Help leaving an abusive husband?

March 27th, 2011 7 comments

First let me say that Ive created this account in case someone out there has an idea I havent thought of. Its humbling to put my story out there, but I need help, so Im asking. The short version is as follows: Im 30 years old, well educated, and a very sweet woman. I lost both of my parents before I was 18 and they were really my only family to speak of. I lived alone, independently for many years until I met my husband, who was a good man, in the beginning. I wouldnt mention this if it was pertinent to the story but he is foreign, it doesnt matter from where, but his nationality has a strong history of treating women poorly. I didnt know a lot about it before I married him and certainly didnt think he would ever treat me badly. I married him 5 years ago and welcomed a baby into the world just over a year ago. Since Ive been married things have gotten worse and worse. He only speaks in his native tongue when his family is over, no one speaks to me at all, all phone calls are private. They make my daughter participate in their cultural traditions(ie: cutting her hair and feeding her food items not approved for infants) against my objection. When I say anything, Im yelled at, pushed out of the way, ignored for days on end, not invited to holidays. Ive been thrown to the ground, pushed and slapped across the face once (breaking my glasses), but never full on hit. Most of my abuse has been verbal – threats, general mistreatment, name calling, yelling, slamming doors, etc. The largest problem is, I feel stuck in a situation I cannot escape from. I lost my job 2 years ago and then suffered a difficult pregnancy (no doubt due to the stress). I began seeking employment after my daughter was 3 months old, but to no avail. I used to hold a high level professional position (I have a college degree), however, in this economy (Michigan)…no one is calling me back. My husbands bad decisions created a situation where we had to file for bankruptcy together (recently), so now I no longer have credit available to me, combined with the failure to find work opportunities, and I have no where to go. If my parents were alive they would certainly help me escape this situation. But I have no one. Regardless, I MUST figure something out for me and my daughter. I need the following (as far as I can tell): a job, a place to live that I can afford, child care (right now shes always with me or my husbands mother), a court order granting me primary custody of our daughter (Id be scared to death to let him take her even on weekends, but Im sure I cannot prevent it). I dont know how to get any of these things without a job. Id divorce him tomorrow if I could (can I hire a lawyer with his money b/c we have a joint bank accnt? what can I do for safety after he finds out I filed? Where would I live? Do I get custody until its all figured out?). He constantly threatens that without a job no judge will grant me any kind of custody of a child because I have nothing to offer her (which I dont, but with me shes safe!) He has had his criminal record wiped clean (all "I know a guy who took care of me" kinda thing) except a drunk driving charge; everyone knows how he is, but no one would dare say anything. Hes a bad man. This situation is getting worse every day. Iam terrified more every day as my daughter gains recognition of daily life, that she will see our life and think this is an acceptable way to be treated. Ive lost my ability to teach her well and offer her a childhood free of stress, yelling and tears. Im in an awful, and as far as I can tell inescapable, situation. Does anyone out there have any real ideas for me? Something has to change and soon…Im was a good person but Im breaking, even my health has suffered terribly. Im nearing 100lbs, Im 5’6", I cant eat b/c Im so nervous all the time. Every day once he goes to work my beautiful daughter and I laugh and play, and as the clock creeps to when he’ll come home I feel my stomach tighten and my nerves are so bad my hands start to shake. I dont have anyone I can tell, everyone I know is a family member or friend of his and they wouldnt think anything of it. This is just how people live in their culture. Plus, Im scared of him, and my home is laced with weapons (not where my girl could reach). My spirit is so broken at this point that I wouldn’t even care if he killed me, but my daughter needs me, Im all she has. She has NO IDEA what an insane life Ive brought her into, and if I can help it, shell never have to know to its full extent. And if I could get away, I could get my life back. I dont deserve this, I have the biggest heart and Ive been taking care of others all my life, but I cant even take care of my own child. What can I do, anyone? Plz do not say call the police . Understand what Ive written, I cant do something radical, and I wont do anything to jeopardize being with my baby, or place us in danger. I need a plan and one I can actua

You could easily get up early tomorrow a.m. & go to your local Family Court. They WILL take care of you by telling you what to do etc. If needs be, there also is a Judge who presides over this court all day every day. This is rite where I’d head as early as I could to make sure you get taken care of tomorrow. I have resorted to using my own local Family Court due to domestic violence so I KNOW they do care, they WILL help you the best they can. You can trust them to take your well being in total concern. I KNOW that’s what I’d do & feel it’s the best for you too….I SO wish you the best, honey. Things will work out for the best for you & the baby. Give them a chance to help you. BTW, I would take a bit of money out of your joint act. Don’t take too much, but DO take some just in case!..:)

Where is Leo Alfred Myers in 1910?

March 27th, 2011 2 comments

Leo Alfred Myers was born 22 Feb 1890 in Illinois. I have found him in 1900, 1920, 1930. I have his death record and his WWI Draft card. (Where he said 22 Feb 1885). I can’t find him in 1910. He may have been married by then; he may not. His first wife, Anna Mae/Fay Leslie, inconveniently died from complications of childbirth in 1929.

1900, Little Rock Ward 8, Pulaski, Arkansas:
Meyers, Alfred, head, Nov 1856, 43, Mich, Ohio, Ohio, tailor
Meyers, Lizzie, wife, May 1867, 33, Ind, Ireland, NY
Meyers, Leo, son, Feb 1890, 10, Ill, Mich, Ind <<<<<
Meyers, Parmer, son, Oct 1894, 15, Miss, Mich, Ind
Meyers, Jacob L, son, May 1897, 3, Miss, Mich, Ind

1920, Oakland, Alameda, California
Myers, Leo A, head, 35, Ill, Mich, Ind, machinist, shipyard
Myers, Anna F, wife, 26, Missouri, Ill, Ill
Note he’s still telling the world he was b. 1885, not 1890.

Widowed Leo Sr.:
1930, Township 11, Kern, California:
Meyers, Leo, head, Widowed, 40, Ill, Mich, Ind, engineer, shovel
Leo was 20 at first marriage

Semi-orphaned Leo Jr:
1930, Redwood City, San Mateo, California:
Brown, William, head, 64, Ky, Ky, Ky, electrician, dredging Co
Brown, Ann E, wife, 63, Indiana, N, Ireland, NY
Myers, Leo A, gr-son, 6/12, Calif, Ill, Kentucky

William Brown is Ann Elizabeth McCartney’s second husband. Ann’s first husband was Alfred Myers, who we saw in 1900. Ann uses Ann, Anne, Annie, Elizabeth and Lizzie as her whimsy strikes her, the wild fey creature.

Anna Mae/Fay Leslie says she is b. Missouri in 1920. The informant then was probably her husband or her. Her son’s 1930 says she was b. in Kentucky. The 1930 informant is probably her mother-in-law or her step-father-in-law. I’m thinking Missouri is the right one. The 1910, if I’m l’m lucky, will confirm one or the other; it may say Ohio or Arkansas, too.

Enlisted in the Army Nov 1 1907 at McDowell (Fort), CA by Lt Caswell in San Francisco, CA for 3 yrs as Leo A Myers born Chicago IL age 22 yr 8 mos occ: Rodman 6th Cav Co K and discharged Oct 31 1910 Ft Des Moines Iowa, Exp ser Sargt very good solider.

Could Terri Jones be Held Liable if He Causes Harm?

Is the Proposed Koran Burning a Mass Tort? Could there be Liability if Harm Occurs?
This looks a lot like a slow motion disaster in the making.

Terry Jones, the pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Florida who is at the center of the Koran uproar, has so far resisted calls to cancel the bonfire.

President Obama and Eric Holder feel that there’s absolutely nothing they can do, apart from giving speeches, of course.

They have mis-interpreted the First Amendment, contrary to 230 years of US law, which is available in all law libraries. They feel that the First Amendment gives everybody an absolute right to say anything they want any time they want anywhere they want. They have decided to utterly disregard hundreds of Supreme Court cases that say that freedom of speech is limited (like every other right in the Bill of Rights).

One man’s right to free speech ends when that speech is highly likely to cause death or great bodilty harm to another person. Gen. Petraeus is on record in sworn testimony before the Congress that death or great bodily harm is the likely consequence of Terri Jones proposed speech act.

And yet the spineless, wormlike, Jellywaggle Blancmange Obamination — who has never seen any evil anywhere that he was willing to stand up to, says that he and Eric Holder’s hand are tied, there’s not a thing they can do — no injunction — no restraining order — not a thing — they are helpless.

Does that mean that every tort lawyer in the world is also helpless — and will be completely passive and inert if Terri Jones does his act and harm actually ensues.

See, then it’s not a First Amendment issue. The First Amendment is about prior restraint by the Federal government, not about tort suits brought after harm has been done by private tort lawyers.

Terri Jones and his Church and possibly his congregation members who participate in his act might very well be liable in civil law for all deaths and injuries that occur as proximate results of the proposed Koran burning. If a jury is satisfied that act A caused result B, and that result B was a clearly foreseeable consequence of act A, and that harm was done, then liability can be imposed as a matter of civil law. It’s called a mass tort — where a lot of people are hurt from a single act done by a single party — Terri Jones and his Church.

I think there’s also a case for damages based on the costs of increased security precautions that had to be put in place as a proximate result of the conduct of Terri Jones. So it’s like the Balloon Boy situation. One person causes a costly mass alarm that imposes otherwise unecessary costs on officials and law enforcement and security professionals.

Between these two torts Terri Jones will be out of business.

I think there’s also a Federal law that prevents malfeasors from profiting from book deals they make based on their bad acts. There may be a Florida law as well.

The fact that the President is a Jellywaggle Blancmange does not mean that Terri Jones is completely beyond the reach of American and world justice.

If the bad act is done the bad Karma will come to Terri Jones. I speak as a former member of the American Trial Lawyers Association (now retired).

We are not helpless.

We are not spineless.

When we see evil, we do something about it.
To the many out there who simply have no idea what the First Amendment protects, I have this question:

If Terri Jones shouted "Fire!" in a crowded theatre, when there was no fire, would his speech be protected by the First Amendment in your opinion?

Do you feel that the Supreme Court of the United States, in 100 opinions dating back 70 years, might possibly know more about the First Amendment, and what it protects, than you do based on Civics 101 that you slept through in High School?

Doh!

I would not allow him to get to that point, This would all be long over. My deputy’s would have already handled the
matter to my request, And we would be doing what we
are paid to do. Which is to continue to protect and serve.

registering inherited firearm in California?

March 27th, 2011 1 comment

I live in California and recently found in my deceased father’s belongings, that were given to me, a handgun. I know it’s legal and registered under his name. How do I register it under my name? The only thing I’m worried about is questions on why I didn’t register it sooner. However, I just found it a few days ago. I never even knew I had it. I’ve never gone through my father’s stuff after he passed.

Do I need to go to the shop he bought it from? the court house? Do I need a copy of his death certificate? I’m not sure how to go about this. I have a clean record and nothing should prevent me from owning a firearm. I have the serial number too.

You do need a copy of his death certificate and if it was left in a will a copy of that, but go to the local police department and they will have a form for you to transfer ownership.

in the missouri database

The website is http://www.sos.mo.gov/mdh/ ; http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/birthdeath/
and you select Missouri Birth and Death Records, pre 1910 or Missouri Death Certificate, 1910-1958 records and then you would just type in the name you are looking for…and you should also try spelling variations.

If you can’t find what you are looking for post it here and someone will see if they can find it…everything may not be there.

What will it take for our government to finally secure our nation’s borders, especially the border that is?

March 24th, 2011 3 comments

What will it take for our government to finally secure our nation’s borders, especially the border that is supposed to separate the United States from Mexico?
Forty-eight Americans were murdered in Mexico during the first six months of 2010 – a deadly pace that appears likely to exceed any previous year of homicides on record, according to a Houston Chronicle analysis of the U.S. State Department’s death registry.

The tally doesn’t include two Texans reported killed Sept. 30 in separate incidents in isolated areas of Tamaulipas, where the terrorist group known as the Zetas has been warring with their Gulf Cartel rivals in communities all along the southeast Texas border.

A college freshman from Brownsville, Jonathon William Torres Cazares, was shot and killed after authorities say his public bus got hijacked on a highway in Tamaulipas.

"He was 18 years old and traveling in Mexico visiting his family," according to a statement issued by Leticia "Letty" Fernandez, a spokeswoman for the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. "Our thoughts go out to his family and friends."

Meanwhile, David Michael Hartley, 30, of McAllen, was reported to have been shot in the head by a boatload of armed men while jet skiing on the Mexican side of the binational Falcon Reservoir, shared by Texas and Tamaulipas. His body has not yet been recovered.

State Department data shows at least three other Americans were slain this year in Tamaulipas. But no details were available. In much of Tamaulipas, the news media are no longer reporting on crime because of threats and violence against journalists carried out by drug traffickers.

slayings rise steadily

American killings in Mexico have risen steadily since 2007, when drug violence began to rage out of control in border cities including Nuevo Laredo and Tijuana and later spread to Ciudad Juarez, now ranked as one of the most dangerous cities in the world.
http://azstarnet.com/news/local/border/article_66e4b7af-a5a2-5c29-963a-f667e49859dd.html
Mexican officials also also refused to permit American law enforcement officials to enter the Mexican side of the lake in order to search for Michael Hartley’s body.

However, when 6 citizens of Mexico were allegedly assaulted in New York City- Mexican officials took to the streets of Staten Island, New York to patrol New York City streets to protect their citizens and were not blocked from doing so by the local government.

U.S. Spending At Least $18.6 Million Per Day to Incarcerate Illegal Aliens; More Than 195,000 Illegal Aliens Deported in Fiscal 2010 Had Committed Crimes Here The cost per day for these prisoners is based on Justice Department incarceration cost estimates from 2001 and on the lower-end figure of 300,000 incarcerated deportable aliens, which means the actual expense today could be substantially higher than $18.6 million per day.http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/least-186-million-spent-daily-house-inca

It will take someone “important” such as a politician or a member of the demonrat’s media getting killed until they pay attention.
The violence doesn’t affect them and their loyalty is to the party first and foremost. They leave the little people to fend for ourselves and then sue and harrass border states that are trying to get the feds to enforce the existing border. The National Geographic HD Channel has an excellent series about the US/Mexican border. They do an excellent job of showing what our U.S. Border Patrol Agents and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agents are up against.

How sad& tragic was this? Your thoughts & some of the story inside->?

Prep star hits game-winning shot for perfect season, falls and dies

Tragedy struck Western Michigan on Thursday night when Fennville (Mich.) High basketball star Wes Leonard hit a game-winning shot in a 57-55, overtime victory over Bridgman (Mich.) High, then collapsed on the court while celebrating the victory and was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly thereafter.

According to the Associated Press, Leonard, who you can see making the game-winning shot above, was celebrating his game-winning layup with the rest of his teammates when he collapsed to the ground. Paramedics tried CPR on the star at the site and in the ambulance, but he was pronounced dead upon reaching nearby Holland Hospital.

The star’s death was due to an enlarged heart, Ottawa County medical examiner David A. Smart told ABC News after concluding an autopsy on the player’s body on Friday.

"Obviously, in the midst of celebration, I think shocking is exactly the word," Fennville Superintendent Dirk Weeldreyer told The Holland Sentinel about Leonard’s collapse.

Making matters even more disorienting for Fennville fans were the events that transpired just before Leonard’s death. The junior — who was also the quarterback of the school’s football team last fall — not only hit the winning shot in the team’s final regular-season game, but by doing so he also ensured that the Blackhawks would finish with a perfect, 20-0 record.

"It’s tough to take in," Leonard’s teammate Shane Bale told The Sentinel. "It’s like somebody from your family, you know?"

Rest of this sad story is on this link.->

What a devastating tragedy.. it really makes you think. I knew a kid who loved the game and died while playing it. He was my age (16) and he finally got into the school that he had been dreaming to attend. His passion, talent, skills and love for the game got him a spot on the team. He wanted to lead his team to the championship, but he passed away during practice due to cardiac arrest. To honor him, his team set their goal to win the championship for him and they did!

Please help: I’m terrified of flying?

March 24th, 2011 5 comments

I know this might be kind of strange or pathetic to some people, but I’m scared to death of flying on airplanes. I have to at least three times a year for family trips, but I just get more and more scared every time. I know that it’s the safest form of transportation and everything, but I still can’t get over the idea of a crash and dying. Also, my mom has to go away on buisness a lot and evertime she’s gone I freak out and make her call me right before and right after and I check her flight online… that may sound really weird but I’m so frightened I’m going to lose someone to that. Do you guys have any ideas or tips that will make flying less scary for me? I’m going on a plane to hawaii for spring break in a month. I’m going on Hawaiian airlines and they have a perfect safety record… but I"m just so nervous. Any tips or advice to help me?

As crazy as it sounds, one thing to do is put yourself in that position. For example, if you’re afraid of a roller coaster, how do you break the fear? Avoiding it? No, repetition. Believe it or not, your mind can train itself to not be afraid. Mind over matter. If you want to have help with your repetition in breaking your fear, take some relaxing prescribed medication, listen to music, eat your favorite handy snack. And just relax. Take deep breaths. Look out the window every once in a while, and know that soon you will be at your destination having a good time. And eventually, flying will be like nature.

Koran Burning — Does Obama’s Helplessness Mean that Everybody is Helpless?

To Trader G.

Your characterization of my position clearly indicates that you did not read any part of it. If you had, you would know that my concern is force protection and for other Americans worldwide. Were you more circumspect and better informed, you would know that a lot of violence happened based on the Abu Gharaib photos, and the Gitmo Koran flushing. I know you will be there at Dover when the caskets come back from the extra Americans killed directly on account of the Terri Jones free speech occurance. You will explain to the families how Petraeus’ warning should properly have been ignored, and how the issuance of an injunction against Terri Jones would entail the complete and total cessation of all free speach by all Americans forever after. You will go on to explain that people always have a right to shout "Fire!" in a crowded theather when there is no fire. If somebody gets hurt — too bad. That’s the price we pay for an absolutist version of the First Amendment. Think!

The whole thing is blown out of proportion..
This man is only using his right to free speech, or do you want it like the E.U. ??
A hate speech crime to speak out against Islam. When that day happens you can get your burquas ready ladies or face being stoned.
