Can you please explain why police can’t do anything for the death threat and stalking threat I received?

April 2nd, 2011 5 comments

First I was scammed online. I was tricked to send money by western union to someone in Florida. Later when I realized i was scammed and demanded my money back from that person, I was sent death threat and stalking threat through cell phone text messages. I went to the local police station near my home to report of this online scam and death threat text messages. As evidence those threatening text messages are still there. So I provided the cell phone number of the offenders. I also provided the name of person who was sent money through western union. Police said, "there is no way possible to find the identity of these people". First they said it maybe Nigeria scam. I insisted that the person is in Florida, not Nigeria because that’s what western union record shows. Later police told me, "their cell phone numbers are untraceable and the western union name i sent money too is extremely common". I feel police wasn’t interested in the case. Why cannot the identity of person be found if his cell phone number is known? Especially if he lives in Florida. I don’t believe this. Police then said that the death threat appears fake and nothing would happen. But I am not convinced. Please suggest me what to do.
just curious: was my complaint not taken seriously because I am not white? i know this maybe a far stretch, but just want to know.
its not nigeria. the scammer is in florida
i lost $300
the evidence are the text messages which i have stored. western union is evidence too. everything is based on the text messages I received.

Sorry, but the information you have is one of the scammer’s fake names, one of his free email addresses and one of his paid-for-in-cash cell phone numbers, none of that information is going to help your local law enforcement agency find anyone.

Your scammer could be anywhere in the entire world, the address in Florida was probably copied from the phone book.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off the cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country the money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

While the death threats are annoying and scary, there is nothing that scammer can do, he is located half way around the world from you.

What you can do is slow that scammer down. Making a scammer’s scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the scammer’s name, email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a victim because you took the time to "get the word out".

Wasting a scammer’s time legally and safely is called "scambaiting". If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, ask questions and learn all about that hobby.

I live in Texas- my parents diviorced 15 years ago and since then unaware to me she has kept all of his letters and any form of communication hidden from me. I was informed 2 days ago thru the attorney generals office – that my father was now listed as deceased. Thats it I ran a search and the only info I could get was that he died september 24,2008 in port richey florida and he was cremated. I need help finding my rights as his daughter to access his information such as siblings, last will and testimonys, and offical cause of death. Basicialy I want to find out as much as possible about him as I am not able to even visit a grave site? Please help- my family hated him and I have no support I have search online for for days finding anything I can and this is all I have. I f anyone knows of anything I can do please let me know?

Facts: Lewis william wood
02/07/1953 – 09/24/2008 died at age 55
Born in michigan- died in new port richey, florida (online it said ss listed as california)
divorced from: Tina Wood- Texas
known children: Ashley & Adam Wood Juanita (half sister I only heard of but no other info)
No alive relatives on his side
Please help in my search to know my deceased father – also why was I informed 2 years after the fact? Why Did it take that long?
~*~*~*~ Thank you for taking the time to help- as stated below-
The TEXAS attorney general sent the notification to my mother because of child support- back pay

I looked at the letter and althought I know she would not of told me the letter was mailed out 2 days before I saw it

And yes I did ask her and she ofcourse denies any letters were ever sent or recieved by him to us

Yes found funeral home and called but b/c privacy laws they could tell me nothing but he had past and he was cremated- thats where I hit a road block

thank you so much for any help- it truly means the world to me

> she has kept all of his letters and any form of communication hidden from me.

You could threaten to sue her for them. She might just burn them, though, and lie about it.

> the only info I could get was that he died september 24,2008 in port richey florida

You’ll have to write to the county there, prove you are related (A Xerox of your driver’s license and birth certificate should do it) and buy a copy of his death certificate. It will have cause of death and who did the cremation. The funeral home may have a copy of his obituary; it may not. If not, you can try writing to the county library, sending a SASE and a small donation. They will usually look it up for you. I looked for 20 minutes and didn’t see any obit on-line.

> siblings,

That will be in the obituary, maybe.

> last will

You’ll have to write to the probate court in his county, and will probably have to buy a copy.

> official cause of death.

Death certificate,, above.

> Basically I want to find out as much as possible about him

If his obit says he was a member of the Elks Club and First Methodist, you could write to both, explain your problem and ask if any member who knew him would send you their memories.

> also why was I informed 2 years after the fact? Why Did it take that long?

Just some guesses:
a) Your mother hates you
b) Your mother didn’t think it was important
c) He left you a million dollars and she is spending it as fast as she can
d) None of the above

How to obtain medical records of deceased relative from Florida?

June 29th, 2010 1 comment

I’ve lost 3 people in my family to a disease. I’ve been told to get their medical records for screening purposes regarding my own health and the health of my children. I’ve been able to get the records of all but one. This is my brother whom died in Florida in 2007. We are told the only people that can get the records are the three listed on the death certificate. I had one of them do this. Now, we’re being told differently – that only the person who filled out the death certificate form (his wife) can access the records. Currently she is already remarried and wants no part in helping. What is the law? Who exactly can get the records and how do we go about this without getting help from the wife? We are out of state. We also were told my doctor could not request these records without a court order showing "just cause" – family history of a disease is not a reason… so we are told. Please help.

I would suggest you hire an attorney who specializes in health and/or family law. Good luck.

My job failed to follow through with a change of beneficiary.?

March 8th, 2010 3 comments

My husband passed away on 1-31-06 from sickle Cell Disease. We would have been married 3 years a week before his death. We both work for the Chicago Transit Authority in Illinois. We have Life Insurance through our company. One year and prior to his death, we went down to the company headquarters (Merchdise Mart) to do a change of beneficiary making each other our beneficiary. We submited the forms and that was it. After his death I found CTA had never made his changes. They made him my beneficiary but did not make me his beneficiary. I was told the only record of beneficiary they had in his folder was his ex-wife, from 1998. My in-laws encourage me to continue to fight this and not give up. The young lady that received the document we submited no longer works for the company. The insurace money is still there. I’ve lost my home and I’m in a real financial bind. Please! Can someone help?
I was given a copy of the change form making him by beneficiary. I was told his folder was completely empty.

see a lawyer. you need professional help.

Many of the Army records were lost.

If you are next of kin you can get full records. Otherwise you can get a summary of his records. Ask the next of kin to get the records for you.

You can start here: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html

Life & Death – Lost Soundtrack

January 20th, 2010 25 comments

The fruit of my Saturday morning labor. I learned to play all the music, recorded and edited all today. All instruments are played by me, and the reason for the poor quality sound is because i don’t have any fancy audio recording equipment. So tell me what you think of my try at this very touching song.
i played the piano and had to record my clarinet twice in some spots for harmony.
