RHH: WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE HOUSTON LABEL RAP-A-LOT RECORDS?

September 9th, 2011 7 comments

The record label has been out almost as long as Def Jam. In the 90s Houston had some of the most gangster and violent hip-hop, even more so than the West Coast that gets most of the credit for gangster albums. Most of the Rap-A-Lot early releases have gone pretty much unnoticed and only acknowledge by those who dig deep for hip-hop music. So, for this post I’ll be shedding some light on the forgotten city of H-town and some of it’s gem.

In my opinion these are great albums that could make a great addition to your collection:

1991:Geto Boys: We Can’t Be Stopped- This one is a straight classic and it’s what put Texas on the map. I will not going into detail as I feel this album is already known by most fans, who can forget Mind Playing Tricks on Me?

1992 Big Mello: Bone Hard Zaggin- This album is on some pimp-smooth sh*t. The album has great production that’s great for riding in the car and I would dare to say that it’s better than the overrated The Chronic. Mac’s Drive ‘Lac’s is the highlight song in my opinion that would give you that southern player style that represents Texas.

1991:Convicts:Convicts- This album is the best ignorant rap album in history. It has some of the most ignorant views, but it’s done in a way that’s appealing for being so straight forward without holding back. The songs are set to old-style Houston beats, strictly harmonicas and church organs. It’s basically the genius of ignorant rap.

1992: Ganksta N-I-P: The South Park Psycho- This one is simply a horrorcore/gansgter rap album. NIP says some of the most weirdest things on this album, like clamming he has had sex with 90 year old grannies to women having sex with pit bulls. Check out it out, if you like dark topics…

91& 94: Scarface: Mr. Scarface Is Back/The Diary- These two albums are pretty much known by most, so I won’t say anymore.

1993: Seagram: The Dark Road- This rapper is from Oakland and he was shot to death in 96. The guy talks about dark subject matter and life experiences. Seagram makes a lot of reference of the devil, acknowledging Satan as ruler of the world. This is really Sea’s best LP, the dark roads has the old school samples from Tom Tom Club, Isaac Hayes, Zapp, & Chocolate Milk. It also has some groovy feel to it reminiscent to DJ Quik.

BQ: What is your favorite album from Texas?
Out of all those I HIGHLY recommend Big Mello: Bone Hard Zaggin. Dope.
Johnny Blaze: Yeah, definitely check out Bone Hard Zaggin, Mr. Scarface Is Back, The Diary, We Can’t Be Stopped first and see how that goes. The production is old-school southern Texas style, nothing like the east or west…
s. perrotta – sense makes dollas: Yeah I know, sometimes it gets boring to hear the same thing over and over in this section, wu-tang, nas, mobb deep… and yeah I agree Wegonefunkwichamind is dope. I just mentioned these because I felt most people here would like it, and another two of my favorites is 1989: Willie D – Controversy & 1991: O.G. Style – I Know How to Play ‘Em to add to your list…

I’ve got to say – it is hella refreshing to know that someone on here likes early 90s southern hip-hop…

Rap-A-Lot has spawned a lot of great rappers and has an unbelievable back-catalogue of albums – the label has stood the test of time incredibly well and although its well past its peak and influence, its still one of the great hip-hop logos and was crucial in giving southern hip-hop a regional platform to build on – and definitely proved, at least in the long run, that there was more to the south than Bass music…
The label branched out a lot with west coast and midwest acts which I think is notable, and is probably one of the reasons why acts like E-40 and Spice 1 collaborated with so many southern artists and helped promote and expand the south’s appeal…

Geto Boys and Scarface go without saying…

Convicts never did that much for me personally – they had some decent tracks and a great gimmick, but I can’t help but lump into a pile of solid but unremarkable Houston groups like and Too Much Trouble and Trinity Garden Cartel…

I’ve been throwing out Ganksta N-I-P’s Interview With A Killa on a lot of horrorcore-oriented questions and he’s an incredibly underrated rapper skill-wise as well and his debut has stood the test of time well – the southern equivalent of Esham if anything…

Wegonefunkwichamind is my personal favorite of Big Mello’s though – that album is not far away from classic status and epitomises southern g-funk at its finest – raw grooves with deep vocals and lumbering basslines…

Meanwhile Seagram’s probably the closest the west has come to Big L – without the relentless punchlines – his shit was unbelievably raw and The Ville is classic Bay Area shit… the Bay has a plethora of great 90s rappers that never quite got their dues and Sea is definitely one of them…

A few others that would fall into your category…

Blac Monks – Secrets Of The Hidden Temple
Coop MC – Currency
DMG – Rigormortiz
E.S.G. – Sailin’ Da South
5th Ward Boyz – Rated G
Snypaz – Livin’ In The Scope
The Terrorists – Terror Strikes: Always Bizness, Never Personal
Willie D – Play Witcha Mama

BQ: Probably Devin the Dude’s To Tha X-Treme – the production was perfect and its definitely his most varied in terms of subject matter… He’s just so entertaining to listen to and all of his albums have a degree of nostalgia in that they’re really fun and lighthearted but still offer some deep material…

Is it free to research records at the New York Archives?

September 9th, 2011 4 comments

Can I just walk into the New York Archives and look through records (census, birth, death, marriage) of my ancestors? I wanna see these records in person instead of online on Ancestry.com. And possibly find ones that aren’t on the site.
What exactly is microfilm?

I can tell you that you can go into the records centers in the UK and view the records for free, you have to get a CAIN card, which you get there on filling out a form proving ID and that then allows you to use the card to go in any UK archives or records center..the card is free and is normally valid for at least 5 years, they also do day cards for visiting genealogists………..I would suspect that in the US you will have a similar system, if you go onto their website and look for visiting information it should tell you on there.

Records are filmed ad put onto film or microfiche and that is what you look at.
Film is a roll of film containing the pages of the records, which you put into the film reader to view and can stop and take a photocopy of the record you want or transcribe the information.

Microfiche or fiche is the same, but looks like an index card and like a photograph negative, which you put into a fiche reader and can then view the records.

In the UK if you wish to view the real records you would write out a card, give it to the archivist and they will go and get them, you go into another room, wearing white cotton gloves which are provided you can then view the real records…..which are very useful as you can often see more information on the real records that doesn’t show on the film/fiche especially if they are poor copies and many are

On ancestry and any other website if they show images it is from the film/fiche although many are just transcriptions or collections and you are right to go and view records yourself as you will find far more there than online, not everything is online, it never will be and you have to check everything you do find online back to records anyway to prove they are correct or like may who have only ever done online searching they have no idea what is really available or if hey even have their ancestors.

http://www.familytimeline.webs.com/ this website will help with records you already have at home ( page 20) and there is some good advice…read FAQ, documents, etc also has a good link page

Issues With Future Mother-in-law and Home Situation?

September 9th, 2011 5 comments

My future mother-in-law has proven herself to be a serious problem in the past two months. She currently lives with my fiance and myself and has claimed she will be selling a few electronics we own (including a relatively large TV, an Xbox 360, and possibly our computer) using false bills of sale she obtained from my fiance’s sister, a known thief (she’s headed to court on theft charges next week). His sister’s boyfriend is a local police officer, which is the only reason why I’m worried about these "bills of sale" actually being verified.. Somehow. I’m assuming her background will work against her anyway, though.

The TV was obtained free of charge from a man/woman (the story always changes) who was going to throw it out and was my fiance’s birthday gift last year. His mother now claims she never gave it to him and is hers, and that she can "ask (insert name she thinks she "bought" the TV from here) on the phone!" The Xbox 360 I am willing to part with, as it’s difficult to determine who is the legal "owner" of it – my fiance’s friend sold it to HIM, but I’m not sure whose money he used to purchase it..

We currently live in a tiny home that his grandmother rents out and, for some reason, she will not do anything about his mother or his sister. Along with claiming everything is hers, his mother frequently complains that nobody likes her and screams at us that we hate her when we ask her to do something for herself, lives on the computer (she’s a FarmVille addict – to the extreme), insists that she never has money yet supports her smokes-like-a-chimney cigarette habit (her "only income" is food stamps!!), and blames my fiance for "everything that is wrong in her life." She also tells us to do absolutely everything for her, and my fiance complies.. Because anything else would start World War III. She is allowed to stay regardless of her behavior because she is the sole owner of a car that shouldn’t even be running – the only way for us to get to work (my fiance and I are currently at the "we have interviews" stage, however – his grandmother is currently the only one who is working). She is also chummy with the landlord, which I’m guessing is another reason why nothing is being done about her.

My fiance’s sister is a lost cause. She steals all the time, including from us. She finally got caught by an ex-boyfriend’s grandmother and has a blemish on her record. She used to beat me on a regular basis to "toughen me up" – my fiance lives in the south, and I am from Michigan. At first I simply went with it, but the "beating" escalated. A week ago, she punched me in the back and side of the head as hard as she could for saying her insults were getting repetitive, then hopped on Facebook and the phone to gab to her friends about how I deserved to die and saying I was "talking s*** about the family," using it as her excuse to her friends to have punched me. I was going to file a report, but my fiance told me they wouldn’t do anything but record that it happened. I decided it wasn’t worth it, and saved the Facebook messages just in case as well as reporting the messages to Facebook as hate speech. As far as I know, Facebook deleted the messages.

Long story short: My fiance’s mother and sister are insane, nobody will do anything about it, and I desperately want to know what my options are. I have a small amount of cash that may be enough to rent out a room from a family friend for a month, but that’s it (if it’s even agreed to). I want to ask one family friend in particular for help, but I feel it’s too much to be asking for myself AND my fiance to have a place to stay. My fiance also insists that he refuses to go to my home state because he despises my family and thinks his family will let his dogs starve to death. He’s also worried about his grandmother’s health..

Sorry about the long description..

Any help is sincerely appreciated!!
I’ve been able to convince my fiance on a few occasions to get away from their madness and go to Michigan with me, but I haven’t gathered up the courage to actually ASK someone about it. Is my situation bad enough to be able to ask without feeling like a mooch..?

I recommend that you re-read your question to yourself, and knowing all of the other background that goes along with it, ask yourself if this is really what you want for a future life?
The only thing that might have some value here would be the love, support, and commitment from your fiance. But he clearly doesn’t have your interests at heart. A man who truly loves and respects you, will also love and respect all who love you, but this guy despises your family.

I can only guess that you are holding on to some faint hope that things will somehow get better. That your fiance will one day treat you with the love and respect you deserve, and his family will suddenly stop their criminal ways. But you don’t control that.

The only thing you control is you, where you choose to live, and who you choose to spend the rest of your life with. If your fiance’s life doesn’t mesh with what you believe to be right for you, then he isn’t a good choice for a husband, or any kind of a life partner for that matter.

This man has more concern for his dogs, and his grandmother than he does for you.

I hope from that you can figure out a way to permanently separate yourself from all of this trouble. You deserve better.

Can someone help me find my bisabuelos parents names?

September 9th, 2011 3 comments

My great grandfather was Florencio Bribiesca. He was born in Penjamo, Mexico on October 28 1896. Apparently he came to America in 1917 through Texas. He had a wife whose name I dont know and a son named Antonio. Aparently she died in a car crash in Oklahoma. He lived in Texas for the most part untill the mid 1930s. He worked on the Rail Road. He married my bisabuela Cyrilla Parra in Taylor, Texas in 1929 I believe. (I dont have it right in front of me.) They had several sons: Johnny, Jose, and Gregory. Towards the end of the 1930’s he moved to Finney County, Kansas. He died there on his birthday October 28, 1991. If I can get any help Death Records or Obits I would be very thankful.

This looks like great grandfather in 1930. A bisabuela a grandparent?

Manhattan Beach Car Accident Lawyer’s Top Ten Ways Doctors Fool With You After an Auto Accident

September 4th, 2011 No comments

1. By riding into your room on a bicycle and crashing into the wall.

2. By bringing in a dog and introducing the dog as your surgeon.

3. Having a nurse give you placebos.

4. Asking you how you like your stay so far.

5. Entering your room eating pizza that makes your food look like prison food.

6. Asking what it’s worth to you to have some pizza.

7. Pretending as if you’ve been in a coma for eight years.

8. By telling you due to cost cuts, there is no more free toilet paper.

9. By telling you that your insurance company is having you moved to the bus stop.

10. By saying how much you’ll enjoy surgery.

Here are ten useful tips of advice from a car accident lawyer to follow if you have been in an accident. You can also learn more about how to handle a car accident in Manhattan Beach, or any city, by calling the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson at any of the numbers which can be found on our website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com  and learning how we can assist you.

Obviously, if you have had an accident, and you are reading all of this advice, it’s probably been at least a few days since the accident. However, if it’s only been a few hours or if you ever have another accident, here’s what you should do the next time from the start.

First, take a look around and determine if you or anyone, are hurt. If so, taking steps like trying to prevent further injury or loss of blood are the most important thing you can do. Even if some other driver caused you to be injured, it’s just good manners to help the other driver if they are hurt. They may even be so thankful that they admit their fault to you. The worst thing you can do is get angry or start a fight.

Second, make sure everyone is safe from being injured further. If you are in the middle of traffic, and you are dizzy, sit down away from traffic. If your vehicle is a traffic hazard and you have accident warning devices like flares or triangles, put them out on the road to warn other drivers and get away from the car. Let the police an other emergency personnel investigate the scene with the vehicles in place and move them more safely at a later point.

Third, call the police. Accident reports are extremely helpful if the police will do such a report. Let the police know you are injured immediately. Answer the police questions honestly. But if you are dazed or confused, let them know you need medical treatment and answer only what you feel sure about. Remember, your statements can and will be used against you if you admit fault, and it will be too late and too fishy to later say you didn’t know what you were saying at the scene. Police know that your best recollection is immediately after an accident.

Fourth, get the other driver’s information including their names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, make and model of their vehicles, license plate numbers, and their insurance company name and policy number. If there are witnesses, get their names, addresses and telephone numbers as well. If the other driver makes any admissions of fault, write those down as well.

Fifth, if you have a camera on your cell phone or in the car and you aren’t too injured, take some photos of the vehicles and the scene. If you can’t do it right away, do it after you are released from the hospital.

Sixth, if you are hurt, obtain medical treatment. Don’t decline the ambulance or hospital examination to save your insurance company money or to be stoic. Take your valuables out of your car if you can and get checked out at the hospital. If you are not hurt, don’t get treatment you don’t need. However, remember, after an accident, you may feel a rush of adrenaline that causes you to only start feeling symptoms of pain a few hours later. If you have a health plan that requires you to obtain permission first, call them and find out where you are allowed to seek treatment.

Seventh, call a good car accident lawyer as soon as you have had your initial treatment, so the attorney can gather other important evidence and prevent the insurance company from taking advantage of you and obtaining such things as recorded statements that you feel fine, when many of your symptoms have yet to manifest themselves. A good car accident lawyer can save you from making a great deal of mistakes and can shoulder much of the hassle of knowing what to do about car repairs, car rentals, medical treatment, witness statements and the like. If you think you will save money by not having an attorney, think again. A good car accident lawyer can almost always obtain much higher settlements, obtain reductions of medical bills and insurance liens and prevent you from making costly mistakes. Also, most car accident attorneys advance costs of obtaining police reports, medical records and the like and are paid and reimbursed for these costs only out of any settlement.

Eight, you will need to report the accident to your insurance company, but since they will want to take a recorded statement from you, just like any other driver’s insurance company, it’s good advice to retain an attorney first. And if the other driver did not have insurance, remember that it is your own insurance company that will be your adversary. You will also need to report the accident to the Department of Motor Vehicles and your lawyer can give you the form for this.

Ninth, do not agree to settle your claim privately with the person at fault for the accident. This almost never works out to your advantage. Don’t agree not to call the police. Police reports that determine the fault for an accident are golden. Your agreement to not involve the police only affords an opportunity for the other driver to change his story and blame you when the police will no longer investigate the accident.

Tenth, don’t pay a traffic ticket without a fight if you weren’t at fault or agree to accept a small payment for your vehicle repairs without knowing that the amount will in fact cover the cost of all the repairs.

If you’ve had a car accident in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Torrance, Carson, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Marina del Rey, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Oxnard, Cambria or San Luis Obispo, or anywhere in Southern California, we have the knowledge and resources to be your Manhattan Beach Car Accident Lawyer and your Hermosa Beach Car Accident Attorney. Be sure to hire a California law firm with auto, motorcycle, truck, bicycle, pedestrian, car, bus, train, boat and airplane accident experience, wrongful death experience and insurance law expertise who can ensure you are properly represented and get the compensation you deserve.

If you have a personal injury legal matter, a dog bite or if you’ve lost a loved one in a wrongful death accident, call the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson, or visit our website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com  and learn how we can assist you.

August,1st month without U.S killed in Iraq?

September 4th, 2011 3 comments

From http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503543_162-20100267-503543.html?tag=strip

The U.S. military has marked an inspiring landmark after almost a decade at war in Iraq; August was the first month since the U.S. invasion to topple Saddam Hussein in which no American service member died in the country.

While symbolic, a military spokesman who confirmed the tranquil August to CBSNews.com pointed out that two previous months – December 2009 and 0ctober 2010 – saw no American troops killed in action, but non-combat deaths were recorded. Non-combat deaths can be the result of anything from vehicle accidents to illness.

The New York Times reports that August owes its relatively peaceful nature in part to Iraq’s military leaders heeding pressure from Washington to more aggressively target Shiite militia’s backed by Iran.

"I think this shows how far the Iraqi security forces have come," Col. Douglas Crissman, who commands U.S. troops in southern Iraq, told the Times.

The lack of a U.S. death toll from Iraq in August comes after a particularly bloody July – when 14 U.S. troops were killed in the country.

At left: Inside the U.S. combat mission in Iraq

Thursday’s news will come as welcome support for the Obama administration at it continues withdrawing troops from Iraq, but Iraqis themselves may take less heart.

"Iraq remains an extraordinarily dangerous place to work," Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction Stuart W. Bowen Jr. concluded in a report issued to Congress just one month ago.

"It is less safe, in my judgment, than 12 months ago," said Bowen, citing the resurgent Shiite militias and the deaths of 15 U.S. soldiers in June, the bloodiest month the U.S. military had experienced in Iraq in two years.

Some 46,000 U.S. troops remain in Iraq, and President Obama declared the combat mission there officially over one year ago, but that announcement was slightly misleading.

"U.S. aircraft still conduct strikes against targets that threaten American forces, U.S. Special Operations forces still conduct night raids with Iraqi commandos, and although the U.S. Army brigades in Iraq are officially called ‘advise and assist’ brigades, they are still fully prepared for combat," noted CBS News national security correspondent David Martin.

U.S. combat mission in Iraq only over on paper
Iraq official says U.S. help needed beyond 2011
White House offers to keep 10,000 troops in Iraq

The U.S. military in Baghdad did not provide any reasoning for the zero U.S. death toll in August when asked by CBSNews.com.

August was also Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, during which most Muslims fast during the daylight hours.

CBS News correspondent Mandy Clark reported this week from Kabul that U.S. forces in that country also experienced a less violent August, relative to previous months.

A devastatingly successful Taliban attack on a single U.S. Chinook helicopter, which alone killed 30 American troops, greatly skewed the death toll in Afghanistan for August, but Clark says Ramadan was a contributing factor for keeping the ground combat otherwise slower in August.

What do you think about this?
I mean, by President’s Obama point of view we are NOT in Iraq anymore.
@Dosia

30 US Troops,25 SEALs and 7 afghan soldiers.

But i’m talking about Iraq.

BUT!!!!! 66 troops have been killed this month alone, making it the deadliest month ever. How is that good?!

If your son or loved one was beaten to death by 5 or 6 Fullerton police officers what would you do?

September 4th, 2011 4 comments

In Fullerton California, you saw our police officers beating a man to death. This mayor and police chief?
The mayor should be replaced, the police chief should be fired and the police officers who did this should be brought up on murder charges. What is it going to take for the people of fullerton california to stop this?
What?
Demand to see this video tape, you have the right and you control who is elected into office. Will it be your son or loved one next.
I’ve been watching this case very closely ever since I heard about it, and I am completely outraged and disgusted by what happened. Those cops MURDERED Kelley Thomas, and yes they must be charged and prosecuted for murder. I saw the video that someone recorded at the bus station, and hearing him scream for his dad while the cops were beating him to death absolutely broke my heart. I’ve also seen the picture of him in the hospital, and now I wish I hadn’t. That is the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen. It literally made me sick, and I had trouble sleeping after seeing it. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get that image out of my mind. No human being could ever say that was justified, in any circumstance. Those cops meant to kill him.

An anonymous informant from the Fullerton Police Department who called a radio station (KFI 640) said a camera in the parking lot recorded a clear video of the entire thing, from beginning to end, and there was actually a live feed of it into the police station. A dispatcher saw it while it was happening and they zoomed in, and apparently even they were shocked. The informant said that one of the officers (whose name is Jay Cicinelli) is the main culprit and is seen beating Kelley on the head with the back of a tazer while he was already on the ground and was not moving. Another cop tried to handcuff Kelley, but he had to back off because of the blood spraying from Kelley’s head! The informant himself said that it looked like murder to him.

Kelley Thomas’ dad is a retired Sheriff. He said what happened was the cops murdered him out of revenge. The cops even have a name for it, "Contempt of Cop." The father has intimate knowledge of this since he himself was a cop at one time.

This is not an isolated incident. I have read about many other incidents of excessive force and abuse from the Fullerton Police Department. The entire police department has gone rogue, and it should be disbanned, period. They should ALL be fired – the officers, administrators, the chief, everyone. It should be taken over by the Sheriff’s or an outside state or federal agency.

By the way, the names of the cops who murdered Kelley Thomas have been circulated all over the internet. Here they are:

Jay Cicinelli
Kenton Hampton
Manny Ramos
Joe Wolfe
James Blatney

They MUST be charged with murder. The Orange County District Attorney and the FBI are investigating. The public is furious and this could explode at any moment. I heard on the news last night that cops who were named have been personally getting death threats and some of them have even moved into hotel rooms. I say GOOD! They should be afraid. I don’t want anything to happen to their families, but they themselves deserve whatever happens to them. If those cops aren’t charged with murder, the public is going to snap and there is a very real danger of vigilante justice. They just might be safer in jail.

He was homeless and mentally challenged. I wouldn’t let my loved one who is mentally challenged and homeless to live in such conditions. I would sue them and help press charges.
