Birth and death certificates public record?

October 25th, 2011 1 comment

I have heard that birth and death certificates are public record yet its so darn hard to find them and when ya do you have to pay to see them. I dont want a copy sent to me i just want to see them. My boyfriend was in jail and his mother commited suicide. We have nol idea where she is buried or even the day she died. It must be very hard on him not knowing where his mothers body was laid to rest. I want to ask him about it but i know he is hurt over the whole thing. So does anyone know where i can find public records on a persons death online?

You must write in your request to the local state requesting birth and death certificates.

a family member of hers might be able to access this certificate but you’re not authorized.

government owned websites contain instructions on how to access these records. learn more:

Where can I find information about dead relatives?

July 29th, 2010 3 comments

My dad committed suicide almost 12 years ago and I wanted to know if there is a website or place where I can get information about his death. Does the US and/or state of California even record everyone’s death???

Thanks for your help =)

In the United States, deaths are recorded by death certificates.

There are many websites online where you can search legal documents for a price.

How much of someones death is public record?

January 2nd, 2010 3 comments

I had a friend kill himself and I was wondering how much of the information regarding his death is public record, and where and how do I get a hold of the info that is avalible to the public.

Deaths and certificates and are matter of pubic record; much would depend on the pubic interest of the deceased, wherein a reporter might delve into as many specifics as they could to get a good story, or just the cause of death on the certificate itself as listed by the Corner’s office, which would typically indicate "Suicide" and what organ(s) that were damaged that initially or what there examination shows caused the death.

Whatever local entity houses death certificates would be the best start, but it would not be limited to that depending upon public interest.
