For people who hated the Percy Jackson flim (Everyone nearly then)?

July 26th, 2011 5 comments

It doesn’t matter if you have read the (awesome)books or not as I have a list here! Well the flim had left everything out that was any good, do you think if they had everything in from the books it would have been better? Here is the list

There are some huge differences and minor differences. Such as:

– The novel starts with Percy at boarding school, not with Zeus and Poseidon talking about the thief.

– Annabeth and Percy are 12 in the novel (the reason for the change is stated in an earlier question).

– Medusa is killed by looking into a crystal ball (once or twice Percy’s sword), not by looking on the back of an iPod.

– Hades does not want the bolt, though he is suspected throughout the novel, but it is revealed he just wants his missing helm back, which Luke stole along with the lightning bolt, and which Ares confiscated and hid in order to take advantage of a war between Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon.

– There is a party on Olympus after the bolt is returned.

– The Hydra is not in this novel, neither is Nashville. Instead, the three go to St. Louis, and while in the Gateway Arch, the Chimera and Echidna attack Percy alone, leading to an explosion. However, the Hydra appeared at the second novel of the book series, The Sea of Monsters and instead of fire, the creature spits acid.

– The pearls are not a major part in the book. Percy falls from the St. Louis tower in the novel and falls into the Mississippi River, where he meets a water nymph who tells him of the pearls. He goes to Santa Monica to retrieve them.

– They go to Aunty Em’s in the novel due to an attracting aroma, not to find a pearl.

– Ares plays a major role against the trio in the novel, often trying to make their quest fail. In a scene cut from the film, much like the novel, Ares picks them up from the diner and takes them away, gives them supplies and clues on how to get where they want to go. He is tricking them, however, and Percy has to fight Ares in L.A.

– The book has the entrance to the Underworld in the fictional DOA Records building, not the Hollywood sign.

– In the book, they don’t drive to Las Vegas, they hide in an 18-wheeler, where they are with abused zoo animals. It’s there Percy learns he can talk to horses (Poseidon is the God of Horses).

– Percy is at camp a week before playing Capture the Flag, not a day.

– Camp Half Blood in the novel has separate cabins for each god, excluding the minor gods and Hades where it was largely elaborated and has different themes base on the what the god is known for. Percy has a very large Poseidon cabin all to himself for the first book.

– It’s not mentioned in the film, but Annabeth is never very trustworthy with Percy at the beginning, as Athena and Poseidon have a rivalry from centuries ago.

– Annabeth is blonde in the book.

– Luke, Annabeth, and Thalia, a daughter of Zeus (mentioned in a deleted scene), were friends from an early age, and lived on the streets and fought of monsters. They eventually arrive at Camp Half Blood, where they are being chased by multiple monsters. Thalia’s protector is Grover as well, and she decides to stay behind and fight so the rest can get to safety. She is injured to the point of likely death, and Zeus takes pity on her and transforms her into a Pine Tree, who now guards the the camp and provides a "shield" from monsters. Annabeth also harbors feelings for Luke for the entire series.

– Percy and Annabeth meet in the infirmary (this was originally in the film, though cut)

– The flying shoes Luke gives Percy are cursed in the book, and Percy never uses them. Zeus hates Percy, as he is the son of Poseidon, and so Percy can’t use them, because if he flies, Zeus can strike him down for going into his domain. He gives the shoes to Grover, and while in the underworld, the shoes try to drag him down to Tartarus.

– There are "Iris Messages" half bloods use, where through water and mist, they offer coins to Iris, the Goddess of rainbows, and with this they can communicate with anyone they need to, and they use this several times.

– Persephone is not in the novel, as it is summer, and in mythology, she would be with Demeter, her mother.

– Annabeth is on Percy’s team in capture the flag.

– Camp characters, such as Clarisse, daughter of Ares, Beckendorf, son of Hephaestus, Selina Beauregard, daughter of Aphrodite, Connor and Travis Stoll, twin sons of Hermes, etc. are excluded in the film.
Zeus never says that the gods are forbidden to see their children in the novel because the gods become too "human," but only the big three can’t have children (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades), because their children are too powerful. After WW II, this was proclaimed. Roosevelt was a child of Poseidon, Churchill a child of Zeus, Hitler and Stalin children of Hades. It is an ancient guideline that the gods are not allowed to be involved directly in the battles of their children. Also, they cannot play favorites with any of their children (though on his fifteenth birthday, Poseidon does tell Percy that he is his favorite child), which is why the gods and goddesses do not see their children often. There is also the fact that these children were brought up by their mortal parents, and some (like Mrs. Jackson) probably did not want to involved their children in the life expected for a hero.

– Luke claims in the movie he never met his father. In the book series Hermes is well aware of Luke and ev

Poseidon has many more kids, some that Percy even meets and comes across in the series.

– The gods aren’t British in the novel. It can be assumed their accents change wherever they go to whatever they want.

– In the novel they don’t drive around the country. They find other ways around, using buses, walking, getting rides, or in one case, hopping in the back of an animal-smuggling truck (there Percy learns he can talk to horses).

– Capture the Flag isn’t nearly as brutal in the book. Chiron states "No killing or maiming allowed!" (to the displeasure of the Ares cabin), and while you could get injured, cut and bleed, Chiron, let alone the other campers, would not have tolerated nearly killing Percy for fun. It was Clarisse, not Annabeth, who inured him in the novel anyway.

– Over the series, Percy has to train to become a great sword fighter. It doesn’t come naturally.

– The entire layout of Camp Half-Blood is different. It is located in a field on Long Island, not in the middle of

You’re right. The movie really stinks. Although, i gotta admit – Logan Lerman was really hot. Among all other things they took out from the book, they even removed the Oracle! For crying out loud, people, where’s the Great Prophecy? What’s the point of the whole movie if that’s not included? I’m so sorry for Rick.

How do I look at online records without having to pay at all for them?

March 15th, 2011 1 comment

I’m doing family history research, and I’ve been trying to look up birth, death, marriage, etc records. Every site I go to you have to pay SOMETHING for them. I want FREE online records that I can look at ONLINE without having to pay or get them shipped to my house.

My Mom said to look at court houses, but I can’t find our court houses online.
I live in Mississippi, but I’m looking for records in Pemiscot County of Missouri. That’s where most of my family moved to in the 1900’s on my Dad’s side. On my Mom’s side, I have no clue. Probably Tennessee because they were full Cherokee Indians. And she is half Cherokee Indian.

My Great Aunt has done my Dad’s side of the familys history all the way back to before the civial war, but she’s too picky to share with me any of it.

Anyway, if anyone knows a completely free website where you can look at ONLINE records, then please tell me. And remember NO PAYMENTS. NONE. lol. Most people that answer me always give me a website and they still have some kind of a payment on there. And I don’t want to have to pay anything at all.

There is a site called Heritage Quest that is completely free, but you must get the access code from your public library. Call the library and ask if they subscribe to Heritage Quest and how to access it. You do this online from home, but most libraries require you to have a library card to get the access code.

are birth and death certificate’s public record in the state of Mississippi?

Can anyone get a copy of a birth/death certificate?

Yes and yes. Some states actually have websites you can get these from. Check the website for the Recorder for the county in which the birth/death occurred.

Mo. town outraged over killings, illegal immigrant

HANNIBAL, Mo. – A Hannibal police officer was finishing up mundane paperwork on a quiet Saturday morning when Manuel Cazares walked into the station, blood splattered on his hands and shoes.

Cazares put his hands out, crossed them, and told the officer to arrest him.

"I killed two people," he allegedly said.

Details surrounding the allegations are far too common: an abusive relationship, a jilted lover, a sudden attack.

But some in this Mississippi River community of 17,000 best known as Mark Twain’s hometown aren’t just outraged by the violence. They also question why Cazares was in Hannibal at all.

Cazares admitted after his arrest that he is an illegal immigrant from the Mexican state of Michoacan. The 32-year-old had several run-ins with law enforcement before the homicides, but officials had never questioned his legal status.

Now he is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Feb. 28 deaths of his ex-girlfriend, 27-year-old Amanda Thomas, and 25-year-old Carl Patrick Epley.

"I don’t know how this happens," said Tina White-Masengill, Thomas’ sister. "My stepdad told police many times, ‘I don’t even think the guy’s a legal citizen.’"

During his three years in Hannibal, Cazares managed to avoid detection, despite a few traffic violations and a property damage conviction after an arrest for allegedly beating up Thomas and tearing up her home. Thomas had a restraining order against Cazares, who got probation in the property-damage case.

Police say his name wasn’t in a database maintained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Police and Cazares’ boss also say he had authentic-looking identification, including a Social Security card. And police noted that Cazares speaks fluent English.

Cazares’ attorney did not return phone messages seeking comment. Cazares is being held in lieu of $1 million bond.

Hannibal police declined several interview requests from The Associated Press, but said soon after the killing that they had received several angry calls, some with racial overtones.

Days after the killings, rocks were thrown through plate-glass windows at the Mexican restaurant where Cazares worked. The FBI decided against opening a hate-crime investigation after concluding that it was vandalism, not retaliation.

Hundreds of messages related to the case were posted on the Hannibal Courier-Post Web site, with several questioning why authorities hadn’t been able to determine Cazares’ legal status before. One suggested police should conduct raids to seek out other illegal immigrants.

"Of course we have folks who say that’s unconstitutional and racial profiling so we have to ignore the problem until this sort of terrible tragedy takes place," the posting read. The newspaper eventually took down the postings.

At a news conference, police Capt. James Hark told reporters that tracking illegal immigrants is a federal responsibility. He said the department is sympathetic to the victims’ families, "but, in retrospect, there’s nothing in the system that would have prevented this from happening."

ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok said the agency seeks to work closely with local police to uncover illegal immigrants.

"When local law enforcement suspect that they have arrested an illegal alien on criminal charges, we encourage them to forward those suspicions to ICE, where we will make the appropriate determination whether that person is in the country legally or illegally, and whether he is deportable," Rusnok said.

The relationship between Cazares and Thomas had long been rocky, with Thomas seeking restraining orders in 2007 and again early last year. Marion County prosecutor Tom Redington said the first order was dismissed when Thomas failed to appear at a court hearing; the second was dismissed at her request.

Thomas made a third attempt around Thanksgiving and obtained a restraining order that was supposed to keep Cazares away from the small brick duplex where she lived with their 20-month-old son and a 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Yet neighbors said they often saw Cazares in the area.

"We pulled up one night and he drives up the street with his car lights off and just sits there watching her house," said neighbor Charles Thomas, who is not related to the victim.

In early February, Thomas told police she thought Cazares was stalking her. White-Masengill said her sister played cell phone messages for police, including one in which he said, "No one can love you like I do."

Redington said he didn’t have Cazares arrested immediately because of the "on-again, off-again nature of their relationship." He asked Thomas to obtain records that would show that Cazares had been calling her, but she never got the records.

According to court records, Cazares offered the following a

This kind of thing happens fairly often in California. In fact, I live in the Napa Valley where we have a very large population of illegals picking the grapes. My town alone has a population of 40% Mexican and many of them are here illegally. One winery out of over 300 here will hire only legal Mexicans. The rest hire whoever they can get. So, trust me, I know and see exactly what your talking about. BTW, your question is a little long and the last sentence should be removed since it is incomplete.

If I want to visit another country I get a passport and do it legally. I expect no less from others.

Why do most people think the Native Americans got "slaughtered"???

February 22nd, 2010 9 comments

Like the Cherokee, most tribes were isolated and with a decentralized government with allowed the British, French, Spanish, and finally the U.S. to defeat them in battle or very well lose about half a dozen wars to induce treaties like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_H…

"In his book The Wild Frontier: Atrocities during the American-Indian War from Jamestown Colony to Wounded Knee, amateur historian William M. Osborn sought to tally every recorded atrocity in the area that would eventually become the continental United States, from first contact (1511) to the closing of the frontier (1890), and determined that 9,156 people died from atrocities perpetrated by Native Americans, and 7,193 people died from those perpetrated by Europeans. Osborn defines an atrocity as the murder, torture, or mutilation of civilians, the wounded, and prisoners.[3]"

I also have counted the battles east and west of the Mississippi and the tally is something around, 8,727 (Amerindians) to 11,217 (U.S./British/French)

The area around the Great Lakes was a stalemate represented by Pontiac’s Rebellion, so I won’t go there.

The Sixty Years’ War (1754–1814) was a military struggle for control of the Great Lakes region in North America, encompassing a number of wars over several generations. The term Sixty Years’ War is not widely known, and is used primarily by academic historians who specialize in various aspects of the conflict. Traditionally, the war for control of the Great Lakes region has been written about only in reference to the individual wars; the designation Sixty Years’ War provides a framework for viewing this era as a continuous whole.

Actually, I have a lot of history books. Flames Across the Border, Pierre Berton — Dictionary of Wars: Third Edition — Stolen Continents: 500 years of Conquest and Resistance — some others at my library i read that I forget.

Anyway, I can see some of you don’t like to read books so I’ll conclude by saying, "We fought and fought like Braves to compel respect. We inflicted just as much casualties as you did us, yet the few times like the Navajo gets routed and sent far from their homeland overrides the victories of the Seminole, Chichimeca, Mapuche, Tlaxcallas, Zacateco, Guachichil, Iroquois, Comanche (who NEVER gave up their homeland to this day), and countless other tribes like us Cree and Anishnabe who hold vast amounts of land to this day. I know in my heart that, like in Europe — which was ravage to the point of 1/3 its population dying from the Plague ALONE — the Creator’s diseases is what killed my people."

It wasn’t the battles fought and lost that caused the near genocide of the first nations on Turtle Island, it was the thievery and genocidal actions of the Settler culture.

How do you feel about innocent American children becoming roadkill for illegal aliens?

Trial begins for illegal alien accused of killing Colorado toddler and two others
February 8, 10:53 PM
Francis Hernandez
Illegal alien Francis Hernandez is on trial this week in Arapahoe County District Court for an automobile crash that resulted in the deaths of three people, including a 3-year-old boy.
Francis Hernandez, faces a total of 19 charges, including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, and child abuse resulting in death.
On September 10, 2008, the parents of 3-year-old Marten Kudlis buried their son at Fairmount Cemetery, a few days earlier, he was killed while waiting for his ice cream in an Aurora Baskin and Robbins.
An SUV speeding through the intersection of Havana and Mississippi, with Guatemalan national Francis Hernandez at the wheel, slammed into a pickup truck, which was then pushed into the ice cream shop´s window. The toddler was sitting at a table in front of that window, and was sent flying as the truck came crashing through it.
Police say that Hernandez was traveling at a speed of at least 70 mph.
After the crash, police say Hernandez jumped from his Chevy Suburban and fled the scene. He was later apprehended without incident.
Marten was taken to the hospital, but died a short time later due to massive internal injuries.
The two women in the pickup truck struck by Hernandez were Patricia Guntharp, 49, and Debra Serecky, 51. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
KMGH of Denver covered the child´s funeral and reported that the first song heard during the service was Eric Clapton´s "Tears in Heaven."
In a heart wrenching display of grief and anger, Marten´s mother Marat Kudlis shouted: “That bastard!,” referring to the illegal alien believed responsible for killing her son. Between the tears, Marten´s father cried out: “I really loved him.”
The rabbi conducting the service told the heartbroken family and friends: “This burden feels like more than we can bear because it is so sudden. It´s a parent´s worst nightmare. It does not seem fair and it is not fair to lose someone so young.”
A teddy bear was placed in the tiny open casket which held Marten´s body.
Following the funeral, many of the mourners returned to the crash site, which became a makeshift memorial, filled with flowers, stuffed animals, and cards with expressions of sympathy and support for the Kudlis family.
One of those mourners, Duane Stokes, told a KMGH reporter: “I helped pull Marten out of the building. I was right there with him. He squeezed my hand. I held his hand until he passed on. My fiance and I were just saying a prayer to Marten and just getting one last glimpse of everything around here. Just to say goodbye to him.”
Marten´s death hit the community hard and his funeral was attended by many people who had never even met him, but were saddened and angered by his senseless death.
Hernandez who has 12 aliases and two dates of birth, has been arrested an astonishing 19 times since 2003. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has also, confirmed that Hernandez has been arrested by nine different police departments. Despite his lengthy arrest record and illegal status in this country, Hernandez has never been deported, nor have deportation proceedings ever been started against him.
The police report shows that after Hernandez ran from the scene, he phoned his girlfriend, Brenda Aleman, asking her to come pick him up at a local Hooter´s restaurant. The report reads: “(He) stated after the accident he was scared and fled the scene, he was afraid he would be taken to jail because he had no insurance, no driver’s license and that would prevent him from seeing his kids.”
Hernandez and Aleman have two small children.
It should be noted that the Congressional Research Service has classified both Aurora and nearby Denver, CO, as a “sanctuary cities.” The term refers to a policy taken by cities which refuse to inquire into an arrestee´s immigration status, or a refusal to inform federal authorities when a suspect in custody is believed to be or known to be an illegal alien.
Shortly after little Marten‘s death, retired Congressman (R-CO) and former presidential candidate Tom Tancredo said that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, as well as Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter "have blood on their hands."
While both Hickenlooper and Ritter have long been criticized for their opposition to enforcement of our immigration laws, Gov. Ritter tried to deflect any attention from his office onto the federal government and called Tancredo´s comments “out of bounds.”
In response, Tancredo issued the following statement: “While it might be politically expedient to blame Washington for what happened this week or to characterize my criticism of him as ´out of bounds,´ the fact remains that Gov. Ritter is in charge of enforcing and keeping Coloradans safe. It´s time for Gov. Ritter to take concrete steps to ensure that illegal aliens like Francis Hernandez, who had been apprehended by p
It´s time for Gov. Ritter to take concrete steps to ensure that illegal aliens like Francis Hernandez, who had been apprehended by police more than a dozen times, end up behind bars, not back behind the wheel.”
How many more of our children will have to die before our border and our laws are taken seriously by those sworn to defend both?

I don’t’ condone violence, but I have to agree with Weird Al. Whatever it takes to wake these people up to reality. If it ever happens to me or mine, watch out. The fallout will be loud and long.

People who enter another country should respect that country and it’s laws. If you really want to stay and thrive, you need to live a good life and contribute. People who come and violate laws and harm people do not deserve any chance what so ever. There is no way in H*LL we should be forced to be victims of crime committed by illegal aliens.

How many more tragedies like this need to occur before Americans finally hold illegal alien sanctuary cities responsible for their neglect?
Lord have mercy. One of the victims was a 3-year-old child enjoying ice cream at Baskin-Robbins:

As new questions arose about the man police say is responsible for the tragedy, several hundred friends and relatives gathered Saturday night outside an ice cream shop to mourn three lives suddenly lost.

“It hurts now,” said Vito Kudlis, surrounded by friends as he and his wife, Enely, wept for their 3-year-old son, Marten. “It is freaky. It is crazy.”

Marten, Patricia Guntharp, 49, of Centennial and Debra Serecky, 51, of Aurora all died when a Thursday night collision caused vehicles to careen into the Baskin-Robbins at the corner of South Havana Street and East Mississippi Avenue.

Saturday night, they were remembered in a candlelight vigil. Small children held glow sticks as others added stuffed animals — especially bears — to a memorial.

Francis Hernandez, the man being held for suspicion of vehicular homicide in the deaths, is now being detained by federal immigration officials.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials sent a faxed detainer on Hernandez, 23, at 12:04 a.m. Saturday, indicating his U.S. citizenship is under question, according to Arapahoe County jail officials and federal authorities.

Hernandez has been arrested 16 times in five years in Colorado but apparently has never been deported, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.

We the People have the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The “sanctuary enablers” are denying us those liberties because they have chosen to disregard the laws of our country. Those enablers must be held responsible for their actions. If they are unwilling to uphold the laws they should be removed from office and considered as an accessory to this carnage.

Is it me, and I might sound crazy, or does Auburn’s schedule have them set up to go 12-0?

I’m not being biased, I’m just thinking…
We open with LTU, Mississippi State, and Ball State at home all seeming like automatic wins. West Virginia has to come to the Plains for the game this year. Say they win that at Night on National TV. They beat Ball State afterwards, they’re 4-0. Auburn has a winning record all-time in Neyland Stadium and has won 2 straight at Tennessee, 4 overall. If they beat Tennessee on the road, they’re 5-0. Then they go to Arkansas. Auburn has a 4-game winning streak at Arkansas and they’re looking for revenge over a team they shouldn’t have lost to last year. 6-0. Then we host Kentucky. 7-0. So we’re 7-0 and clinching a bowl. We have a great staff. Maybe the best in college football. Then we go to LSU. If we were good enough to win those 7 games, and LSU seems like they’re not what they used to be, and Death Valley has seemed to have lost it’s magic. So if Auburn beats LSU, we’re 8-0. Then we host Ole Miss. If they’re overrated and the game’s at Auburn, the Tigers can win. 9-0. We play Furman. 10-0.
Then we go to rival UGA and host Alabama.
I’m just saying, this schedule fits with our talent, our great coaches, and the fact we’re under-the-radar. Plus, Bama came out of nowhere last year and did the same, so don’t use "They sucked last year" as a reason we won’t be able to go 12-0.

I’m not saying we’re going 12-0, I highly doubt we’ll win 9 games, but think about the schedule. We only have 4 road games (Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, UGA) and 2 of our toughest opponents come to Auburn. With a good schedule, do you think Auburn has any shot to go 12-0 if they surprise some people? They will surprise some people, but 12-0 isn’t going to happen. But can it?

I want your opinion on my theory.
Let me point out again that Saban had a winning percentage of 30% at Miami and Bama stunk in 2007 and went unbeaten in 2008. what shot does Gene Chizik (with Gus Malzahn, Ted Roof and Tracy Rocker) have of erasing the 5-19 from everyone’s minds and going 12-0?
Aww, C’mon JoePa. lol I can take some trash talk. I’m just asking if it’s in the realm of possibility. Bama went from 6 wins to 12. The reason Auburn can’t go from 5 to 12 with a great staff and underrated players is beyong myself. lol
Philip, you people make out the Auburn AD to be worse than it really is. Tubberville wasn’t fired, he resigned, and Chizik got rid of everybody left.
I know you’re not, I was just throwing it out there. And if we have the luck of last year’s team, we’ll see you in that Gator Bowl. lol
UCLA fan: You purposely meant to get all those facts wrong, didn’t you. UGA doesn’t always beat us (Auburn is 53-50 against UGA and has a 75% winning percentage in Athens). The road team always wins UGA-AU. And Les Miles flashed his brilliance late in the game against Bama last year. NOT. I’m not SAYING they’re going 12-0, do some of you even read what I type up there? I just said don’t count out Auburn. They’ve always been good as an under-the-radar team.

Ha .. ha .. ha .. ha ..

Which answer do you want?

The one that reinforces your fantasy?

The one that brings you back down to earth with a lot of truth and realism in it?

Ok .. I’ll give you something you and I both can live with.

GEORGIA beats Auburn … Period. With that loss your season is over.

Ray says : You Got The Wrong Genes … Baby!"

Norry baby!? Was it something I said??? (smiling) You People!? Where’d that come from?!?

I said nothing about the Auburn AD or Tommy Tubberville and I don’t have a problem with Gene Chizik.

I just don’t think you cats have a frozen snowballs chance in Helsinki of going undefeated. Your school is in transition. You got a good minute or two before you get good again.

Oh … yeah! I strongly dispute the 53 Auburn wins versus 50 losses. Right now the record is identical at 49 an 49 and even though the away team has won the majority of games in opponents stadium it’s more like 60% right now for Auburn. but Georgia has won the last 3 contests so that evens it up. I will forgive you on the 53 and 50 numbers. Here’s the link :
