lennon married Yoko Ono, an artist and a musician. Their son, Sean, was born in 1975. After The Beatles broke up, Lennon recorded his own music. He had hit records in 1970 and 1973. He formed a band with Yoko Ono and a record album they made in 1980 was a big success. They also became active in the peace movement.

Why do Republicans back Guiliani after his incompetent handling of 9/11?

May 20th, 2010 13 comments

This clown puts an emergency center in the WTC AFTER the 1993 bombing, communications systems WERE NOT upgraded, even though Islamic terrrorists had made it known New York City was a target and needlessly cuased respiratory illnesses with a rushed clean up of the WTC site.

Guiliani is nothing but a dirtbag giving photo ops AFTER 9/11, shamelessly exploiting 3000 deaths for his benefit and to cover up his incompetence of allowing and causing death, illness and injury.

but here’s hoping Guiliani is the Republican nominee, the record he runs on is the record which deserves to be attacked.
Yes, I’d have the guts to question Guiliani and given the propensity of Republicans blaming Clinton for 9/11, this is no rant, but a real question.
I might give Guiliani a pass on lack of preparations for 9/11 IF the 1993 WTC bombing had not taken place and IF how the sheik who planned the 1993 bombing had said things showing it was still a target.
In fact, I would LOVE to question Guiliani about his lack of preparations allowing extra deaths of 9/11. I would love to have those questions broadcast live! It’s EVERYONE ELSE who lacks the guts to question Guiliani.
If Guiliani wants to answer this question, he can do so as well as the reply with article critical of Guiliani, he can do so!

Might as well do it now, if he gets the nomination, hope can be a "Firefighters for the truth" group that forms.

Actually your assertion is absolutely correct, I thank God there are still people like you who don’t jump onto the media bandwagon and actually bother to do the research..

Here you go straight from msnbc news:
Giuliani faces questions about Sept. 11
Post-terrorist attack hero status challenged by some firefighters’ families

NEW YORK – Rudy Giuliani’s White House aspirations are inescapably tied to Sept. 11, 2001 – for better and for worse.

While the former mayor of the nation’s largest city was widely lionized for his post-9/11 leadership – "Churchillian" was one adjective, "America’s mayor" was Oprah Winfrey’s assessment – city firefighters and their families are renewing their attacks on him for his performance before and after the terrorist attack.

"If Rudolph Giuliani was running on anything but 9/11, I would not speak out," said Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son was among the 343 FDNY members killed in the terrorist attack. "If he ran on cleaning up Times Square, getting rid of squeegee men, lowering crime – that’s indisputable
"But when he runs on 9/11, I want the American people to know he was part of the problem."

Such comments contradict Giuliani’s post-Sept. 11 profile as a hero and symbol of the city’s resilience – the steadfast leader who calmed the nerves of a rattled nation. But as the presidential campaign intensifies, criticisms of his 2001 performance are resurfacing.

‘He disrespected us in the most horrific way’
Giuliani, the leader in polls of Republican voters for his party’s nomination, has been faulted on two major issues:

– His administration’s failure to provide the World Trade Center’s first responders with adequate radios, a long-standing complaint from relatives of the firefighters killed when the twin towers collapsed. The Sept. 11 Commission noted the firefighters at the World Trade Center were using the same ineffective radios employed by the first responders to the 1993 terrorist attack on the trade center.

Regenhard, at a 2004 commission hearing in Manhattan, screamed at Giuliani, "My son was murdered because of your incompetence!" The hearing was a perfect example of the 9/11 duality: Commission members universally praised Giuliani at the same event.

– A November 2001 decision to step up removal of the massive rubble pile at ground zero. The firefighters were angered when the then-mayor reduced their numbers among the group searching for remains of their lost "brothers," focusing instead on what they derided as a "scoop and dump" approach. Giuliani agreed to increase the number of firefighters at ground zero just days after ordering the cutback.

More than 5 1/2 years later, body parts are still turning up in the trade center site.

"We want America to know what this guy meant to New York City firefighters," said Peter Gorman, head of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association. "In our experiences with this man, he disrespected us in the most horrific way."

The two-term mayor, in his appearance before the Sept. 11 Commission, said the blame for the death and destruction of Sept. 11 belonged solely with the terrorists. "There was not a problem of coordination on Sept. 11," he testified.

Giuliani was also criticized for locating the city’s emergency center in 7 World Trade Center, a building that contained thousands of gallons of diesel fuel when it collapsed after the terrorist attack.

The politics of 9/11
The lingering ill will between Giuliani and firefighters was resurrected when the International Association of Fire Fighters initially decided not to invite the former mayor to its March 14 candidates forum in Washington. Other prominent presidential hopefuls, including Republican John McCain and Democrats Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Edwards, addressed the nation’s largest firefighters union.

According to the Giuliani camp, the contretemps with the union dates to tough contract negotiations in his second term as mayor. His critics deny any political motivation.

The IAFF drafted a membership letter – it was never sent – that excoriated Giuliani and promised to tell "the real story" about his role in handling the terrorist attack
The then-mayor’s decision to change policy on the ground zero recovery effort was "an offensive and personal attack" on firefighters, the letter said, going on to say that Giuliani’s "disrespect … has not been forgotten or forgiven."

Giuliani countered the attacks by releasing an open letter of support from retired firefighter Lee Ielpi, whose firefighter son was among the 2,749 victims on Sept. 11. "Firefighters have no greater friend and supporter than Rudy Giuliani," Ielpi said.

A contingent of nearly 100 South Carolina firefighters also expressed their support for Giuliani and his White House hopes.

Hank Sheinkopf, a veteran political consultant, predicted the 9/11 criticisms could resonate beyond New York during the presidential campaign.

"These are very emotional people who will touch a responsive chord with a lot of the electorate," he said. "The things that the 9/11 families say will wind up in television commercials used against Rudy Giuliani."

The issues also have forced Giuliani to try to strike a balance to avoid the perception that he’s exploiting the attacks for his own personal gain. President Bush faced the same challenge in 2004 when he invoked the attacks to portray himself as a strong and steady leader in the face of terrorism. Some victims’ relatives criticized Bush for using the ruins of the World Trade Center in his campaign commercials, while others defended him.
